A feedforward amplifier, which is composed of several components, is an open loop system. Therefore, feedforward amplifiers are apt to deteriorate its performance according to the environmental changes even though the cancellation performance and the linearization bandwidth of feedforward systems are superior to other linearization methods. A control method is needed for maintaining the original performance of feedforward amplifiers or to keep the desired performance within a little error bounds. In this paper, an adaptive control method using the steepest descent algorithm, which has a good convergence characteristic and is easy to implement, is suggested. The characteristics of the suggested control method compare with the characteristics of other control methods and the simulation results are presented.

With the development of wireless communication technology, more and more conversation is based on IP protocol, the time-delay jitter is unavoidable in IP conversation due to it provide a best-effort service. In this paper, a scheme uses jitter buffer to eliminate jitter is proposed, the adaptive jitter buffer is set to solve the jitter problem and control the packet loss rate. In the meantime, lms(Least Mean Square) algorithm is used to adjust the length of buffer by predicting the average jitter in next period. To prove the performance of the scheme, time-delay and packet loss rate are simulated on OPENT. Compared with the existing method, the scheme is proved that it can provide lower packet loss rate and smaller jitter.

Data acquired by transient electromagnetic system include the desired signals as well as various interferential noises. Signals of the secondary field in TEM method are generally slight that the industrial-frequency noise can fully overwhelm the signals reflecting the geo-electrical anomaly in engineering and environmental geophysics. In such situation, to eliminate industrial noise is one of the elementary jobs. In this paper, we design an adaptive filter that is based on least-mean-square algorithm to reduce industrial-frequency interference. Both theoretical modeling and practical application show the designed algorithm of the adaptive filter is available and efficient.

FECG (Fetal Electrocardiogram) signal convey information in making timely decisions during pregnancy. It is very important to extract and detect the FECG signal from a composite maternal abdominal signals for task of fetal monitoring. We implement adaptive filters for the task of separation of FECG signal from the abdominal ECG signal and understand its nature. A Least Mean Square (lms) algorithm is implemented for the purpose of detection adaptively. Data compression techniques are implemented foe the filtered ECG signal for the purpose of easy storage and transmission. Since the data is more important and sensitive, it is necessary to implement lossless compression with high compression ratio by reducing the redundancy involved in the ECG signal with low noise. A Fast Fourier Transform, Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), DCT-II and Discrete Sine Transform (DST) methods are used here for the purpose of compression. The performance metrics like compression ratio, low percent mean square (PRD) are compared and the results are tabulated by using Matlab software tool.

In this paper, we use a matrix adaptive filter as the synthesis stage of a Uniform Filter Bank (UFB) to reconstruct the input signal. We first develop the mathematical theory behind it by applying the model of optimal filtering at the synthesis stage of the UFB and obtaining an expression for the matrix Wiener filter. We have developed a theorem which we use to simplify the expression further. In the absence of required information about the analysis stage, we use adaptive filtering to arrive at the Wiener solution. We use the Least Mean Square (lms) algorithm to update the filter coefficients. Through experimental results, we find that the adaptive filter is convergent for a stable Wiener filter.

This paper presents a proposal of an Adaptive Equalizer based on DFE, and its implementation in FPGA, to make DVB-S2 transmission reliable under ISI (specially for wide-band transmissions) and to make possible the mobile reception over satellite links for QPSK modulation. The Equalizer also presents the potential to reduce the nonlinear distortion effects, which are typically found in the satellite link and is caused by the satellite power amplifiers. This mainly affects high order modulations. The implementation is very flexible because it can make use of CMA and DD algorithms as well as the DVB-S2 header and embedded pilots as training sequences. Its adaptation is performed using the lms algorithm. The paper presents the proposed architecture and algorithms, the VHDL simulations for AWGN channels and ISI, and the FPGA implementation resource usage. This is the initial step towards an implementation in VLSI.

Combinations of adaptive filters have attracted attention as a simple solution to improve filter performance, including tracking properties. In this paper, we consider combinations of lms and RLS filters, and study their performance for tracking time-varying solutions. We show that a combination of two filters from the same family (i.e., two lms or two RLS filters) cannot improve the performance over that of a single filter of the same type with optimal selection of the step size (or forgetting factor). However, combining lms and RLS filters it is possible to simultaneously outperform the optimum lms and RLS filters. In other words, combination schemes can achieve smaller errors than optimally adjusted individual filters. Experimental work in a plant identification setup corroborates the validity of our results.

IPMC is one kind of electro-active polymer materials, which is called artificial muscle. Like piezoelectric material, the creep property also exists in IPMC. In this paper we explained how the creep property created in IPMC, modified the creep model based on piezoelectric in order to get a creep model which fitted IPMC. For the creep property of IPMC changes with time, we applied adaptive inverse control to control IPMC, and got good experiment results.

A semi-blind Expectation-Maximization (EM) channel estim ation algorithm is proposed for 50 Gb/s quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK)-Discrete MultiTone (DMT) signal transmission systems using intensity modulation/direct detection (IM/DD) over 100 km standard single mode fiber (SSMF). The reported channel estimation methods for DMT systems can be roughly divided into two categories: semi-blind channel estimation and blind channel estimation. Due to the low accuracy of traditional blind channel estimation algorithm and lower spectral efficiency of the semi-blind channel estimation algorithm relying on more training sequences (TS), EM algorithm is proposed that is a two-step iterative procedure to maximize the likelihood function for achieving channel estimation instead of classical semi-blind channel estimation methods with more TS. Also, we assume the channel of the IM/DD DMT system as an additive white gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. Simulation results show that using EM algorithm yields about 2 dB optical signal noise ratio (OSNR) improvement at a bit error ratio (BER) of 3.8x10(-3) compared to classical channel estimation based on TS under the same number of TS and has the similar performance compared to classical channel estimation relying on more TS. In addition, it is shown that at high OSNR (> 19 dB), the performance of EM algorithm outperforms that of lms algorithm. On the contrary, the performance of least mean square (lms) algorithm outperforms that of EM algorithm at low OSNR (< 19 dB).

This paper presents the application of Adaptive filters in noise cancellation during various communication processes, where non-stationary signals are transmitted. Adaptive filter estimates the noise signal and by applying the appropriate weights the estimated noise signal is eliminated from the information. For noise cancellation applications most efficient Adaptive filter algorithms lms and its normalized form Nlms are used and their comparative analysis is done in form of their output power, error power and SNR. In both of the algorithms concept of negative feedback is utilized in the cancellation of noise from the signal and thus both of these are also called negative feedback algorithms. Implementation and analysis is done by applying different step sizes on different order of filter. Order of filter is taken as 4, 8, 12 and then by changing the values of coefficients the graphical and computational analysis is done. Finally an efficient design using Nlms algorithm is implemented where order is taken as 8 and step size 0.2. This results as a low error power (11.7221 db) and a high value of SNR (1.1445) than that of lms algorithms.
