Medical services in current-time rely heavily on digital imaging technology due to image modalities utilized in medical field such as the computer tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. These techniques require image-processing tools and digital management that has been the primary reason for development of Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS). The limitation to PACS is that the system architecture limits itself to be only used in the local area network, which at times causes inconvenience towards physicians requiring the system in the outside *** the rapid advances in the network speed, computer processing capabilities, and the support for online software development, the potential to bridge the gap between the hospital and outside environment to share and work in conjunction may be *** this paper, we present an application of database and functional imaging that runs through the Internet network (WWW) and Internet browser that has similar ability to the PACS yet having the advantages of being an online system.

Formulae display:?Mathematical formulae have been encoded as MathML and are displayed in this HTML version using MathJax in order to improve their display. Uncheck the box to turn MathJax off. This feature requires javascript. Click on a formula to *** describe a java applet that allows users to see and learn the fitting of regression models in a manner that is both visual and interactive, as well as consonant for linear and nonlinear models. In addition, this program familiarizes users with the fact that many different parameterizations exist for a single function, and it provides insight about the relationship between these models. Called Visual Fit, this program draws scatterplots of data and allows users to fit various nonlinear models to the data. The program can also provide least squares estimates or true population parameters for comparison with the estimates made by the user. We discuss what types of parameters can be represented in a visually obvious way and which cannot. Visual Fit may be useful for both introductory statistics classes and higher-level courses. WWW-based coursewares will benefit from libraries of subject-specific software objects that are embeddable in HTML documents. Development of libraries of java applet programs in various subject areas is timely and important. The developed applet library should enable educators to include these applet programs in their HTML-based multimedia courseware. This paper discusses the development and utilization of java applet programs in the area of solid state materials and devices. The applet programs developed so far, with the purpose of providing a dynamic visual simulation of solid-state material concepts and device principles, are included in the courseware section.

The World Wide Web has emerged as an effective mechanism for distributing educational material to students beyond the bounds of the classroom. The introduction of mobile code, such as java applets, combined with the pervasiveness of the World Wide Web, present the potential to significantly enhance the development and distribution of educational software. This paper illustrates the design and implementation of a java applet for use in educational propulsion engineering curricula. The java Gas Turbine Simulator applet provides an interactive graphical environment which allows the rapid, efficient construction and analysis of arbitrary gas turbine systems. The simulation system couples a graphical user-interface and a transient, space-averaged, aero-thermodynamic gas turbine analysis method, both entirely coded in the java language. The combined package provides analytical, graphical and data management tools which allow the student to construct and control dynamic gas turbine simulations by manipulating graphical objects on the computer display screen. The simulator, running as a java applet, can be easily accessed from the World Wide Web and run from a variety of heterogeneous computer platforms, including PCs, Macintosh, and UNIX machines, through the use of java-enabled Web browsers. A web interface was developed for scientists, teachers and students to access plant, weather and soil databases used for plant growth simulation studies. The interface is coded as a java applet with a graphical user interface (GUI) whereas the databases are managed by Microsoft Access. The java applet obtains input data from the databases, and then directly runs a plant growth simulator programmed in java. With a java (JDK1.1)-embedded web browser running under Windows 95/98/NT, UNIX, or other operating system, users can link to the run-time java applet from our website. For plant growth simulation studies, users can choose a target plant species and different weather and soil conditions from menu choices built into the GUI, and then input agronomic data such as planting date, row spacing, etc. into the relevant text fields. The output is displayed in both graphical and text forms by clicking appropriately marked buttons for such state variables as phenological events, leaf area index (LAI), plant height, biomass, shoot/root ratio, photosynthesis, evapotranspiration, etc. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
