Exploring factors influencing delayed first antibiotic treatment for suspected early-onset sepsis in preterm newborns: a study before quality improvement initiative

Background Early-onset sepsis (EOS) is a serious illness that affects preterm newborns, and delayed antibiotic initiation may increase the risk of adverse outcomes. Purpose The objective of this study was to examine the present time of antibiotic administration in preterm infants with suspected EOS and the factors that contribute to delayed antibiotic initiation. Methods In this retrospective study in China, a total of 82 early preterm infants with suspected EOS between December 2021 and March 2023 were included. The study utilized a linear regression analytical approach to identify independent factors that contribute to delayed antibiotic administration. Results The mean gestational age and birth weight of the study population were 29.1 +/- 1.4 weeks and 1265.7 +/- 176.8 g, respectively. The median time of initial antibiotic administration was 3.8 (3.1-5.0) hours. linear regression revealed that severe respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) (beta = 0.07, P = 0.013), penicillin skin test (PST) timing (beta = 0.06, P < 0.001) and medical order timing (beta = 0.04, P = 0.017) were significantly associated with the initial timing of antibiotic administration. Conclusions There is an evident delay in antibiotic administration in preterm infants with suspected EOS in our unit. Severe RDS, PST postponement and delayed medical orders were found to be associated with the delayed use of antibiotics, which will be helpful for quality improvement efforts in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Simple Calibration and Test of K-Type Wire Thermocouple

In order to address the issues of high calibration cost, complex procedures, and large errors associated withexisting methods for calibrating thin film thermocouples, this study presents a novel approach for calibrating K-type thin film thermocouples in a static environment to mitigate the aforementioned problems and enhance accuracy. Firstly, the temperature measurement principle and key structure of thin film thermocouples are introduced, followed by the construction of a static calibration platform specifically designed for these devices. Subsequently, the working principle of this platform is described in detail. Several experiments are conducted to measure the thermopower of fixed points on thin film thermocouples at different temperatures. Finally, experimental data is imported into Origin and SPASS software for fitting analysis, enabling mathematical discussions on the linear relationship between temperature and thermoelectric power. The results demonstrate that employing a simulation environment platform significantly reduces calibration costs while improving efficiency and accuracy.

Noise level estimation based on eigenvalue learning

At present, many algorithms use a single minimum eigenvalue to estimate the real noise level, and the levels estimated by these algorithms have been proven to be less than the real noise levels, this is known as underestimation. To address this problem, this paper uses multiple eigenvalues to obtain the relationship between eigenvalues and the real noise level through sample training, calculates the learning coefficients for different noise levels in the relationship expression by linear fitting, and then inputs the learning coefficients into the noise image for noise level estimation. Experiments demonstrate that the algorithm proposed in this paper can significantly improve the underestimation problem of the traditional algorithm and has better estimation accuracy for various noise levels in gray images, color images, and texture images of various scenes.

Development of a Method for Estimating Topology and Line Impedance of Distribution Networks

This study presents a method for estimating distribution network topology based on three-phase symmetric component transformation and a sliding window algorithm. Owing to the grid connection of various energy sources, the demand for precise grid voltage control and management is increasing. Grid information such as network topology and line impedance is required for effective voltage control. Although several related studies have been conducted, most existing methods determine the network topology only based on the correlation coefficient between the measured voltages and the linear circuit equation assuming single-phase or system balanced conditions. Therefore, these methods are not applicable in unbalanced conditions and cause poor estimation for real networks. In this study, we propose a new method for estimating network topology and line parameters using only positive sequence components of measurement data based on the symmetrical components method, which overcomes the limitations of the existing methods. To verify the proposed method, we performed an estimation of the topology and line parameters of the modified IEEE 15 system reflecting unbalanced conditions in a case study.

Association of nuclear cataract prevalence with UV radiation and heat load in lens of older people -five city study-

Epidemiological studies have reported that the frequency of nuclear cataracts (NUCs) is high among the elderly and in tropical countries. Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation and lens temperature are considered as key physical contributors, although their precise quantification is difficult. The aim of this study is to investigate the association of NUC prevalence with UV irradiation and heat load. First, we assessed the lens temperature using thermodynamic modeling considering the thermophysiological response. We then conducted a multivariate linear regression analysis for the epidemiological analysis of NUC prevalence across five cities. A strong correlation was observed between NUC prevalence and the combined effects of UV irradiation and cumulative equivalent minutes at 43 degrees C (CEM43 degrees C) derived from the computed lens temperature (adjusted R-2 = 0.933, p < 0.0001). Heat load significantly contributed to the prevalence at 52%, surpassing the contributions of UV irradiation (31%) and the decline in DNA repair capacity in the lens (17%). These results suggested that both UV radiation and heat load are associated with NUC, with heat load contributing more. Our findings provided important implications for future interventions, particularly in the context of global warming.

A retrospective study of air quality associated with teratogenic pathogen screening in women of reproductive age in southern China

Adverse pregnancy outcomes are associated with a poor ambient atmospheric environment. Infections by teratogenic pathogens such as cytomegalovirus (CMV) and herpes simplex virus (HSV) are the main cause of the worse pregnant outcomes. However, environmental factors governing these infections are uncertain and epidemiological studies are limited. An epidemiological study on relationships between air pollutants and antibodies against teratogenic pathogens will be explored. In total, 5475 women of childbearing age were enrolled in the study between January 2018 and December 2019 in a hospital in Shantou, China. Antibodies against pathogens were measured by electrochemical luminescence. Everyday air quality data, concerning particulate matter (PM), sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and other parameters, were acquired from a government web site, and the relationships between them were evaluated with nonparametric and multivariate linear regression analyses. Not only titers of herpes simplex virus HSV(I+II) IgGs in spring, but also titers of cytomegalovirus IgG (CMV IgG) and HSV I IgG in autumn, both had positive associations with concentrations of SO2. When PM2.5 or PM10 exposure is elevated, HSV(I+II) IgGs, TOX IgM should be paid more attention in spring or summer. Air pollution may be crucial for teratogenic pathogen infections. This study highlights air pollution could increase the risk of teratogenic pathogen infection, implying stronger measures should be taken to protect air environment and screenings of associated antibody should be strengthened in different season.

Many economic variables are interdependent, restrictive, and influential. Finding the law of change between economic variables and influencing factors and expressing this law in mathematical expressions will bring great convenience to forecasting. A statistical analysis method that uses mathematical equations to determine the quantitative relationship between two or more variables. This is more commonly used when estimating and predicting the value of the dependent variable. The article analyzes the data on the National Bureau of Statistics website and uses the method of multiple linear regression to fit the graphs of economic indicators. Finally, the forecast data is analyzed in detail. We evaluated the modeling method of the prediction model and the credibility of the prediction data from a practical level.

Evaluation Method of Physical Education Students' Mental Health based on Multi-source and Heterogeneous Data

enhance the ability to evaluate the mental health status of physical education students, a method of evaluating the mental well-being state of physical education students based on multi-source heterogeneous data mining is proposed. A fuzzy information detection model of multi-source heterogeneous data on the mental health status of physical education students is constructed, with four factors as dependent variables: compulsion, interpersonal sensitivity, hostility, and depression. Combined with the hierarchical index parameter detection and analysis method, the statistical analysis of multisource heterogeneous info is accomplished. Based on the factor extraction outcomes of multi-source heterogeneous info, combined with the subspace heterogeneous fusion method, an estimated parameter feature clustering model is established. Combining the results of characteristic distributed clustering and linear regression analysis, the psychological well-being state evaluation of physical education students is realized. The results of empirical analysis show that this method has higher accuracy and better feature resolution in the evaluation of the mental wellbeing state of physical education students, which improves the reliability and confidence level of the assessment of the mental well-being status of physical education students.

Many per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) studies in environmental media have been conducted in heavily industrialized and densely populated areas. However, there has been limited research on legacy and emerging PFAS contamination in cold and arid regions. In the present study, we investigated the concentrations of 30 PFAS compounds in the surface water and sediment of Hulun Lake and its inflowing rivers. The main components in water were short chain perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs) in both Hulun Lake (33.57 %) and its inflowing rivers (30.47 %). However, long chain perfluoroalkane sulfonates (PFSAs) and long chain PFCAs accounted for more than half of the total PFAS content in sediment. Total PFAS concentrations (& sum;(30)PFAS) ranged from 3.67 to 8.84 ng/L in water, and 0.97-1.73 mu g/kg in sediment. Significant spatial differences were apparent between Hulun Lake and its inflowing rivers in both water and sediment samples. Source apportionment revealed that wastewater, aqueous film forming foams, textiles and paper-based food packaging, and paper products and cosmetics were the primary sources of PFAS. The partitioning coefficients of PFCAs were dependent on the carbon chain length. Temperature, conductivity, pH, salinity, chemical oxygen demand, total phosphorus (TP), total nitrogen (TN), As, and oxidation-reduction potential were the main influencing factors in water. Heavy metals (Co, Pb, Cu, Ni, Hg, Cd, and As), TP, salinity, and pH were positively correlated with the PFAS concentration in sediment. Furthermore, Hailar River contributed the majority (99.74 %, similar to 15.05 kg/year) of the PFAS mass flux. This is the first study showing PFAS contamination in Hulun Lake and the results suggest that long term monitoring is needed for the effective control of PFAS pollution in this typical cold and arid region of China. Research on the application of traditional culture in landscape design

In order to make the landscape design concept break through the traditional barriers and achieve diversification and nationalized development, this paper proposes a landscape design model that integrates traditional culture to effectively integrate traditional culture and landscape design. First use active adaptation technology to test the algorithm convergence ability, and then sample the basic situation of landscape design, reconstruct the collected information, construct the characteristic information flow, and use the linear regression analysis model and the Internet of Things technology to construct the distribution The structure model is used to analyze its characteristics. Then, by introducing the nonlinear dynamic inertia weight coefficient, according to the traditional particle swarm algorithm, the optimized particle swarm algorithm is proposed, and its robustness is tested, the error is analyzed, and the error values are all less than ***, the model in this paper is experimentally tested in a quantitative way. The results show that the traditional culture and landscape design fusion model proposed in this paper has a reasonable error value and has practical application significance.
