Configuring an operational student audio-lab with Labview and a Soundblaster card

Generally available equipment can be used to create an easily programmable audio-lab for students that operates well. The equipment consists of a piece of commercial software, namely Labview, and an easily available audio card for a PC, such as a Soundblaster (or compatible). Incorporation of this equipment in the learning process of, for example, wave theory, sound theory and statistical analysis of experiments should appeal to the students and have noticeable benefits.

A photovoltaic (PV) array performance depends on various operating conditions. Solar irradiation is considered the most important factor. The shading on PV array can result from passing clouds, trees, utility, telephone poles, or neighboring buildings. It causes not only power losses, but also increases non-linearity of V-I characteristics of PV array. This phenomenon has been studied in many research works using different software packages. In this paper, user-friendly LabView tool is proposed to simulate effects of PV shading on its characteristics. Simulation results are verified through different case studies.

This work demonstrates a system-on-chip circuitry for epileptic seizure detection. The circuitry contains a modified OpenRISC1200 processor core with on-chip Wishbone bus and interfaces circuitries, embedded 48KB SRAM, a multi-mode Sigma-Delta modulator and its digital filter, 7 pre-amplifiers and an analog multiplexer. The size of proposed circuitry is 2994 μm by 2994 μm, which was fabricated in TSMC 0.18μm CMOS technology. The maximum operation frequency of designed SoC is 100 MHz. The fabricated SoC was mounted on a costumed printed circuit board (PCB) for functional and performance evaluation. The circuitry and PCB was then programed absent seizure detection algorithm and apply to a Long-Evans rat with absent seizure to verify its real time performance.

This paper presents a new approach in using NI LabVIEW and NI myDAQ hardware to drive DC-DC power converters. Seamless signaling and circuit configuration is presented and interfaces of the power electronic circuit and microcontroller are illustrated. Experimental implementation of the board and the results are presented to verify the functionality and capabilities of the proposed approach.

In this paper the dynamic of an aircraft was modeled based on a discrete-time stochastic linear hybrid system - its modes corresponding to various flight modes of the aircraft. A predictive control model was designed based on the industrial control predictive model (MPC - Model Predictive Control). The interface of the simulator dedicated to estimate the trajectory was created in LabVIEW. As a result, the present work proposes a predictive controller with an internal model to be used with the purpose of predicting the behavior correlated with the assumed entry. Furthermore, an application for the control of unstable helicopters was created in Matlab.

Pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs) are difficult to control because of their highly nonlinear and time varying nature, thus robust control method is needed. Sliding mode control can be favourably used for accurate positioning of PAMs. In this paper the error of sliding mode control based positioning of a Fluidic Muscle at different temperatures is determined. The controller is developed in LabVIEW and the error of the experiments shows 0.01 mm.

This paper presents a hardware implementation of a multilayer feed-forward neural network based on back-propagation. The implementation is assumed to design and implement modules that emulate FF-BP functions with computing blocks of the predefined System Generator library and user defined blocks integrated in the System Generator library. The main application of the developed structure is an artificial olfactory system used to recognize the type of coffee presented in a test chamber. Data acquisition was achieved through the PC-MIO-16E-1 acquisition card and a virtual instrument, developed in Labview, for signal pre-processing and data logging into text files. The patterns presented (the type of coffee) have been recognized through neural networks. In order to select the RNA with the highest accuracy in recognising the coffee type, several different RNAs were simulated.

Pulse wave velocity measurement (PWV) is non-invasive method to assess arterial stiffness. It is useful as a prevention of cardiovascular system diseases. This paper describes development and function of other possibility how to measure PWV. Device which is used for this study consists of dual channel hardware for photopletysmograph signal preprocessing, USB workstation for continuous conversion of measured data and data analyzing by LabView software. Output of the software is graphical user interface which displays measured signals and calculated values of pulse wave velocity.

This paper describe a HMI interface used for monitoring and control of drilling rig applications. The software used is an embedded solution developed with LabVIEW graphic oriented software which provides a flexible and reliable support for SCADA. The today's trend in drilling operation imply a larger use of computer added monitoring and control aiming to secure higher levels of efficiency and safety. the HMI presented in this paper is oriented to offer a complete view of status parameters for diesel generators and electrical drives of the drilling rig.

High-density microelectrode arrays (HDMEAs) provide the capability to monitor the extracellular electric potential of multiple neurons at subcellular resolution over extended periods of time. In contrast, patch clamp allows for intracellular, sub-threshold recordings from a single patched neuron for very limited time on the order of an hour. Therefore, it will be beneficial to combine HDMEA and patch clamp for simultaneous intra-and extracellular recording of neuronal activity. Previously, it has been shown that the HDMEA can be used to localize and steer a glass micropipette towards a target location without using an optical microscope [1]. Here, we present an automated system, implemented in LabVIEW, which automatically locates and moves the glass micropipette towards a user-defined target. The presented system constitutes a first step towards developing an automated system to navigate a pipette to patch a neuron in vitro.
