In-situ coal quality variability analysis by combining Gaussian co-simulation and a javascript

This study covers an in-situ analysis of simulated coal quality attribute variations of a power plant in Tufanbeyli/Adana, Turkey. Three main coal quality variables including calorific value, sulfur and ash content were simulated by Sequential Gaussian co-simulation method. The results were validated by a number of tests. A this-study-specific javascript is written to reveal the variations of coal qualities in a specific extraction route and capacity for both short and long-term production planning and scheduling. Results declared that the javascript successfully reflected the simulated variations in the candidate route and very adaptable to similar studies easily.

We introduce traits. is, a small, portable trait composition library for javascript. Traits are a more robust alternative to multiple inheritance and enable object composition and reuse. traits, is is motivated by two goals: first, it is an experiment in using and extending javascript's recently added meta-level object description format. By reusing this standard description format, traits. j s can be made more interoperable with similar libraries, and even with built-in primitives. Second, traits. is makes it convenient to create "high-integrity" objects whose integrity cannot be violated by clients, an important property when web content is composed from mutually suspicious scripts. We describe the design of traits. j s and provide an operational semantics for TRAITS-JS, a minimal calculus that models the core functionality of the library. (C) 2012 Elsevier *** rights reserved.

If-transpiler: Inlining of hybrid flow-sensitive security monitor for javascript

A key characteristic of modem web applications is their heavy reliance on client-side javascript libraries. They use the libraries to achieve interactivity, reactivity, and service composition. Instead of writing their own, modem web applications developers, typically, use several third party javascript libraries to achieve such level of engagement. This poses a security risk of leaking private information to illegal channels. Tracking information flow is one known technique to address such concern. This paper presents a framework that inlines a hybrid flow sensitive security monitor for javascript. To our knowledge, our framework is the first in the literature to propose a hybrid flow-sensitive approach that targets javascript. Our approach operates as a source-to-source compiler (a transpiler), in which, the input is javascript source and the output is an instrumented version with the flow-sensitive security monitor inlined. Hence the output of our approach is portable javascript code that is not tied to a particular javascript engine. We start by presenting the hybrid flow-sensitive security monitor and its noninterference security property. Then we present the formalization of our inlining transpiler with respect to the hybrid monitor. We prove that the inlined version of the security monitor is observationally equivalent to the original version. Finally, we present and discuss the implementation of the inlining transpiler and assess empirically its security effectiveness and its efficiency with respect to un-instrumented code and to other implementations in the literature. Learning How to Listen: Automatically Finding Bug Patterns in Event-Driven javascript APIs

Event-driven programming is widely practiced in the javascript community, both on the client side to handle UI events and AJAX requests, and on the server side to accommodate long-running operations such as file or network I/O. Many popular event-based APIs allow event names to be specified as free-form strings without any validation, potentially leading to lost events for which no listener has been registered and dead listeners for events that are never emitted. In previous work, Madsen et al. presented a precise static analysis for detecting such problems, but their analysis does not scale because it may require a number of contexts that is exponential in the size of the program. Concentrating on the problem of detecting dead listeners, we present an approach to learn how to use event-based APIs by first mining a large corpus of javascript code using a simple static analysis to identify code snippets that register an event listener, and then applying statistical modeling to identify anomalous patterns, which often indicate incorrect API usage. In a large-scale evaluation on 127,531 open-source javascript code bases, our technique was able to detect 75 anomalous listener-registration patterns, while maintaining a precision of 90.9% and recall of 7.5% over a validation set, demonstrating that a learning-based approach to detecting event-handling bug patterns is feasible. In an additional experiment, we investigated instances of these patterns in 25 open-source projects, and reported 30 issues to the project maintainers, of which 7 have been confirmed as bugs.

ThingsMigrate: Platform-independent migration of stateful javascript Internet of Things applications

The Internet of Things (IoT) has gained wide popularity both in academic and industrial contexts. Unlike traditional embedded devices with specialized firmwares, modern IoT devices accommodate general-purpose operating systems, allowing developers to run more sophisticated applications written in high-level languages like javascript. Because IoT devices are subject to resource constraints like available battery power, we need to dynamically migrate a running process between different devices to prevent losing state. However, it is challenging to apply migration techniques using memory snapshots across the heterogeneous pool of IoT devices. We present ThingsMigrate, a middleware providing platform-independent migration of javascript processes across IoT devices. Prior to execution, ThingsMigrate instruments the source code of a given program to expose its internal state. During run-time, the transformed program produces on demand a JSON snapshot of its current state, from which new code is generated to resume execution. Thus, ThingsMigrate enables process migration entirely in the application space without any modifications to the underlying virtual machine (VM), providing VM-independence. We present three versions of ThingsMigrate, each building on the previous to optimize for run-time latency and memory consumption. We report on the experience of building each successive version and discuss the insights gained and the learning outcomes. We evaluated ThingsMigrate against standard benchmarks, over two IoT platforms and a cloud-like environment. We show that it can migrate even highly CPU-intensive applications, with average run-time latency overhead of 33% and memory overhead of 78%. ThingsMigrate supports multiple subsequent migrations without introducing additional overhead over each subsequent migration.

Multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) is an effective technique for evaluating and selecting alternative(s) based on a set of criteria/sub-criteria. Most MCDM techniques use cardinal data as input data. However, in realworld situations, decision-makers face difficulties, while providingexact values for comparing alternatives/ criteria. While "Ordinal Data" is more tangible and straightforward to use by human. Considering human ability in ordinal thinking and expressing preferences, the Ordinal Priority Approach (OPA) was proposed in 2020 to solve the MCDM problems with the ordinal data as input. In the current study, a novel web-based software is developed using javascript to streamline and facilitate solving the OPA model. It (i) supports individual and group decision-making, (ii) calculates the weights of the experts, alternatives, and criteria, and (iii) determines confidence level value and uncertainty in the group decision-making problems to check the quality of the input and result. Promisingly, this software is user-friendly for users, time-efficient, accurate for solving MCDM problems, and practical with significant impacts on the academic and industrial worlds.

Self-Driving Car Navigation With Single-Beam LiDAR and Neural Networks Using javascript

This paper presents the development of a system for simulating and visualizing autonomous vehicle navigation using a single-beam LiDAR sensor integrated with an artificial neural network, implemented entirely in javascript. The single-beam LiDAR sensor in the simulation was configured to closely resemble real-world counterparts, such as the YDLIDAR TG30. The proposed neural network architecture, consisting of four output neurons, processes data from ten distinct angular measurements of the LiDAR sensor to predict necessary steering and speed adjustments for autonomous navigation. Furthermore, we introduce an enhanced collision detection algorithm that improves upon traditional methods by providing more precise identification of line segment intersections. Implementing the entire system in javascript demonstrates the viability of utilizing web technologies for complex machine learning tasks, representing a significant advancement in autonomous vehicle research. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of this approach across various scenarios, emphasizing its potential for broader applications in cost-sensitive autonomous systems. This work may also serve as a valuable resource for researchers new to machine learning, contributing to greater accessibility in the development of autonomous vehicles.

Next-generation antivirus for javascript malware detection based on dynamic features

There are many kinds of Exploit Kits, each one being built with several vulnerabilities, but almost all of them are written in javascript. So, we created an antivirus, endowed with machine learning, expert in detecting javascript malware based on Runtime Behaviors. In our methodology, javascript is executed, in a controlled environment. The goal was to investigate suspicious file behavior. Our antivirus, as a whole, dynamically monitors and ponders 7690 suspicious behaviors that the javascript file can do in Windows 7. As experiments, the authorial antivirus is compared to antiviruses based on deep as based on shallow networks. Our antivirus achieves an average accuracy of 99.75% in the distinction between benign and malware, accompanied by a training time of 8.92 s. Establishing the relationship between accuracy and training time is essential in information security. Eight (8) new malware are released every second. An antivirus with excessive training time can become obsolete even when released. As our proposed model can overcome the limitations of state-of-the-art, our antivirus combines high accuracy and fast training. In addition, the authorial antivirus is able to detect javascript malware, endowed with digital antiforense, such as obfuscates, polymorphic and fileless attacks.

Distance learning on the Web supported by javascript: A critical appraisal with examples from clay mineralogy and knowledge-based tests

The hypertext mark-up language (HTML) is used to create hypertext documents in use on the World-Wide Web (WWW), built up as a client/server model. In this paper we discuss the enhancement of HTML documents with javascript, a script language understood by most common browsers. JavaScripl is considered an easy means for bringing interactivity and answer checking to educational Web pages. It is faster to learn compared to using a programming language like PERL and has the advantage of high portability between different operating systems. Because all actions are performed on the client side, it reduces net traffic and pages can be used off-line. Educational usage, including tests and operations in future distance learning are outlined. Examples of javascript supported documents are given using clay mineralogy and knowledge-based tests as examples. A critical review of this relatively new technology reveals some compatibility problems but these seem to be offset by the possibility to make Web pages more attractive.
