speaker recognition plays a significant role in the field of human computer interaction. In the recent years, several researchers have contributed in this field and have successfully build machine learning models for automatic speaker recognition systems. In this paper, we propose an automatic speaker identification system for qaries (Quran reciter) of Arabic Language. For feature extraction discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and linear predictive coding (LPC) feature extraction techniques were used. Classification was performed by Random Forest (RF). In order to improve the identification accuracy DWT and LPC features were used singly (One at a time) and combined to train RF. Our system showed the best performance when RF was trained with the combination of features. In this case 90.90% recognition accuracy was achieved.

Paper presents a new algorithm proposed to dynamically adapt jitter buffer, used in video transcoding applications. When the video content provider is moving continuously, the wireless network connectivity conditions changes in time. The resulting jitter should be compensated in video transcoder by selecting jitter buffer high enough to compensate all possible jitter variations. The algorithm, proposed in this paper updates the jitter buffer according to current jitter measurements and jitter prediction results in order to reduce the total latency of the video transcoding in live transmissions.

Lag windowing has long been used for the autocorrelation method of linear predictive (LP) analysis to prevent possible instability of the synthesis filter with the obtained coefficients. We have investigated the lag-window shape in terms of the trade-offs between stability and the coding efficiency. On the basis of these investigations, we have devised an adaptive selection scheme in which the window shape selected depends on the periodicity of the signal. This scheme has proven to be effective for LP analysis to enhance the coding efficiency in both time and frequency domains in general. This scheme has thus been included in the speech and audio coding schemes of the newly established 3GPP EVS codec standard.

EOG is a very effective eye movement recording method, which is not only noninvasive, but also can record any eye movements' information. In order to extract some features come form these information contained in EOG automatically, this paper presents a novel EOG feature parameters extraction algorithm. The proposed algorithm includes three main parts. The first is endpoint detection unit which detects the startpoint and endpoint of EOG signals. The second is a preprocessor which consists of band-pass filter, frame blocking procedure and windowing step. The third is feature parameters extracting part which extracts EOG feature by a linear predictive coding model and converts LPC parameters to LPC cepstral (LPCC) coefficients. Finally, the paper gives experimental results.

In this paper, we derived a relationship between linear predictive coding (LPC) coefficients and Immittance Spectral Pairs (ISP) pseudo-cepstrum. In Adaptive Multi-Rate Wideband (AMR-WB) speech codec, ISP parameters were used for quantisation and interpolation. This paper first described the representation of ISP pseudo-cepstrum. ISP pseudo-cepstrum was defined as the inverse z-transform of half natural logarithm of immittance function. References [2] and [3] proposed two kinds of new perceptual weighting filters based on ISP pseudo-cepstrum. Spectral tilt is more pronounced in wideband signals due to the wide dynamic range between low and high frequencies. The proposed filters are helpful for solving this problem. Then we gave the conversion method between ISP pseudo-cepstrum and polynomials cepstrum coefficients. Finally we derived the recursive relations between ISP pseudo-cepstrum and LPC coefficients. There are two methods of converting LPC coefficients to ISP pseudo-cepstrum. The one is directly from LPC coefficients to ISP pseudo-cepstrum. The other is from ISP parameters.

This paper describes a novel approach of fractal modelling and coding of residuals for excitation in the linear predictive coding of speech. This work was motivated by reducing the bit rate to 1200 bps, while maintaining a good quality of speech. linear prediction based speech coders differ primarily in the modelling of the residual. The design trade-off in the modelling of the residual is between quality and bit-rate. In this paper fractal modelling is used to model the residual. We show that fractal modelling reduces the bit-rate while maintaining quality. A 6 kbps speech coder was implemented using the piecewise self-affine fractal model. The new coder has a signal-to-noise ratio of 10.9 dB. An informal subjective measure found the perceptual quality to be comparable to that of the 13 kbps GSM coder.

In this paper we present a speech representation based on the linear predictive coding of the Zero Phase version of the signal (ZP-LPC) and its robustness in presence of additive noise for robust formant estimation. Two representations are proposed for using in the frequency candidate proposition stage of the formant tracking algorithm: 1) the roots of ZP-LPC and 2) the peaks of its group delay function (GDF). Both of them are studied and evaluated in noisy environments with a synthetic dataset to demonstrate their robustness. Proposed representations are then used in a formant tracking experiment with a speech database. A beam search algorithm is used for selecting the best candidates as formant. Results show that our method outperforms related techniques in noisy test configurations and is a good fit for use in applications that have to work in noisy environments.

Comparison of speech parameterization techniques for the classification of speech disfluencies

Stuttering assessment through the manual classification of speech disfluencies is subjective, inconsistent, time-consuming, and prone to error. The aim of this paper is to compare the effectiveness of the 3 speech feature extraction methods, mel-frequency cepstral coefficients, linear predictive coding (LPC)-based cepstral parameters, and perceptual linear predictive (PLP) analysis, for classifying 2 types of speech disfluencies, repetition and prolongation, from recorded disfluent speech samples. Three different classifiers, the k-nearest neighbor classifier, linear discriminant analysis-based classifier, and support vector machine, are employed for the classification of speech disfluencies. Speech samples are taken from the University College London Archive of Stuttered Speech and stuttered events are identified through manual segmentation. A 10-fold cross-validation method is used for testing the reliability of the classifier results. The effect of the 2 parameters (LPC order and frame length) in the LPC- and PLP-based methods on the classification results is also investigated. The experimental results reveal that the proposed method can be used to help speech language pathologists in classifying speech disfluencies.

Spatially-coupled communication system for the correlated erasure channel

Low implementation complexity, low delay and close-to-optimal performance over a wide variety of channels are some of the advantages of spatially-coupled low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. However, the error performance of the sliding window decoding scheme that is used to decode these codes is considerably degraded over channels with memory, such as the correlated erasure channel. Employing a block interleaver to encounter this situation is not always a viable option, since it introduces a large amount of delay and cancels out the low-delay property of the sliding window decoder. Another way to reduce the effects of erasure bursts is to construct a more robust code ensemble by presenting additional code design rules. However, this approach results in additional constraints on the already complicated code construction process. The authors propose a novel communication system that combats the effects of the erasure bursts through the use of a convolutional interleaver. The proposed system combines the inherent convolutional nature of the spatially-coupled LDPC codes with that of a convolutional interleaver to achieve very low overall delay. The performance of the proposed approach is analysed using the density evolution technique and the performance improvement is demonstrated as a function of the interleaving delay via computer simulations.

Two time slots distributed time-reversal space-time block coding for single-carrier block transmissions

Distributed space-time block coding (STBC) is a promising technique for future broadband wireless communication system, because of its substantially improving the reliability of wireless channel by exploiting cooperative spatial diversity. In this study, the authors propose a novel two time slots distributed time-reversal STBC scheme for amplify-and-forward relay-assisted single-carrier (SC) block transmissions over frequency-selective fading channel. They first exploit the discrete Fourier transform extended properties to construct a linear precoding matrix. They then employ a low-complexity suboptimal frequency domain decision feedback equalisation (FD-DFE) to collect potential multipath diversity at high signal-to-noise ratio. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme provides better performance than the conventional distributed SC-STBC scheme with minimum-mean-square error FD linear equalisation.
