The value of the step factor affects the performance of all aspects of the lms algorithm, including convergence speed, steady-state error, and anti-interference ability. The traditional fixed-step lms algorithm performs a weight update step factor with a fixed value. If the step factor has a large value, the convergence speed is fast but the steady-state error is also large. If the step factor value is small, the steady state error is small but the convergence speed is reduced. It is difficult for the fixed step to satisfy the requirements of both the convergence speed and the steady-state error of the algorithm. Therefore, this paper proposes a variable step size lms adaptive algorithm based on exponential function. The algorithm leads into controllable parameters to adjust the step size factor, and analyzes the influence of the values of each parameter in the algorithm on the step factor. The final model of the algorithm is obtained through multiple experiments. The simulation results show that compared with the existing algorithms, the proposed algorithm has faster convergence speed and smaller steady-state error.

Least mean squares (lms) adaptive algorithms are attractive for distributed environment parameter estimation problems in a smart city due to the benefits of cooperation, adaptation, and rapid convergence. To obtain a reliable estimate of the network-wide parameter vector, local results can be further fused by intermediate agents in a distributed incremental way. In this paper, we propose an intelligent variable step size incremental lms (VSS-Ilms) algorithm to solve the dilemma between fast convergence rate and low mean-square deviation (MSD) in conventional incremental lms (Ilms) algorithms. The main idea behind our proposal is that the local step-size is adaptively updated by minimizing the MSD in every iteration, where Tikhonov regularization and time-averaging estimation methods are adopted. A theoretical analysis of proposed algorithm is presented in terms of mean square performance and mean step size in a closed form. Simulation results show that VSS-Ilms algorithm outperforms the constant step size Ilms algorithm and several classical variable step-size lms algorithms. The derived theoretical results shows good agreement with those based on simulated data. For a practical consideration, the proposed algorithm is also verified by the model of target localization in sensor networks.

In leak noise correlation surveys, time delay estimation (TDE) is of great importance in pinpointing a suspected leak. Conventional TDE methods involve pre-filtering processes prior to performing cross-correlation, based on a priori knowledge of the leak and background noise spectra, to achieve the desired performance. Despite advances in recent decades, they have not proven to be capable of tracking changes in sensor signals as yet. This paper presents an adaptive phase transform method based on least mean square (lms) algorithms for the determination of the leak location to overcome this limitation. Simulation results on plastic water pipes show that, compared to the conventional lms method, the proposed adaptive method is more robust to a low signal-to-noise ratio. To further verify the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive method, an analysis is carried out on field tests of real networks. Moreover, it has been shown that by using the actual measured data, improved performance of the proposed method for pipeline leakage detection is achieved. Hence, this paper presents a promising method, which has the advantages of simple implementation and ability to track changes in practice, as an alternative technique to the existing correlation-based leak detection methods.

In the harmonic detection circuit, the precision of detection of harmonic current is crucial to the realization of the entire circuit's function. By using the combination of the adaptive theory and the traditional instantaneous reactive power theory, extraction of fundamental current using the lms adaptive algorithm improve filtering accuracy and shorten the delay time compared with the low pass filter, the accuracy of detecting current is further improved.

Differential Algebraic Equations (DAEs) are essential in the analysis of many engineering, physical, chemical and mathematical systems. Numerical methods are popular to solve highly nonlinear and even linear DAEs. On the other hand, analytical solutions for DAEs are very limited. This work presents an efficient analytical solution for DAEs based on power series regressions. The coefficients of the estimated power series solution are adaptively computed employing the computationally simple signed least mean squares adaptive algorithm. The DAEs are assumed to be on the general implicit canonical form. The proposed adaptive power series method can solve linear and nonlinear DAEs systems. The efficient and accurate solutions provided by the technique proposed are illustrated through simulated examples. It is shown that the performance of the technique proposed outperforms existing conventional and modern methods.

Bias of magnetometers and target total value is obtained precisely via calibration equipment. Then, real time calibration weight matrix is obtained using lms adaptive algorithm. It is proved through experiment that bias is obtained with good stability and accuracy compared with parameter estimation;after calibration, diversionary error is reduced from 33nT to 4nT. Furthermore, diversionary error is calibrated well using a proton magnetometer without rotating the magnetometer over one circle. Experiment results show that it not only reduces diversionary error fluctuation but also eliminates system error compared with other methods.

Spectrum handoff is one of key technologies of cognitive radio. A spectrum handoff strategy based on adaptive weights adjustment is proposed, considering the effect of secondary users' (SUs) transmission power, fading factor, bandwidth and channel availability on the target channel selecting. According to the principle of multi-attribute simple additive weight algorithm (MA-SAW), the expected effect function of each channel is obtained by analysis. Making full use of the change of the various factors in cognitive wireless network, the lms adaptive algorithm of dynamic weights is put forward. Finally, the dynamic weights are applied to MA-SAW, to determine target channel to switch. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce the switching times of SUs, and improve the effective transmission rate.

In this paper we have implemented an adaptive filter to compensate for the non-linearity in a speaker. An attempt has been made to minimize the Mean Square Error (MSE) and convergence time using the lms adaptive algorithm. Two adaptations of the lms have been considered, the general adaptive lms algorithm and the Leaky lms algorithm. The Leaky lms adaptation is observed to be more efficient with almost a 40 % decrease in convergence time. The filter coefficients for the above objective function are obtained using MATLAB. The target processor for implementing the two algorithms is Tensilica/Xtensa SDK toolkit using 'C' language which enables the codes to be directly dumped on to hardware.

Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID), a prominent technology which carries information by radio waves, evolving rapidly as a major and innovative way to meet the growing demand for more powerful, cost-effective and highly efficient technology to wirelessly identify and track goods and assets worldwide. To improve the coverage, read rate and accuracy of this highly prospective technology dense reader RFID systems should be employed where reader collisions are very likely to happen. Reader collision problems are the main constraints to large-scale deployment of the multi-reader RFID systems and the ability to handle this problem efficiently is crucial for the performance, speed, efficiency and reliability of the whole system. In this paper we proposed a simple lms algorithm based smart antenna technique to solve the reader collision problems efficiently in a dense reader environment. The simulation results show that, the proposed method will be a great approach to solve this problem due to the characteristics such as robustness and implementation simplicity.
