An adaptive noise canceller is a well-known method for removing noise from noise-corrupted speech. The problem arises in many situations such as airplane cockpits and automobiles. The purpose of the Self Correcting Adaptive Filter (SCAF) method is to improve the accuracy of filters with small order compared to other methods. This paper extends the results of the SCAF by investigating the limit to which the SCAF algorithm approaches when large and abrupt changes of the desired signal as well as the noise signal are present. Simulation results are presented to compare the performance of the SCAF algorithm with the fixed step size lms algorithm.

There are many industrial environments which are exposed to a high-level noise, sometimes much higher than the level of speech. Verbal communication is then practically unfeasible. In order to increase the speech intelligibility, appropriate speech enhancement algorithms can be used. It is impossible to filter off the noise completely from the acquired signal by using a conventional filter, because of two reasons. First, the speech and the noise frequency contents are overlapping. Second, the noise properties are subject to change. The adaptive realisation of the Wiener-based approach can be, however, applied. Two structures are possible. One is the line enhancer, where the predictive realisation of the Wiener approach is used. The benefit of using this structure it that it does not require additional apparatus. The second structure takes advantage of the high level of noise. Under such condition, placing another microphone, even close to the primary one, can provide a reference signal well correlated with the noise disturbing the speech and lacking the information about the speech. Then, the classical Wiener filter can be used, to produce an estimate of the noise based on the reference signal. That noise estimate can be then subtracted from the disturbed speech. Both algorithms are verified, based on the data obtained from the real industrial environment. For laboratory experiments the GRAS. artificial head and two microphones, one at back side of an earplug and another at the mouth are used.

In this paper direct design of Generalized B-spline filters has been presented. It has been shown how to choose filter parameters to meet the desired specifications. These filters exhibit maximally flat magnitude response and low side lobe energy as compared to Kaiser Window filter. Also a new type of adaptive B-spline filter has been developed in this paper. The application of the proposed filters for hybrid echo cancellation on digital cellular has been extensively studied. Results reveal the suitability of the proposed filters for such applications. This filter minimizes the mean square error using proportionate adaptive lms algorithm. The proposed adaptive filter makes a perfect estimate of the hybrid echo.

In this work, we propose a novel lms type algorithm by utilizing the q-gradient. The concept of q-gradient is derived from the definition of Jacksons derivative which is also called as the q-derivative. The q-gradient based lms algorithm results in faster convergence for q > 1 because of the fact that the q-derivative, unlike the conventional derivative which evaluates tangent, computes the secant of the cost function and hence takes larger steps towards the optimum solution. We show an important application of the proposed q-lms algorithm in which it acts like a whitening filter. Convergence analysis of the proposed algorithm is also presented. Simulation results are presented to support our theoretical findings.

This paper describes a single channel, full-duplex wireless communication system that can receive and transmit at the same frequency band in the same time. Recent researches have proved the feasibility of full duplex wireless communication in practice, by canceling the self-interference signal to obtain the desired signal. In this paper, we propose an adaptive digital self-interference cancellation technique, which combines with existing antenna separation and balun based cancellation to achieve the quantity of self-interference cancellation needed for full-duplex system. An adaptive filter based on least mean square (lms) algorithm is applied to track amplitude and phase variations to produce an expected cancellation signal, after the initial delay and frequency offsets are compensated. Our simulation results display that the adaptive digital interference cancellation scheme has fairly desirable self-interference signal cancellation performance.

In this paper, an implementation of adaptive equalizer in TETRA digital trunked system is proposed. The adaptive equalizer is based on lms algorithm. The implementation not only improves the system performance of TETRA, but also needs no extra data overheads. It is verified by simulation that the implementation exhibits good performances on the bad urban channel model defined in TETRA and decreases the bit error rate (BER) by over 10%.

Global Positioning System (CPS) provides accurate, continuous, world-wide, three-dimensional position and velocity information to users with the appropriate receiving equipment. However, because GPS receiver relies on external radio frequency (RE) signals, they are vulnerable to unintentional interference or jamming. RF interference can result in degraded navigation accuracy or complete loss of receiver tracking. Thus, common GPS receivers equip with anti-jam algorithm to suppress the interference. In order to improve the anti-jam performance, it is meaningful and significant for us study how interference signal affects GPS receivers. In this paper, the interference performance of two single-tone interference against Least Mean Square (lms) algorithm in GPS receiver will be analyzed. Simulation results show that when there is specific frequency difference and specific angle difference between two single-tone interference under the condition of uniform linear array, the output Jam-to-Noise ratio (JNR) is bigger and single tone interference have good interference performance against lms algorithm in GPS receivers.

Recently, an adaptive convex combination of two lms (Least Mean-Square) filters was proposed and its tracking performance analyzed. Motivated by the performance of such scheme and by the differences between the tracking capabilities of the RLS (Recursive Least-Squares) and lms algorithms, we propose a convex combination of one lms and one RLS filter. The resulting combination should profit of the best tracking behavior of each component filter. A steady-state analysis via energy conservation relation is also presented for stationary and non-stationary environments.
