linear precoding for Broadcast Channels with Confidential Messages under Transmit-Side Channel Correlation

In this paper, we analyze the performance of regularized channel inversion (RCI) precoding in multiple-input single-output (MISO) broadcast channels with confidential messages under transmit-side channel correlation. We derive a deterministic equivalent for the achievable per-user secrecy rate which is almost surely exact as the number of transmit antennas and the number of users grow to infinity in a fixed ratio, and we determine the optimal regularization parameter that maximizes the deterministic equivalent of the secrecy rate. Furthermore, we obtain deterministic equivalents for the secrecy rates achievable by: (i) zero forcing precoding and (ii) single user beamforming. The accuracy of our analysis is validated by simulations of finite-size systems.

Joint Channel Estimation and precoding for Faster-Than-Nyquist Signaling

The performance of existing frequency-domain channel estimation and equalization algorithms for faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) signaling is seriously hampered with the noise enhancement phenomenon that results from their inverse or pseudo-inverse operations. Through simulations, we show that the linear precoding can effectively mitigate the above-mentioned noise enhancement phenomenon. At first, a low complexity precoding-based channel estimation (PCE) algorithm is proposed for FTN signaling over frequency-selective fading channels. In contrast with most existing frequency-domain channel estimation algorithms, the proposed PCE algorithm has much better mean square error performance, and the performance improvement enlarges with the increase of signal to noise ratio. Furthermore, a joint channel estimation and precoding (JCEP) algorithm is proposed to perform data detection for FTN signaling over frequency-selective fading channels. On the one hand, compared with the existing frequency-domain channel estimation and equalization algorithms, the JCEP algorithm greatly reduces the complexity of signal processing at receivers since it performs the linear precoding processing at transmitters. On the other hand, even with estimated channel state information (CSI), the proposed JCEP algorithm can approach the bit error rate (BER) performance of the Nyquist signaling for all the modulation types adopted in digital video broadcasting-satellite-second generation extension (DVB-S2X). More precisely, the BER performance degradation with perfect and estimated CSI is 0.06dB and 0.07dB respectively when the time acceleration parameter equals to 0.7 and the rolling factor is 0.45.

Optimization of Integer-Forcing precoding for Multi-User MIMO Downlink

Integer-forcing (IF) precoding is an alternative to linear precoding for multi-user (MU) multiple-input-multipleoutput (MIMO) channels, with the potential to offer superior performance at a similar complexity. In this letter, a lowcomplexity suboptimal method is proposed to optimize the parameters of an IF scheme for any number of K users. The proposed method involves solving a relaxation of the problem followed by the application of a lattice reduction algorithm and is shown to have an overall complexity of O(K-3). Simulation results show that the proposed method achieves a higher sum rate than a heuristic choice of parameters and significantly outperforms conventional linear precoding in all simulated scenarios.

We study the transmission problem in a distributed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system consisting of several distributed transmitters and a common receiver. Assuming partial channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT), we propose a low-cost weighted channel matching and scattering (WCMS) linear precoding strategy. The proposed precoder can be decomposed into two parallel modules: channel matching (CM) and energy scattering. The signals generated by the CM modules from different transmitters provide a coherent gain with improved power efficiency. The use of the scattering modules provides robustness against CSIT uncertainty. By properly combining these two modules, WCMS can achieve coherent gain proportional to the accuracy of the available CSIT as well as robustness against CSIT error. WCMS is simple and fully decentralized and thus is highly suitable for a distributed MIMO system. Numerical results demonstrate that WCMS indeed achieves significant gains in distributed MIMO environments with partial CSIT.

In this paper, we investigate low-complexity user scheduling schemes for the downlink (DL) massive multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) system, where an M-antenna (M is very large) base station (BS) serves K (K > 2) N-antenna (N > 1) users with linear transceivers. Establishing the theoretical foundation of our scheduling schemes, we first investigate the asymptotic sum-rates of this system with both singular value decomposition (SVD) and regularized zero-forcing (RZF) precoders. In particular, we assume that both M and N go to infinity with a bounded ratio to perform the theoretical derivations with random matrix theory (RMT). In addition, the influence of imperfect channel estimation is also considered. Interestingly, the analysis indicates the existence of an optimal number of served users K~* in terms of asymptotic sum-rate, which motivates our low complexity user scheduling schemes. Unlike the conventional schemes with complicated computations and instantaneous channel state information, our user scheduling schemes are based on semi-analytical solutions with only statistic CSI. Simulation results validate our theoretical derivations and show the advantages of our schemes in the massive MU-MIMO system.

Continuous phase modulation (CPM) has many desirable features such as power efficiency and spectrum efficiency. This paper considers continuous phase modulation in massive MIMO system. Especially in cellular wireless system, we can obtain more accurate channel state information in uplink time division duplexing (TDD) transmission via employing different CPM modulation index h. On the basis of that scheme, the method of linear precoding can achieve better performance in the reverse link. Finally, simulated results have verified the proposed system.

The present work focuses on obtaining better Bit Error Rate performance (BER), in precoded Single User-Multiple Input, Multiple Output-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing, SU-MIMO-OFDM systems in downlink through the use of Index Coding IC and a novel optimization procedure to select the Index Coding Matrix (ICM). A discrete model of the MIMO-OFDM system is presented which is efficient in signal generation and subsequent signal detection and identifies parameters that can be optimized, i.e, the optimal choice of the ICM, in order to improve the BER performance of the system.

Massive MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) has been recognized as an efficient solution to improve the spectral efficiency of future communication systems. However, increasing the number of antennas and users goes hand-in-hand with increasing computational complexity. In particular, the precoding design becomes involved since near-optimal precoding, such as regularized-zero forcing (RZF), requires the inversion of a large matrix. In our previous work [1] we proposed to solve this issue in the single-cell case by approximating the matrix inverse by a truncated polynomial expansion (TPE), where the polynomial coefficients are selected for optimal system performance. In this paper, we generalize this technique to multi-cell scenarios. While the optimization of the RZF precoding has, thus far, not been feasible in multi-cell systems, we show that the proposed TPE precoding can be optimized to maximize the weighted max-min fairness. Using simulations, we compare the proposed TPE precoding with RZF and show that our scheme can achieve higher throughput using a TPE order of only 3.

Closed-Form Power Normalization Methods for a Satellite MIMO System

The paper proposes a new set of normalization techniques for precoding/beamforming matrices applicable to broadband multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) satellite systems. The proposed techniques adapt known normalization methods to account for the signal attenuation experienced by users due to the degradation of antenna gain and free space losses towards the edge of the coverage. We use, as an example, an array-fed reflector (AFR) antenna onboard a satellite in geosynchronous orbit (GEO), which provides a favorable trade-off between high-directivity, reconfigurability, and the requirement for digital processing, but suffers from high scan losses away from broadside due to optical aberrations when considered for global coverage applications. Three different precoding/beamforming techniques are employed, namely zero forcing (ZF), minimum mean squared error (MMSE), and matched filtering (MF). Low-complexity power normalization techniques digitally applied after the beamformer are introduced that, in the absence of any atmospheric effects, lead to iso-flux-like characteristics whilst satisfying the power constraint per feed. In comparison with other methods reported in the literature, mainly based on iterative algorithms, the proposed techniques consist in closed-form expressions to provide uniform signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and signal-to-noise plus interference ratio (SNIR) across the users without significant impact on the payload sum rate. Numerical results are presented to comparatively demonstrate the achieved performance in terms of total capacity and distribution of SNR and SNIR at various noise and interference scenarios.

An Efficient Modified Gauss Seidel Precoder for Downlink Massive MIMO Systems

Recently, as the demand for tremendous spectral efficiency has increased, the massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system has attracted attention in the wireless communication system. In massive MIMO, the zero forcing (ZF) precoder provides optimal performance. However, the complexity for process of matrix inversion is burden in terms of practical implementation. Therefore, many researches for approximate inversion of channel matrix have been performed in order to reduce the complexity. The typical linear precoder based on approximate matrix inversion is the Gauss Seidel (GS) precoder. The GS precoder provides the similar precoded signals to ZF precoder with low complexity. However, the GS precoder does not adopt parallel implementation because of inner structure. Consequently, precoder for the GS iterative method spends a lot of times in order to estimate precoded signal. Therefore, this problem makes the GS precoder impractical. In this article, the punctured GS (PGS) is proposed in order to mitigate the problem of parallel operation by modifying inner structure for the GS precoder. However, the performance for the PGS precoder is degraded due to modified inner structure. Therefore, the ordering PGS precoder which performance degradation due to modified inner structure is mitigated is additionally introduced. As a result, although the delay when precoded signal for the PGS precoder is obtained decreases than the GS precoder, the BER performance for the PGS precoder is degraded than the GS precoder. In contrast, the ordering PGS precoder provides improved BER performance with decrease of delay compared with the GS precoder.
