e-Learning engineering courses with online experiments are attracting a great deal of attention because of the flexibility they provide in both teaching and learning. This paper has described an Internet-based teaching and experiment system for control engineering (ITESCE) that provides students with online course material, a simulator, an online control experiment using an arm robot, and the ability to store and search simulation and experimental results. To implement the functions required by the course and to facilitate connection to the Internet, the ITESCE is based on a standard browser/server architecture with three layers and employs multithreading, java applets, and java database connectivity. Background control subsystems handle the real-time control of experiments, and a network server handles communication with clients and with background control subsystems. A database stores simulation and experimental results. The course covers a variety of control methods, and students can try them out through online simulations and experiments. To enhance realism, a Web camera takes a video of an experiment and streams it to a student's PC in real time.

Finite element simulations produce information that is proportional to the size of the numerical model. For large models, the data produced is voluminous and can therefore be challenging to deal with and interpret. This paper discusses the use of virtual reality to manage this information and presents FEMvrml, an interactive virtual environment within which users can interact with and explore the simulation results. The structure and methodology behind FEMvrml and the algorithms employed are described along with application examples that show the effectiveness and capabilities of the system. Web-based interactive learning is an important educational trend. In this paper, we implemented web-based virtual education courseware for the C programming language. It consists of two major components: a creative lecture component for students and an evaluation component for lecturers. The lecture component contains HTML-based lecture notes with creative multimedia content, such as flash movies and video clips, and an effective web-based compiler which compiles C programs at the server. These are submitted by students through the Web and the program returns their execution results to the students' PCs. There is also a submission component of a student's reports and an online examination. The administration and management system for attendance checking, report assignment, online examination and scoring, etc is implemented using web technologies such as HTML, java, java script, PHP and MySQL database. This system enables students to easily understand the content and programming techniques of the C programming language. It enables lecturers to achieve higher productivity, saving them time and labor.

In this paper, we combine the mature technology of Web with the embedded and fully utilize the advantages of both. Applied the embedded Web technology in the field of equipment condition monitoring, the equipment remote monitoring system is designed based on embedded Web. Firstly, the function and structure of the system are designed Based on ARM9 technology, the hardware part of system is designed by using of Samsung's S3C2410, ADC0809 and DM9000 chips. Secondly, based on the commonly Web design technology, the embedded Web server is designed by integrating embedded CGI (common gateway interface), ActiveX and java applet technology. Finally, the problem of communication security is considered. The System can complete the remote access, monitoring and maintenance operations of equipment through the network and Web browser. Practical operations show that the system can decrease system running cost and improve maintaining efficiency. It has wide application prospect and great popularization value.

We describe BugView, a cross-platform application for presenting and comparing the genomes of bacteria or eukaryotes. We give particular emphasis to its use in comparing the genes of related bacterial genomes, and consider different methods of automating the preparation of genome comparison files, including a new web-based facility.
