Non-isolated two-stage inverter is widely used in new energy vehicles, photovoltaics, energy storage and other fields due to its advantages of small size and high conversion efficiency. In order to enhance dynamic performance and robustness of non-isolated two-stage inverter, a model predictive control (MPC) method based on linear extended state observer (LESO) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, mathematical model of the inverter and a cascade MPC strategy are presented. Secondly, the cost functions are evaluated by using deadbeat control method to achieve better dynamic performance. Furthermore, to solve the problems of external disturbance and parameter mismatches, the LESOs are designed to estimate and compensate each control loop. Finally, the simulation and experiment results validate the faster dynamic performance and strong robustness of the proposed method compared with conventional method.

In order to suppress the load position control error due to torsional stiffness of two-inertia systems, a linear extended state observer based anti-interference robust position control is proposed to overcome this issue. It is composed of a back-stepping position controller (BPC) and a linear extended state observer (LESO), and validated on a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) based two-inertia servo platform. The test result shows superior performance in the suppression of position error and good robustness against uncertain parameter changes and load interference.

Isokinetic muscle strength training is a type of rehabilitation therapy that can effectively improve the motor dysfunction of limbs and enhance joint muscle strength. In active isokinetic training, how to plan the speed reasonably and improve the performance of speed control to fit individualized needs is the core problem of isokinetic muscle strength training equipment control. In this study, a control strategy for isokinetic muscle strength training equipment is proposed, which identifies the user's motion intention and performs speed planning according to the user's motion participation so that the equipment produces a dynamic damping effect. This ensures active interaction between the user and the equipment and meets the force-speed requirements of elbow joint muscle training. To handle the uncertain disturbance in the training process, a linear extended state observer is used to estimate the disturbance term, and a tracking differentiator and nonlinear error feedback control are used to improve the speed tracking performance. The experimental results show that the proposed control scheme realizes effective speed control in isokinetic muscle strength training. Note to Practitioners-The bottleneck of isokinetic muscle strength training equipment control system lies in how to plan the speed according to the patient's movement intention reasonably, and how to improve the performance of speed control in the process of rehabilitation training. This paper designs a speed auto disturbance rejection control strategy for isokinetic muscle strength training system with external interference and model uncertainty in practical application. The experimental results show that the performance of the controller is better than the traditional PI controller, and it can realize isokinetic muscle training. This study provides a method for practitioners interested in developing control systems for isokinetic rehabilitation training equipment.

An auxiliary linear extended state observer and a position-velocity integral sliding mode controller based on improved reaching law are proposed to address position-tracking control issues in servo systems. Servo systems are always affected by internal or external disturbances, making it hard to meet the requirements of precise and fast positioning. Firstly, sliding mode control due to its merit of insensitivity to parameter variations and fast response is introduced. Secondly, an auxiliary linear extended state observer is designed for the estimation of the time-varying uncertainty, which makes up for the disadvantage of only robust to matched disturbances in sliding mode control. Next, to address the chattering issue in the sliding mode control method based on the exponential reaching law, the switching function is substituted with the saturation function, while introducing a power term of the sliding surface magnitude to track the input reference faster, resulting in an improved reaching law. Finally, the proposed approach is compared with other methods. Numerous simulation results demonstrate that the method we proposed improves positioning accuracy, tracks the input reference faster, reduces chattering, and has a certain robustness.

The conventional model predictive control (MPC) method of the non-isolated two-stage AC-DC-DC converter has poor robustness and dynamic characteristics under conditions of model mismatch, external disturbance, and load disturbance. To solve this problem, a model-free predictive control method of the converter based on linear extended state observer (LESO) is proposed in this article. First, the ultra-local model of the two-stage converter is constructed to replace the mathematical model. Second, to improve the accuracy of the ultra-local model, LESOs are designed to estimate the uncertain part of each control loop. Third, the cost functions are adopted based on the deadbeat control method to achieve better dynamic performance. Finally, to further reduce the output current ripple, the carrier phase-shifting pulse width modulation is applied. The experimental results verify the high robustness and better control performance of the proposed method in a two-stage converter compared with the conventional MPC method.

In response to the problem of misdiagnosis caused by changes in surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) load torque and speed, a fault diagnosis method for inter-turn short circuit (ITSC) fault based on linear extended state observer (LESO) is proposed in this paper. First, a linear extended state observer is built to estimate the variation of the motor's back electromotive force (EMF) of the d-q axis. Second, second order generalized integrator (SOGI) is built to extract the negative sequence component of the back EMF, and the normalized amplitude is used as the fault index. Then to build fault location index, the sum of back EMF of the d-q axis is calculated, and its second order harmonic phase angle and current phase angle are extracted. Finally, the simulation results indicate that the proposed diagnostic method simultaneously improves the robustness of the variation of load torque and speed based on the guaranteed accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

For the boost converter, the performance of conventional MPC method is influenced by parameter mismatches and load perturbation. To enhance the ability of disturbance rejection and dynamic response, this paper proposes a model predictive control (MPC) algorithm based on deadbeat method using a linear extended state observer (LESO). By incorporating parasitic resistance, disturbance of load resistance and input voltage as lumped disturbance, a compensation predictive model is designed by LESO. Furthermore, in order to reduce the current and voltage ripples, the carrier phase shifting pulse width modulation (CPS-PWM) is adopted in interleaved boost converter. Compared with the conventional PI-MPC, the proposed method has a better performance of dynamic and robustness.

Purpose This paper's aim is modeling and simulation of an advanced controller design for a novel mechatronics system that consists of a hydrostatic journal bearing with servo control. The proposed mechatronic system has more worth in tribology applications as compared to the traditional hydrostatic bearing which has limited efficiency and poor performance because of lower stiffness and load-carrying capacity. The proposed mechatronic system takes advantage of active lubrication to improve stiffness, rotor's stability and load-carrying capacity. Design/methodology/approach The current work proposes extended state observer-based controller to control the active lubrication for hydrostatic journal bearing. The advantage of using observer is to estimate unknown state variables and lumped effects because of unmodeled dynamics, model uncertainties, and unknown external disturbances. The effectiveness of the proposed mechatronic system is checked against the traditional hydrostatic bearing. Findings Proposed mechatronics active hydrostatic journal bearing system is checked against traditional hydrostatic journal bearing. It is found that novel active hydrostatic journal bearing with servo control has good tribology performance factors such as stiffness, less rotor vibration, no wear and friction under starting conditions and high load-carrying capacity under different conditions of spindle speed, temperature, initial oil pressure and external disturbance. The result shows that proposed mechatronics system has more worth in rotary tribology applications. Originality/value The current manuscript designs a novel active hydrostatic journal bearing system with servo control. The mathematical model has advantages in term of estimating unknown state variables and lumped effects because of unmodeled dynamics, model uncertainties and unknown external disturbances. Robust tracking control for two classes of variable stiffness actuators based on linear extended state observer with estimation error compensation

In this article, a novel robust tracking control scheme based on linear extended state observer with estimation error compensation is proposed for the tracking control of the antagonistic variable stiffness actuator based on equivalent nonlinear torsion spring and the serial variable stiffness actuator based on lever mechanism. For the dynamic models of these two classes of variable stiffness actuators, considering the parametric uncertainties, the unknown friction torques acting on the driving units, the unknown external disturbances acting on the output links and the input saturation constraints, an integral chain pseudo-linear system with input saturation constraints and matched lumped disturbances is established by coordinate transformation. Subsequently, the matched lumped disturbances in the pseudo-linear system are extended to the new system states, and we obtain an extended integral chain pseudo-linear system. Then, we design the linear extended state observer to estimate the unknown states of the extended pseudo-linear system. Considering the input saturation constraints in the extended pseudo-linear system and the estimation errors of the linear extended state observer with fixed preset observation gains, the adaptive input saturation compensation laws and the novel estimation error compensators are designed. Finally, a robust tracking controller based on linear extended state observer, sliding mode control, adaptive input saturation compensation laws, and estimating error compensators is designed to achieve simultaneous position and stiffness tracking control of these two classes of variable stiffness actuators. Under the action of the designed controller, the semi-global uniformly ultimately bounded stability of the closed-loop system is proved by the stability analysis of the candidate Lyapunov function. Recently, wind energy conversion systems (WECSs) have attracted attention due to their effective application in renewable energy sources. It is a complex system with multi-variables, strong coupling, non-linearity, and variable parameters;however, traditional control systems are inadequate in answering the demands of complex systems. In order to solve the complexity and improve the transient stability during grid faults and power fluctuations, this paper proposes a fuzzy logic system with the linear extended state observer (FLS-LESO) applied to WECSs based on a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). The FLS-LESO consists of a fuzzy logic controller, a conventional PD controller, and the linear extended state observer (LESO). This paper analyzes the mathematical model of a wind power system and combines it with LESO to improve the estimation accuracy of the observer and further improve the control performance. In the simulation study, the control performance of the FLS-LESO was also tested under various operating conditions using the MATLAB/Simulink simulation platform to verify the correctness and effectiveness of the control system.
