This paper presents an investigation of mutual coupling effect among the array elements in a symmetric linear array antenna with the aim of reducing the side lobe level and the null control for the radiation pattern synthesis using BAT Algorithm. PSO and DE optimization techniques are also adopted for the sake of comparison and to prove the superiority of BAT algorithm based design. Reduced side lobe level and null control, with and without considering the mutual coupling effect in the cost function have been achieved by an optimum perturbation of the array elements' current excitation amplitude weights and the inter-element spacing among the array elements. The results are also compared with those of a uniform reference array having equal number of elements with lambda/2 inter-element spacing. The approach proposed in this paper is a generic one and can be easily applied to any type of symmetrical linear arrays having any number of elements. Five different design examples are presented and their performances are studied to illustrate the capability of BAT algorithm based approach over those of PSO and DE.

Wideband Microstrip Comb-Line linear array antenna Using Stubbed-Element Technique for High Sidelobe Suppression

This paper presents a novel wideband microstrip comb-line linear array antenna using end feeding developed in the millimeter-wave. The proposed antenna is designed for 28 GHz and has 12 elements. The reflection-canceling slit structure technique is adopted to develop a broadside beam with low reflections at the input. The proposed array is designed using stub-studded radiating elements that create more resonances to broaden the impedance bandwidth. The structure is a novel comb-line linear array antenna with stub-studded radiating elements and was developed by applying stubs to eight of the radiating elements of the array to increase the input impedance bandwidth. This helps to attain a wideband linear array antenna on a single dielectric substrate, which conventionally has a narrow bandwidth. The input impedance bandwidth is from 23.5 to 33.11 GHz, which is equivalent to a bandwidth of 33.95%. The radiation pattern bandwidth is from 27.5 to 29.25 GHz for sidelobe levels of below -20 dB equivalent to a bandwidth of 6.167%. The proposed antenna array presents features such as a simple structure with low fabrication cost and an enhanced impedance bandwidth with high sidelobe suppression. The feasibility of the proposed antenna array was evaluated by simulation and measurement in the millimeter-wave band.

In this paper, the pattern nulling of a linear array for interference cancellation is derived by phase-only perturbations using memetic algorithms (MAs). The MAs uses improvement procedures which is obtained by incorporating local search into the genetic algorithms. It is proposed to improve the search ability of,genetic algorithms. MA is a kind of an improved type of the traditional genetic algorithms. By using local search procedure, it can avoid the shortcoming of the traditional genetic algorithms, whose termination criteria are set up by using the trial and error method. The MA is applied to find the pattern nulling of the proposed adaptive antenna. This design for radiation pattern nulling of an adaptive antenna can suppress interference by placing a null at the direction of the interfering source, i.e. to increase the signal to interference ratio. This proposed method is that an innovative adaptive antenna optimization technique is also able to solve the multipath problem which exists in practical wireless communication systems. Two examples are provided to justify the proposed phase-only perturbations approach based on MAs. Computer simulation results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Smart antenna refers to any type of antenna arrays combined with signal processor components which can adjust its own beam pattern in order to emphasize oil the signal of interest and minimizing the interference signal. The accurate estimation of direction of interest which is also known as Direction of Arrival (DOA) of the incident signals is very significant to produce beam from antenna. There are several algorithms those have the ability in calculating the DOA of the incidents signals. In this paper an Adaptive antenna is applied by using the most frequent used algorithm, Estimation of signal Parameters via Rotational Invariance Technique (ESPRIT) to obtain the Direction of Arrival (DOA) of any incident signals. The exact number of samples and elements used is the most important parameter in the algorithms in order to sustain the accuracy of the direction of arrival of the incident signals. The optimization was done by running the program in Cellular mobile environments. The data from the optimization was evaluated using SPSS in evaluating the performance of the algorithm.

This paper deals with the design of a dualcircularly polarized (CP) linear array antenna based on gap waveguide for 60 GHz band. The radiating array is based on dual-slot fed cavities with septum polarizers to achieve both left hand circular polarization (LHCP) and the right hand circular polarization (RHCP) radiations. The simulated input reflection coefficient and gain of the proposed linear array antenna are below -10 dB and higher than 18.1 dB from 58 to 62 GHz, respectively. Also, the AR is less than 3 dB over the operating bandwidth.

In this paper, we present a method of using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to optimize the element spacings and lengths of mutually coupled linear array antenna (LAA) to have maximum Directivity (D) and minimum Half Power Beam Width (HPBW). Two different design structures of LAA are considered comprising of six and fifteen element dipoles. Simulation and result verification of the design array are done by using MATLAB (TM) and MININEC respectively. To evaluate performance of the designed antenna a result comparison is made between our obtained results and those of different structures of array antennas having different number of elements as found from previously published results.

Different properties of two operation modes for cruise missile borne side looking instantaneous imaging synthetic aperture radar with linear array antenna along flight track were investigated. Its theoretical azimuth resolution was induced and a novel imaging algorithm called compound range-doppler algorithm was proposed. The imaging procedure was given and images were gained with both ECS and compound range-doppler algorithm in the end. The feasibility and validity of compound range-doppler algorithm were confirmed.

This paper presents the performance analysis of five direction of arrival estimation algorithms namely Bartlett, Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR), linear Prediction and MUSIC DOA Estimates. We present the description, comparison and the performance and resolution analyses of these algorithms. Sensitivity to various perturbations and the effect of parameters related to the design of the sensor array itself such as the number of array elements and their spacing are also investigated. The analysis is based on linear array antenna and the calculation of the pseudospectra function of the estimation algorithms. Matlab is used for simulating the algorithms.

In this paper, two different structure six elements and fifteen elements) of linear array antenna are designed considering mutual coupling among all the elements. Popular Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) method is used to optimize the Directivity (D) and Half Power Beam Width (HPBW) by varying the input design parameters, length of the elements and spacing between them. Simulation is performed by MATLAB (7.8.0) and verified by MININEC (14.0). Then the obtained Directivity and HPBW of respective linear array antennas are compared with Yagi-Uda antennas having same number of elements, optimized with different evolutional optimization techniques, from the previously published results, to evaluate the performance of the linear array antenna.

In this paper, a very simple and powerful method for the synthesis of linear array antenna is proposed. This method ensures the desired level of side lobe level (SLL) along with the minimum desired value of first null beam width (FNBW). Method includes finding a set of non-uniform amplitude excitation using particle swarm optimization (PSO) and finding the appropriate value of uniform element spacing for the linear array, which qualifies the desired value of SLL and provides minimum desired FNBW value. PSO algorithm is a high-performance algorithm capable of solving general N-dimensional, linear and nonlinear optimization problems. Work in this paper includes, two-step method for getting the fixed value of SLL and minimum desired FNBW. In the first step, PSO is used for optimizing both SLL and FNBW, but the main emphasis is given for the desired SLL requirement to achieve. In the second step, SLL remains almost constant but FNBW is minimized to archive the desired value or even below the desired value of FNBW. The simulation results have shown that this technique is able to find the desired value of SLL with the very narrow FNBW.
