Modernization of monolithic "legacy" mainframe COBOL applications to enable them for modern service- and cloud-centric environments is one of the ongoing challenges in the context of digital transformation for many organizations. This challenge has been addressed for many years by different approaches. However, the possibility of using a pure Open Source Software (OSS)-based approach to run existing transactional COBOL code as part of java ee-based web applications has just recently been demonstrated by the author. Therefore, in this paper, an overview of the previously proposed Quick Web-Based Interactive COBOL Service (QWICS) is given and its new extension to run message-processing COBOL applications via JMS is described. QWICS runs on Un*x-like operating systems such as Linux, and therefore on most platforms, but in particular on the mainframe itself. This enables a mainframe-to-mainframe re-hosting, preserving the unique features of the mainframe platform like superior availability and security.

We present a new approach to protect java ee web applications against injection attacks, which can handle large commercial systems. We first describe a novel approach to taint analysis for java ee, which can be characterized by "strings only", "taint ranges", and "no bytecode instrumentation". We then explain how to combine this method with static analysis, based on the JOANA IFC framework. The resulting hybrid analysis will boost scalability and precision, while guaranteeing protection against XSS. The approach has been implemented in the Futurna tool;application examples and measurements are discussed.

In recent years, with the rapid development of bridge construction in China, the Bridge Health Monitoring (BHM) System has been extensively studied and widely used. The BHM System can provide foundation and guidance for maintenance and management of bridges. Most existed BHM Systems features remarkably in good hardware with poor software, or good measurement with bad computation. That means, the hardware system of present BHM System is well designed but the software system is not. Due to lack of support of the scientific computing, the existed BHM software can only perform the functions of data management, data display and simple data process, but can't satisfy the requirements of deeper data analysis and interpretation, which has become the bottleneck restricting the development of BHM System. Meanwhile, the technological gap between scientific computing researchers in the field of BHM research and software engineers has also become the throat of this bottleneck problem. This paper mainly focuses on the research of software technology of the BHM System. A component based software implementation technology is developed with the MATLAB environment. The general frameworks of the BHM System are constructed and an overall java class library is built to realize this framework, in which, each java class comes from the component mentioned above. Combined with java ee standard platform specification, a web driven scientific computing software solution for BHM System are presented. As an example, an integrated early-warning component of BHM System of cable-stayed bridge are realized and docked into above software architecture, which is developed by mapping grouped cable forces of cable-stayed bridge into some well designed indices. This study is expected to build an intelligent computing web platform of BHM based on java ee and Scientific Computing library in MATLAB language.

By combining java ee with MATLAB featured products together, new software architecture for bridge health monitoring system (BHM) is proposed, which aims to implement the real-time analysis of data collected by the BHM on the internet and solve the related engineering structure health status evaluation and disease diagnosis problems at the same time. Servlet based web applications or software components are developed and deployed in the web server tier, which composed the interface to response to the user's various scientific computing requests and display the retrieved results. MATLAB Component Runtime (MCR) acts as a core application server, with responsibility for the scientific computing engine. By using MATLAB Builder JA, all scientific algorithms can be develop in MATLAB M-functions and built to a stand-alone java class or methods of a certain java class. These java classes are docked into well organized java class collections which cover all need of data analysis and structural diagnosis computing tasks. Practice indicates, by using of this proposed bridge health monitoring system software architecture, both the powerful MATLAB scientific computing ability and the superiority of the network platform based on java ee are implemented and cooperated in same system, the scientific computing engine are seamless combined into B/S software platform. The more attractive merit is that the proposed techniques build a gapless cooperative environment for civil engineers, network system engineers, and web page designers.

While cloud- and web-based Integrated Development Environments (IDE) are used in practice and education for some time, these are mainly intended for classical web development. Support for enterprise platforms such as java Enterprise Edition (ee) is typically lacking. However, in higher education, web-based cloud IDE are particularly useful in software development courses for non-computer science major students, since they could help to overcome the participants' limited IT skills. Thus, a respective easy-to-use web IDE is required. Therefore, in this paper a software platform for a web-based cloud IDE for educational purposes is proposed and evaluated, which in particular supports java ee and is suitable for non-computer science majors. The platform was evaluated in a classroom experiment. The results indicate that it is useful and beneficial for the students, allowing the lecturer and the students to focus more on the actual learning objectives.

In this paper, a visualization management systems are designed based on RFID technology and java ee web technology. This system includes hardware design and software design. the parts of hardware design could get the position of the tracking equipment with the RFID automatic identification technology which is used to achieve real-time collection of data so as to realize real-time, tracking and monitoring. The software platform is designed based on java ee technologies which are used to establish three-layer architecture based on B/S. The paper focus on the research of transport protocol between the RFID Reader and RFID tags, and SSH framework platform in web technologies. This paper describes one solution for execution of javaScript code inside java Enterprise Edition (java ee) application servers. Since java Virtual Machine (java VM) is able to execute javaScript code, it is possible to integrate javaScript into java ee. Instead of implementing javaScript code in *** server, we have decided to integrate javaScript inside java ee environment. This way, it is possible to call other java ee modules within javaScript code, since it is now a part of the enterprise system. To achieve that goal, we have designed an architecture which introduces a Middleware as a link between Enterprise system and javaScript code. We have also measured performance of three usual platforms for javaScript execution and concluded that javaScript inside java VM is not significantly slower than the *** system.

The International Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA) has produced many standards and recommendations whose aim is to generate an architecture that starts from astrophysical resources, in a general sense, and ends up in deployed consumable services (that are themselves astrophysical resources). Focusing on the Data Access Layer (DAL) system architecture, that these standards define, in the last years a web based application has been developed and maintained at INAF-OATs IA2 (Italian National institute for Astrophysics - Astronomical Observatory of Trieste, Italian center of Astronomical Archives) to try to deploy and manage multiple VO (Virtual Observatory) services in a uniform way: VO-Dance. However a set of criticalities have arisen since when the VO-Dance idea has been produced, plus some major changes underwent and are undergoing at the IVOA DAL layer (and related standards): this urged IA2 to identify a new solution for its own service layer. Keeping on the basic ideas from VO-Dance (simple service configuration, service instantiation at call time and modularity) while switching to different software technologies (e.g. dismissing java Reflection in favour of Enterprise java Bean, EJB, based solution), the new solution has been sketched out and tested for feasibility. Here we present the results originating form this test study. The main constraints for this new project come from various fields. A better homogenized solution rising from IVOA DAL standards: for example the new DALI (Data Access Layer Interface) specification that acts as a common interface system for previous and oncoming access protocols. The need for a modular system where each component is based upon a single VO specification allowing services to rely on common capabilities instead of homogenizing them inside service components directly. The search for a scalable system that takes advantage from distributed systems. The constraints find answer in the adopted solutions hereafter sketched. The
