Natural language elements, e.g., todo comments, are frequently used to communicate among the developers and to describe tasks that need to be performed (actions) when specific conditions hold in the code repository (triggers). As projects evolve, development processes change, and development teams reorganize, these comments, because of their informal nature, frequently become irrelevant or forgotten. We present the first technique, dubbed TrigIt, to specify triggeraction todo comments as executable statements. Thus, actions are executed automaticallywhen triggers evaluate to true. TrigIt specifications are written in the host language (e.g., java) and are evaluated as part of the build process. The triggers are specified as query statements over abstract syntax trees and abstract representation of build configuration scripts, and the actions are specified as code transformation steps. We implemented TrigIt for the java programming language and migrated 20 existing trigger-action comments from 8 popular open-source projects. We evaluate the cost of using TrigIt in terms of the number of tokens in the executable comments and the time overhead introduced in the build process. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. In this study, we propose a fuzzy logic based self-driving car control system and its deployment into the javaScript Racer game. In the design of the self-driving system, it is aimed to design an intelligent vehicle control system such that the racing car finishes the race in the shortest time without getting out of the road. To accomplish such a goal, the proposed intelligent driving system takes up and merges the frameworks of control theory, fuzzy logic and computer vision. In this structure, computer vision is used for lane detection while the fuzzy logic control is employed for positioning and regulating the speed of the racing car. The paper presents in detail the structure and design of the intelligent driving system by presenting all of its design steps. The efficiency of the fuzzy logic based self-driving racing car control system is shown with results collected from the game environment.

Proof assistants such as Coq [1] can be used to develop very high assurance software such as a verified C compiler [2] and verified high performance computing programs [3]. Even when not used for a full system, using such a proof assistant to develop critical parts of a system could be interesting, for example security monitors [4] or the reconfiguration mechanism of a component based system.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is made up of billions [1] of connected devices worldwide, with different lifecycle profiles. This engineering project explores lifecycle management solutions through the study of two IoT open-source projects, analyzing a newly published communication protocol - the Lightweight Machine-to-Machine (LwM2M) - and a multiprotocol software update project named HawkBit. As a first step, a LwM2M IoT device archetype is created, so as to explore the protocol and its functionalities, in particular the firmware update. In a second step, a firmware upgrade campaign is simulated in order to analyze the behavior and limitations of both solutions.

Power quality influences the operating conditions of a power network, having important technical and economic implications over the power consumption and also on the security of the power network's operation environment. Therefore, the power grid operators are found in the position to search for the best tools capable to convert huge volume of heterogenous information into knowledge, briefly and easily understandable and available to a large category of execution personnel. The content of this paper gravitates on a web-based tool designed for a general evaluation and geographical visualization of the power quality level in the power distribution grids - MAPPQ (Mapping of the power quality).

Perl is one of the most important programming languages in many research areas. However, the most relevant Big Data frameworks, Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark and Apache Storm, do not support natively this language. To take advantage of these Big Data engines Perl programmers should port their applications to java or Scala, which requires a huge effort, or use utilities as Hadoop Streaming with the corresponding degradation in the performance. For this reason we introduce PERLDOOP2, a Big Data-oriented Perl-java source-to-source compiler. The compiler is able to generate java code from Perl applications for sequential execution, but also for running on clusters taking advantage of Hadoop, Spark and Storm engines. Perl programmers only need to tag the source code in order to use the compiler. Experimental results demonstrate the benefits of PERLDOOP2 in terms of ease of use, performance and scalability.

In this paper, we describe the deep object comparison (DOC) algorithm, which is used for comparison of general objects in java programming language based on their internal structures and values of primitive attributes. The DOC algorithm was designed to be utilized in our interface-based regression testing of software components, which enables to uncover subtle changes of the behavior of a component-based application under test with a newly installed version of a software component in comparison to its behavior with an old version of this component.

Private data is used on daily basis by a variety of applications where machine learning algorithms predict our shopping patterns and movie preferences among other things. Principal component analysis (PCA) is a widely used method to reduce the dimensionality of data. Reducing the data dimension is essential for data visualization, preventing overfitting and resisting reconstruction attacks. In this paper, we propose methods that would enable the PCA computation to be performed on horizontally-partitioned data among multiple data owners without requiring them to stay online for the execution of the protocol. To address this problem, we propose a new protocol for computing the total scatter matrix using additive homomorphic encryption, and performing the Eigen decomposition using Garbled circuits. Our hybrid protocol does not reveal any of the data owner's input;thus protecting their privacy. We implemented our protocols using java and Obliv-C, and conducted experiments using public datasets. We show that our protocols are efficient, and preserve the privacy while maintaining the accuracy.

Semantic code clones are regions of duplicated code that may appear dissimilar but compute similar functions. Since in general it is algorithmically undecidable whether two or more programs compute the same function, locating all semantic code clones is infeasible. One way to dodge the undecidability issue and find potential semantic clones, using only static information, is to search for recurring subgraphs of a program dependence graph (PDG). PDGs represent control and data dependence relationships between statements or operations in a program. PDG-based clone detection techniques, unlike syntactically-based techniques, do not distinguish between code fragments that differ only because of dependence-preserving statement re-orderings, which also preserve semantics. Consequently, they detect clones that are difficult to find by other means. Despite this very desirable property, work on PDG-based clone detection has largely stalled, apparently because of concerns about the scal-ability of the approach. We argue, however, that the time has come to reconsider PDG-based clone detection, as a part of a holistic strategy for clone management. We present evidence that its scalability problems are not as severe as previously thought. This suggests the possibility of developing integrated clone management systems that fuse information from multiple clone detection methods, including PDG-based ones.

Automatically pinpointing those classes in an object-oriented program that implement interesting domain concepts would be valuable for industrial software maintainers. We encode two observations of programmer behavior in Reoom, a novel light-weight static analysis. In a comparison with its most closely related competitor, Womble, on third-party open source applications, Reoom scaled to larger applications and achieved better overall precision and recall.
