Exceptions are unintended or undesired events that occur during program execution and have a negative effect on the robustness of the program. In the java language, exceptions are divided into two types: checked exceptions and unchecked exceptions. A checked exception is required to be handled at compile time whereas an unchecked exception occurs at run time, so it is also called a runtime exception. Runtime exceptions can cause serious consequences like system crashes. Today's programs are still likely to contain a large number of runtime exceptions, such as null pointer exceptions and arithmetic exceptions in real-world bugs, indicating that the error-checking strategy is insufficient to clear the occurrence of runtime exceptions. In this paper, we propose a potential fault localization approach for java runtime exceptions. It mainly uses regular expressions to support the detection of code fragments containing such exceptions and checklists to help the developer examine whether the exception may occur to cause errors. © 2022 IEEE.

SSOXmatch: A java pipeline to compute cross-matches of Solar System bodies in astronomical observations

In this paper I will describe a new software package developed using the java programming language, aimed to compute the positions of any Solar System body (among asteroids, comets, planets, and satellites) to help to perform cross-matches of them in observations taken from earth- and space-based observatories. The space telescopes supported are Hubble, James Webb, Euclid, XMM-Newton, Spitzer, Herschel, Gaia, Kepler, Chandra, and TESS, although the flexibility of the software allows to support any other mission without the need to change a single line of code. The orbital elements can be selected among the asteroid database from the Lowell observatory (completed with the cometpro database of comets maintained by the LTE), and the JPL database of minor bodies. The software does not depend on external tools, and performs its own numerical integration of minor bodies. The dynamical model implemented for the Solar System includes the gravity effects of all major bodies, including the Earth, Moon, and Pluto as individual bodies, 16 perturbing asteroids as in other tools, the General Relativity effects, the oblateness of the Sun, Earth, and Moon, and the non-gravitational forces for both comets and asteroids. A complete set of web services allow to compute the cross-matches (that are later to be confirmed, for instance by visual inspection of the images) and also ephemerides of specific bodies. The code is highly optimized and follows the highest standards in terms of software quality and documentation. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

This study aims to design an idea lab or village idea lab as a digital platform An idea lab is defined as an infrastructure developed for gathering in, creating ideas, and brainstorming. The idea lab program adopts the concept of opportunities of learning which focuses on how in learning rather than what. Each group of participants must be able to carry out some activities, namely: defining problems, obtaining data and information, filtering data, expanding initial ideas, and finally applying these ideas (creativity and brainstorming techniques). This study used the User-Centered Design (UCD) method consisting of four stages, namely, (1) understand the context of use, (2) specify user requirements, (3) design solutions, and (4) evaluate. Before developing the platform, the researchers explore the concept of idea lab from empirical and theoretical perspectives. User experience evaluation using the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) and usability testing using the System Usability Scale (SUS). The SUS resulted in a final score of 64, which means in the acceptable category. EOQ test concluded that the user experience of the developed product is quite good. © 2022 IEEE.

work proposes a two-factor authentication method by integrating the second factor into the authentication service in system with a centralized user's database. This approach made it possible to achieve the universality of the process and reduce the authentication time. In this case, the compromise of the first factor becomes inexpedient. Simulation showed that the rest of the authentication parameters meet the requirements defined by international standards for two-factor authentication procedures. © 2022 IEEE.

The problem of testing multi-threaded programs by viewing the program as Hoare's CSP specification or Communicating State Machines is addressed. We describe an approach to transform java threads into equivalent Hoare's CSP specification and discuss its implementation. The CSP based abstract view of the java program aids developers create more effective tests addressing coverage of not only the underlying individual state models but also the interactions among concurrent or communicating state machines. Code coverage criteria of a multi-threaded program are defined in terms of intra-thread and inter-thread state transitions where the latter reflect implicit transitions from the notification node of one thread to the wait node of another interacting thread. The coverage criterion for a multi-threaded program for inter-thread communication is based on covering transition from each notify node to corresponding wait node. State transition coverage is used in general, however, coverage is more rigorous, when it comes to thread interactions and synchronized blocks, by approximating path coverage. Functional tests are designed for testing a case study namely producer and consumer problem and a corresponding table of edge or branch (or state transition or process transition) coverage is shown highlighting coverage achieved. © 2022 IEEE.

An Approach Based on Metadata to Implement Convention Over Configuration Decoupled From Framework Logic

Frameworks are essential for software development, providing code design and facilitating reuse for their users. Well-known java frameworks and APIs rely on metadata configuration through code annotations, using Reflection API to consume and process them. Code elements that share the same annotations often exhibit similarities, creating the opportunity to use conventions as a metadata source. This paper proposes a model for defining Convention over Configuration (CoC) for annotation usage, decoupled from the metadata reading logic. With this model, if a convention is present, the framework will automatically consider that element to be annotated. We implemented this model in the Esfinge Metadata API and evaluated it in an experiment where participants implemented the CoC pattern using two approaches: our proposed one and the java Reflection API. As a result, 75% of participants implemented our approach faster than with just the Reflection API, and we observed a higher failure rate with the Reflection API than with the Esfinge API. Moreover, the code produced with our approach also resulted in fewer lines of code. Based on these results, we confirmed that the proposed approach fulfilled its goal of supporting the definition of conventions decoupled from the framework logic, thereby improving code readability and maintainability. © 2025 The Author(s). java is still regarded as one of the most powerful programming languages available, because of its security and platform independence. It's hard to manage logs manually so to simplify and to make logging easy Apache released Apache log4j framework to manage logs generated by applications easily. This is imbued within the code so no extra hard work is required to access or deploy it. This paper is all about logg4j vulnerabilities visible in the log4j framework. © 2022 IEEE.

Novice programmers may not quickly understand a new or unfamiliar programming language. In order to help them understand the source code, existing studies have proposed approaches that translate a programming language into a pseudo-code. However, to the best of our knowledge, no studies have proposed translating java, one of the well-known object-oriented programming languages, to pseudo-code. Many novice programmers learn the java language because it is relatively less complicated than C++ and versatile in terms of practical use. Furthermore, the educational curriculum includes a java course frequently. In this paper, we propose an approach to translate java into pseudo-code at the code fragment level. We expect the proposed approach could help novice programmers to learn the java language with the translated pseudo-code. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors. Machine Learning, a subset of Artificial Intelligence, is now being integrated into image and speech classification, object and action recognition, medical image analysis, security and surveillance, and autonomous driving. It is usually executed by creating a neural network which is defined as the process of modeling a computer system to mimic the function of the human brain. However, learning to develop a neural network is a challenge for students, especially those who have little background in programming. This study focuses on developing a node-based programming tool called NodalNet, a beginner-friendly and interactive educational tool for creating a neural network designed for image classification applications. java programming language, java swing library, and Eclipse integrated development environment (IDE) are used to build the NodalNet. It can be used for offline deployment using laptops, and computers, and for online deployment using a technique called the application programming interface (API) method. NodalNet has built-in components that can be connected through nodes, and it has a data labeling feature that helps the users in classifying the raw data inputs used before the training process. The NodalNet can develop and train simple neural networks, some image recognition samples are FlowerNET, DogCatNET, and NumberNET which have significant results in their accuracy. A survey conducted shows that 77.78% of the respondents answered that it is easy to train using the NodalNet. This tool offers a positive impact as an interactive educational tool for developing a neural network. © 2022 IEEE.

With all the scripting languages on the rise, java is still a very popular choice for creating industrial enterprise applications. This paper discusses the complex implantation of the Full Stack java-Based Spring Cloud Application project.
