This paper presents the importance of Massive-MIMO systems and the ldpc coding technique used to improve their performance. We will focus on ldpc coding used in the implementation of a Massive-MIMO system and the simulation results using Matlab. A comparison between the classical systems and the ldpc coded system will be made, in order to stress the improvements in particular cases. Starting with simple MIMO systems, the number of antennas at the receiver will be increased and the result will be discussed.

This paper presents method to reduce Mean Squared Error (MSE) produced by additive Gaussian noise and impulse noise, using Oversampled Filter Banks (OFB) and Low-Density Parity-Check (ldpc) coding. Two methods are used for the OFB design: Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) modulation and the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) modulation. The same lowpass prototype Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter is used in both approaches. The polyphase decomposition of the analysis and synthesis filters bank is performed to obtain more efficient structure. The input signal, in the transmitter, is splitted into subbands using the analysis filter bank and coded with ldpc coding. On the receiver side, the inverse process is performed. The proposed method is compared with the similar approaches from literature, using Matlab simulations.

We investigate the ability of the physical layer approaches of constellation shaping and forward error correction to enhance the performance of full duplex (FD) wireless radio systems. We use low density parity check and optimized shaping codes to transmit non-equiprobable constellation points from an amplitude phase shift keying modulation with imperfect power amplifier and in the presence of FD residual self interference. A simple approach to the design of optimized shaping codes for a given signal to noise ratio and residual self interference power is presented. Simulation results show that a FD transceiver with bit interleaved coded modulation, optimized shaping and iterative demodulation and decoding noticeably improves the performance in comparison to the same system without constellation shaping.

In optical transmission systems, security against eavesdroppers is of increasing importance. Following the concept of physical-layer security, we experimentally quantify the security gap that can be achieved when applying punctured low-density parity-check (ldpc) codes for various modulation schemes and bit rates in a state-of-the art laboratory coherent optical communication system. We examine operating points at gross bit-rates up to 768 Gb/s using up to 64.0-GBd dual-polarization (DP) 64-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) in combination with bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM). We find that security gaps ranging from 5.6 dB for a net secure data rate of 76.2 Gb/s (32-GBd DP-QAM04) up to 10.7 dB for 457 Gb/s (64-GBd DP-QAM64) are required for the legitimate receiver over the eavesdropper. For the low-cardinality DP-QAM04 format the required security gap is mainly equal to the theoretically achievable minimum security gap. However, with increasing cardinality of the modulation format, the practical implementation penalty accounts for a significant portion of the security gap of up to an additional 3.7 dB at 64-GBd DP-QAM64.

ldpc-coded OAM shift-keying FSO communication system with dual-pattern CNN demodulator

An ldpc-coded orbital angular momentum shift-keying (OAM-SK) free space optical (FSO) communication system with a dual-pattern convolutional neural network (CNN) demodulator is put forward to resist the adverse effect of atmospheric turbulence (AT). Diverging from the standard single-pattern CNN demodulator, the proposed method inputs a dual OAM light pattern into the demodulator. The first pattern stems from the Laguerre-Gaussian OAM-SK light focused by a convex lens, while the second is acquired post-cylindrical lens modulation. The dual-pattern CNN demodulator can extract richer features from the incoming light, enhancing the recognition accuracy for OAM-SK modes. This advancement notably enables the recognition of OAM-SK modes with opposite orbital quantum numbers, a challenging task for standard single-pattern CNN demodulators. We have refined communication reliability by integrating ldpc coding with OAM-SK, and ldpc decoding has also been explicitly designed for OAM-SK channels. Simulations validate our proposed method, achieving a recognition accuracy 0.869 under strong AT (Cn = 5 x 10 -14 m -2 / 3 ). We use the image transmission as a benchmark;the dual-pattern CNN demodulator enhances the ldpc-coded OAM-SK FSO link, achieving a 30 dB boost in the image's PSNR compared to the traditional CNN demodulation. The bit error rate (BER) drops to 3.8e-5, achieving significant advancement in comparison to the single-pattern CNN demodulators.

Parallel combinatory multicarrier modulation in underwater acoustic communications

Parallel combinatory multicarrier (PCMC) modulation is a generalisation of the legacy multicarrier frequency shift keying (FSK) scheme, where for each group of M subcarriers, more than one (say L) subcarriers are chosen for simultaneous transmission. The PCMC scheme provides an effective way to increase the spectral efficiency while maintaining non-coherent detection at the receiver. This study provides an in-depth study of the PCMC scheme with emphasis on how to couple with binary or non-binary channel coding. One favourable system configuration is identified, having parameters (L,M)=(4,8), which increases the spectral efficiency by 50% relative to the most efficient FSK scheme from the FSK family. Coupled with non-binary low-density parity-check (ldpc) coding over the Galois field GF(64), the PCMC scheme with (L,M)=(4,8) is shown to have robust performance in multipath fading channels.

Multidimensional Optical Transport Based on Optimized Vector-Quantization-Inspired Signal Constellation Design

An optimized vector-quantization-inspired signal constellation design (OVQ-SCD) suitable for multidimensional optical transport is proposed, in which signal constellation radii transformation function is optimized and near-uniform distribution of points is achieved. The proposed OVQ-SCD is used in a tandem with a hybrid multidimensional coded-modulation scheme employing Slepian sequences as electrical discrete-time basis functions, orthogonal prolate spheroidal wave functions as impulse responses of optical filters in orthogonal-division multiplexing, and spatial modes as optical continuous-time basis functions. It has been shown that the proposed multidimensional coded-modulation schemes based on OVQ-SCDs outperform corresponding counterparts and can be used to enable beyond 10 Pb/s serial optical transport over spatial division multiplexing (SDM) fibers as well as beyond 1 Pb/s transport over SMFs. The proposed OVQ-SCD-based hybrid multidimensional coded modulation scheme can simultaneously solve the problems related to the limited bandwidth of information-infrastructure, high energy consumption, and heterogeneity of network segments;while enabling elastic and dynamic bandwidth allocation.

On the Irregular Nonbinary QC-ldpc-Coded Hybrid Multidimensional OSCD-Modulation Enabling Beyond 100 Tb/s Optical Transport

As a solution to limited bandwidth and high energy consumption of information infrastructure as well as heterogeneity of optical networks, a hybrid multidimensional coded modulation scheme is proposed employing all available electrical and optical degrees of freedom. Electrical basis functions are based on either modified orthogonal polynomials or prolate spheroidal wave functions, while optical ones on polarization and spatial mode states. The proposed scheme is both multi-Tb/s and beyond 100 Tb/s enabling technology. Additionally, the proposed scheme provides the adaptive, software-defined, and dynamic allocation of bandwidth with fine granularity. The adaptive coding is based on irregular nonbinary quasi-cyclic ldpc codes, providing record net coding gains.

Successive refinement for the Wyner-Ziv problem and layered code design

We examine successive refinement for the Wyner-Ziv problem described in a recent paper by Steinberg and Merhav, where the authors showed that if the side information for all stages is identical, then the jointly Gaussian source with squared error distortion measure is successively refinable. We first extend this result to the case where the difference between the source and the side information is Gaussian and independent of the side information. As a byproduct, we give an alternative proof that the Wyner-Ziv problem for these sources has no rate loss-a result that was recently shown by Pradhan et al. through invoking the duality between the Gaussian Wyner-Ziv problem and the Costa problem. We then perform layered Wyner-Ziv code design for this general type of source based on nested scalar quantization, bit-plane coding, and low-density parity check (ldpc) code-based Slepian-Wolf coding (source coding with side information). We show that density evolution can be used to analyze the Slepian-Wolf code performance, provided that certain symmetry conditions, which have been dubbed dual symmetry, are satisfied by the hypothetical channel between the source and the side information. We also show that the dual symmetry condition is indeed satisfied by the hypothetical channel in our Slepian-Wolf coding setup. This justifies the use of density evolution in our ldpc code-based Slepian-Wolf code design for Wyner-Ziv coding. For the jointly Gaussian source, our layered coder performs 1.29 to 3.45 dB from the Wyner-Ziv bound for rates ranging from 0.47 to 4.68 bits per sample. When the side information is Laplacian and the source equals the side information plus an independent Gaussian noise term, our layered coder performs 1.33 to 3.90 dB from the Wyner-Ziv bound for rates ranging from 0.48 to 4.64 bits per sample.
