The modern library derives from a vision of public service developed in the 19th century. At various times in the past a commercial service, an educational resource, a religious domain and a political institution, the library today exists in various forms, including all these but in addition the professional libraries held by law firms and scientific or technological associations, multimedia lending libraries and certain areas of the world-wide web.

Cultural heritage sites, including libraries where historical texts are available, are responsible to staff, research visitors, and the public for providing a safe and healthy work and educational experience. Identifying hazards inherent and acquired on collections, or in contaminated work areas and storage environments, has become more prevalent with the use of XRF analysis (for metals), knowledge of collector's notes, and records of conservation methods. However, this is only source identification data, that typically does not directly correlate to the potential health risk from specific work tasks and where routes of exposure exist. An occupational exposure assessment, conducted by a qualified health and safety professional, will determine actual risks during work tasks via personal sampling devices and media, surface and dermal wipes, and other methods. An exposure assessment case study is presented, related to the testing and assessment of worker exposure to and workspace contamination from selected metals (arsenic, chromium, lead, and mercury) within historical collections at a regional library. Personal sampling results quantified potential inhalation exposures, wipe samples verified the presence of contaminants on hands (potential ingestion risk), and surface wipe results identified cross-contamination in collection storage and work areas. Detailed recommendations for improved safe work practices, personal protection, and other controls were offered. Understanding hazard sources, routes of exposure, and surface transference defines both the potential health risk and the methods to best control that exposure. Safety and collection preservation and conservation are not disjointed topics. Safety can work hand in hand to support the protection of collections.

This study began with the desire to design a public town
library of the future and became a search for an inkling of
what is essential to Architecture. It is murky and full of
contradictions. It asks more than it proposes, and the
traces of its windings are better ordered through collage
than logical synthesis. This study is neither a thesis nor a
synthesis. When drawing out the measure of this study it
may be beneficial to state what it attempts to place at the
perimeter. Architecture is not a product of society,
civilization, or economy. Architecture is not democratic,
and it cannot be brought forward in the public realm.
Architecture is not a private affair. Architecture is not
space, and it is not building. This study does attempt to
hold that Architecture is founded in speech and gesture
which originate in culture. As ’constructions’ (construings),
Architecture and the book share with the body the
potential for utterance. The library is the coincidence of
Architecture, the book, and the body.

BackgroundThe post-pandemic expansion of virtual care in Nova Scotia aimed to improve access for patients without primary care providers. Virtual Care Nova Scotia, launched in 2021, and increased access, but equitable reach remained a concern. The Virtual Care @ Your library (VC@YL) initiative addressed this gap by offering virtual healthcare access through public libraries in collaboration with government and health *** descriptive observational study applied the RE-AIM framework. Reach was assessed by the number of participants. Effectiveness was evaluated through service utilization and satisfaction. Adoption examined staff burden and role integration. Implementation fidelity and access barriers were documented. Maintenance was assessed via cost analysis and potential savings from avoiding emergency department (ED) and walk-in clinic visits under different utilization and cost ***@YL engaged 518 unique users across 1,073 visits. Most users were aged 65+ (64.2%), citing technological barriers (75.4%) and support needs (77.6%) as primary reasons for use. All users successfully completed virtual care appointments, with 98% reporting positive experiences. Among library staff, 83% felt well-supported, and 65% of patron interactions required less than 15 min. Digital literacy assistance was the most common service (75.4%).The total project cost for VC@YL was $93,061, incorporating both one-time implementation and recurring staff costs. The cost per VC@YL utilization was $87. Avoided ED visits resulted in net savings of up to $63,614, though higher virtual care costs reduced savings in certain scenarios. Walk-in clinic diversions yielded negative cost savings due to the cost structure. Total savings ranged from $15,708 to $61,541, with per-person savings from $30 to $57, depending on virtual care consultation costs and utilization ***@YL engaged 518 unique users across 1,073 visits. Most users were aged 65+ (64.2%), cit

This study investigated the role of public libraries in enhancing adult education in Tanzania with particular reference to TLSB. Specifically, the study looked at the information services offered to adult learners, the availability of special areas for adult learners, the skills possessed by library staff serving adult learners, the challenges faced by library staff offering services to Adult Learners, and measures for improving library Services for Adult learners. The study adopted a case design whereby Tanzania library Board Services was used as a case. The study population included all TLSB stakeholders, including library users, staff, and the TLSB director. The sample size of this study comprised of 36 library staff. Respondents were purposively selected for inclusion in this study. Questionnaires were the data collection method employed to gather data from library staff and were analyzed descriptively, and results were presented in Tables, Figures and Charts. Information services offered to adult learners were identified, and thus, TLSB has a special area for adult learners was also revealed. The study also established that TLSB has staff with specialized skills serving adult learners. Challenges faced by library staff offering services to adult learners and the measures for improving library services for adult learners were also revealed in this study. The study concludes that providing library services has to go with the availability of other factors, such as adequate materials, reading space, and staff with the skills to assist adult learners. The study recommends addressing the identified challenges for adequate information services provision to adult learners, and the identified measures should be considered.

To investigate whether and how library information support affects the community correction effect, a total of 504 community correction clients in Anhui Province, China, were investigated via questionnaire. The results show that information support moderated the second half of the relationship between stress-mediated social exclusion and the correction effect, and high information support diminished the influence of stress on the correction effect;and it also moderated the second half of the relationship between social exclusion and the correction effect mediated by self-efficacy, and high information support weakened the influence of self-efficacy on the correction effect. Emotional support moderated the second half of the relationship between social exclusion and the correction effect mediated by stress. This study provides a new perspective on library services for disadvantaged groups and verifies the moderating role of information support on the influence of stress and self-efficacy on the correction effect. The application of the 'stressor-strain-outcome (SSO)' model is expanded, and the model that affects the correction effect is verified. In practice, library information support is conducive to improving the cultural literacy of correction clients and enhancing their social competitiveness, expanding the library user community, enhancing the correction effect, and maintaining social security and stability.

The article discusses cultural mapping as a participatory research method for regenerative cultural policy through investigating the role of libraries as a social infrastructure. It argues that the reframing of cultural policy in a regenerative way - under the idea of the renewal of cultural ecosystems - requires participatory methodological approaches that involve communities and recognise specific characteristics of a place to follow a holistic attempt. Cultural mapping aims to visualise local cultural knowledge such as feelings, practices, memories or rituals that are important to a community. The method is used to involve communities in cultural planning processes and to visualise and incorporate knowledge that has so far been overlooked or ignored by cultural policy stakeholders. The article uses the case study of cultural mapping in the public library in the city of Ravensburg, Germany, focussing on (1) favourite places of library users, (2) children and young people and (3) barriers for non-users.

Divided into three parts, this article highlights the spatial and temporal boundaries of Jean Piaget's library through a visual history of his office based on photographs taken since the late 1960s. First, we showed how Piaget's library, as part of an intellectual ecosystem, sedimented along a spatial boundary into a horizontalized space, the "archipilago," consisting of an archipelago of book stacks and files, and a vertical space, the wall-mounted bookcases. This division of space corresponded to two donations of works to the Piaget Archives made at different times. It also highlights the fact that Piaget's writing space became mobile at a certain point in time, which has yet to be determined. Second, we scrutinized Piaget's intellectual ecosystem, asking how his disorder was structured and what its temporal boundaries were. To answer this question, we developed a model that distinguished between two types of behavior specific to an intellectual ecosystem: research behavior and archival behavior, the former managing the potentiality of the elements it processed (open segments), while the latter closed many of these segments. Applying this model, it becomes clear that certain areas of the office were closed at a certain point in time, especially the library, which was thus partially inaccessible. The third part focused on the heuristic perimeter of this intellectual ecosystem, using statistical analyses of the library to complement its visual history. These analyses allowed us to better understand Piaget's relationship with certain issues, such as the time it took him to build up his library, the types of reading he did, the evolution of his relationship with interdisciplinarity and the interdisciplinary perception of him by the scientific community, and the geographical distribution of the works dedicated to him at different times. The article concludes by showing how the analysis of the library allowed us to date the period when the writing space became mobile, P

Through Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, Fred Rogers fostered fundamental dispositions that young children would need in their futures, including respect for the unique human qualities of others, cultivating positive peer relationships, and a heart for kindness and empathy. Fred Rogers gave his audience grace and hope to celebrate the curiosities of daily life. A small pilot study was conducted to encourage teachers to understand the importance of including a diverse range of reading materials in their classroom libraries by introducing Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Findings from the study demonstrates dispositions and qualities on how Fred Rogers provided children with a neighborhood that understood diversity and culturally responsive teaching for all children. Teachers can encourage culturally responsive teaching by reading and providing picture books from a classroom library that encourages conversations, sharing, and interactions with peers. Therefore, the pilot study also questions teacher bias when including picture books that may be criticized for being allowed and available to children to read in classroom libraries. Each teacher has a role to play in building neighborhoods of their own in classroom libraries. Mister Rogers' Neighborhood has a place in democratic living skills training for teachers to nurture the affective and social lives of young children.
