Automation has been used to assess student programming tasks for over 60 years. As well as assessing work, it can also be used in the provision of feedback, commonly though the utilisation of unit tests or evaluation of program output. This typically requires a structure to be provided, for example provision of a method stub or programming to an interface. This scaffolded approach is required in statically typed, object-oriented languages such as java, as if tests rely on non-existent code, compilation will fail. Previous studies identified that for many tools, feedback is limited to a comparison of the student's solution with a reference, the results of unit tests, or how actual output compares with that which is expected. This paper discusses a tool that provides automated textual feedback on programming tasks. This tool, the "java Object-Oriented Feedback Tool" (JOOFT), allows the instructor to write unit tests for as yet unwritten code, with their own feedback, almost as easily as writing a standard unit test. JOOFT also provides additional, customisable, feedback for student errors that might occur in the process of writing code, such as specifying an incorrect parameter type for a method. A randomised trial of the tool was carried out with novice student programmers (n =109), who completed a lab task on the design of a class, 52 of them having assistance from the tool. Whilst students provided positive feedback on tool usage, performance in a later assessment of class creation, suggests student outcomes are not affected.

We present a web-based collaborated diagnosis system developed using java programming language. The system allows more than two physicians to look at the same images, to discuss through a chat box, and to make diagnosis collaboratively. The system provides tools such as window and value setting that physicians generally need. Beside the tools, we are implementing different tools for the system such as a volume rendering algorithm and an animation playback method. To make the system easily accessed, all the physician need is a web browser.

This paper describes a case study of a second-semester introductory programming course for information systems (IS) students that combined desktop and mobile application development and consumption of existing web services. Our aim was to provide students with a holistic view of how different types of applications can be developed and combined to solve realworld problems, as the students learned the basics of programming. Students progressively built a desktop java application with a graphical user interface for a local public transit system. It combined the use of basic algorithms, existing web services for geo-coding and mapping to illustrate a recommended route on the system. Students then ported this application to the Android platform re-using most of the code they had already developed. Along with fulfilling the traditional objectives of an introductory course, this course also demonstrated the possible interplay of stand-alone components and web services in desktop and mobile applications and kept the students motivated and engaged throughout the semester.

In modern technological industrial era, the typical manufacturing plant consists of a large number of diversified activities interconnected as a unit with required communication facilities. The manufacturing plant layout area consists of various activity cells such as design office, manufacturing shops, assembly and inspection departments, administration and security locations etc., The fundamental goal of facility layout problem is to minimize the material flow costs by positioning the cells within stipulated area. The orientation and spatial coordinates of each cell is specified by FLP design and the orientation of each cell may be in horizontal or vertical position. In this paper, the manufacturing plant layouthas been designed by using Computerized Relative Allocation of Facilities Technique ( CRAFT). java programme has been developed to design the optimum plant layout by considering STEP file as input for developing an optimum plant layout. This paper describes JES, a java Execution Simulator that allows users to explore how a java program executes. This interactive simulator displays a representation of a java program and animates the running of the program. Instructors can use JES to demonstrate how data is moved when variables are assigned, when parameters are passed, and when values are returned by a method. JES is useful for comparing how primitive and object values are manipulated. The simulator also demonstrates scope rules, object creation, inheritance and polymorphism. While the simulator only supports variables of type double and object and does not support conditionals or looping, it allows users to write general java pro-rams that might be used as examples in the first weeks of a CS I course. JES also has support for arrays of doubles and objects. The simulator is written in java and can be run as an application or an applet. Support for the simulator includes a simple mechanism for quickly running the simulator on a program developed with a standard java development system.

The application of computer skills and technologies in modern business is essential in modern society, therefore different methods and algorithms are used for the business optimization. This paper primarily focuses on solving the transportation problem of the linear programming for the purpose of the transport optimization, which ultimately leads to the competitive advantage for any institution which performs any type of transport as a part of its business. Generative AI has considerably altered traditional workplace practice across numerous industries. Ever since the emergence of large language models (LLMs), their potential to generate formative feedback for introductory programming courses has been extensively researched. However, most of these studies have focused on Python. In this work, we examine the bug-fixing and feedback-generation abilities of Code Llama and ChatGPT for java programming assignments using our new java benchmark called CodeWBugs. The results indicate that ChatGPT performs reasonably well, and was able to fix 94.33% programs. By comparison, we observed high variability in the results from Code Llama. We further analyzed the impact of different types of prompts and observed that prompts that included task descriptions and test inputs yielded better results. In most cases, the LLMs precisely localized the bugs and also offered guidance on how to proceed. Nevertheless, we also noticed incorrect responses generated by the LLMs, emphasizing the need to validate responses before disseminating feedback to learners.

Transaction Operational Feasibility (TOF) analysis is important in electricity markets to ensure reliable and secure operation of power systems. This paper presents a web-based design and implementation of TOF analysis, based on three-tier client/server architecture and up to date web technologies, so that the TOF analysis can be easily and effectively accessed by all market participants for competitive decision making. The proposed TOF analysis is based on approximate ATC computations for efficient real-time market operation. A 3-area system example is given for illustration purposes.

It has become imperative for undergraduate students to learn the java programming language. Educational institutions need to train their students so that they retain the knowledge of solving problems using this and not to just learn the language syntax and write code, without much understanding. To enhance the learning capacities and teaching methodologies, a learning object model was proposed which couples the static and dynamic approaches. A repository of such learning objects would be created and be accessible to the teaching staff. These objects are reusable and allow the learner as well as the teacher to modify and convert it into a new learning object. The model comprises of static pages created based on sound pedagogical principles and links to a virtual environment, where any code could be executed in a dynamic way, without much hassles, thereby giving the learner a complete feel of learning the concepts and application.
