Wideband Vertically Polarized Endfire Metasurface antenna Fed by Tightly Coupled Monopole Probe array

In this article, we proposed a wideband and vertically polarized endfire 2-D tapered metasurface (MS) antenna, which is fed by a tightly coupled monopole probe array (TCMPA). The TCMPA is a configuration consisting of a top-loaded short vertical monopole within a printed circuit board (PCB) stack between two ground planes. When appropriately designed, it exhibits a wideband characteristic by exploiting the operation principle of the tightly coupled dipole array (TCDA), which is well-suited for thin aperture-sized fifth-generation (5G) millimeter-wave (mmWave) antennas. In addition, the MS-based radiating structure was investigated through a dispersion diagram, which is imperative for impedance matching to the thin TCMPA in a PCB stack. A wideband operation of the TCMPA with the MS was demonstrated. A significant advantage of this is that the wideband operation of a very thin endfire antenna can be achieved using only a PCB: it was shown that the thickness of the proposed array is 0.06. low at the lowest operating frequency. The impedance matching bandwidth of 1 x 4 array is 22.5-42.1 GHz (60.7%) for uniform excitation and 24.3-42.1 GHz (53.6%) for a scan angle of 45 degrees. Experimental results, including total active reflection coefficient (TARC), realized array gain, and radiation pattern, were compared with simulated results, which were in good agreement. Finally, the comparative advantages of the proposed array were demonstrated compared to state-of-the-art 5G endfire linear array antennas.

Easy installation CPW-fed technique for fan-beam array antenna using grounded reflector for wireless applications

A fan-beam linear array antenna employing a non-parasitic grounded reflector, a new Coplanar Waveguide (CPW)-fed network, and Grounded Coplanar Waveguide (GCPW) radiation elements is presented. This fan-beam antenna is achieved using a four-element conventional non-planar monopole integrated with CPW line, which is perpendicularly connected to CPW feed network. In addition, the grounded reflector is vertically connected to the ground part of CPW feed network. These three main parts together produce a fan-beam antenna that can satisfy beneficial input impedance, radiation patterns, and gain bandwidth requirements in the frequency range 3.2-3.66GHz. This array covers applications of 3.3 and 3.5GHz WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) operating bands. Also, combining a non-planar GCPW monopole antenna as an array with a non-parasitic grounded reflector and CPW feed network provides designers with an advantageous fan-beam pattern to be generated. In addition, the reflector height is reduced to half by the concept of image theory. As a consequence, the spatial dimension of the antenna will be reduced. Therefore, this combination results in a cheap, lightweight, and easy installing non-planar printed array antenna at high frequency bands. Comparisons are made between results obtained with and without a reflector array antenna.

A simple random frequency modulation noise compensation scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems in a multipath fading environment is presented. A linear array antenna is set up on the vehicle to 'fix' the receiving point during the observation period. Computer simulation results show that the proposed scheme can mitigate performance degradation due to random FM noise.

Design and implementation of electromagnetic band-gap embedded antenna for vehicle-to-everything communications in vehicular systems

We proposed a novel electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) cell-embedded antenna structure for reducing the interference that radiates at the antenna edge in wireless access in vehicular environment (WAVE) communication systems for vehicle-to-everything communications. To suppress the radiation of surface waves from the ground plane and vehicle, EBG cells were inserted between micropatch arrays. A simulation was also performed to determine the optimum EBG cell structure located above the ground plane in a conformal linear microstrip patch array antenna. The characteristics such as return loss, peak gain, and radiation patterns obtained using the fabricated EBG cell-embedded antenna were superior to those obtained without the EBG cells. A return loss of 35.14 dB, peak gain of 10.15 dBi at 80 degrees, and improvement of 2.037 dB max at the field of view in the radiation beam patterns were obtained using the proposed WAVE antenna.

An optimal LAA subsystem designed using Gravitational Search Algorithm

A linear array antenna (LAA), a subsystem of a Wireless Communication System (WCS), with 12 number of dipole elements are optimally designed using Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA). GSA being one of the suitable optimisation algorithms, used to optimise many design parameters of this subsystem to get a number of desired performance parameters using a simple weighted sum type multi-objective function. The LAA subsystem is designed here, mainly to realise high directivity, high front-to-maximum-sidelobe-level, and low half power beam width for WCS application at ultra high frequency. The LAA designed using GSA is also validated using MININEC for transparency. The successful optimal design approaches, application, and comparative study of this system with an un-optimised system presented here can also be extended to other antennas. The paper describes a method to phase-steer a linear array antenna to a discrete number of directions by rearranging the sequence of phase cables that are connected to each array element. The phase cables must be precut to specific lengths which are evaluated. The idea is applied to the EISCAT parabolic cylinder antenna in Tromsø Norway.

We estimate a radiation pattern of a linear array antenna from 1D electric current distribution by approximating the antenna's radiation directivity by a series of small dipole elements and calculating the sum of radiations from them. As a result, we confirm that the estimation on the dipole array antenna is accurate and good pattern on the patch array antenna is obtained by removing the effect of the edges of the ground plane of the antenna. We also show that estimation results are obtained in high accuracy by setting the sampling interval l <= lambda/28 on the all antennas under test.

In this paper, we propose a system for detection of the missing people employing UAV which is able to move quickly and has a wide view from the air in the disaster area. However, an airplane type UAV does not always have a stable flight due to strong wind, rolling, and pitching. In order to detect and to respond the missing people promptly using the UAV, we propose the system which uses a phased array antenna and an angle detector. To implement the system, we assemble the phased array antenna and carry out an experiment to measure the characteristics of directivity, the directivity control characteristics, the return loss of the antenna, and the received power level to compare using and not using the phased array antenna in terms of efficiency and functionality. The experiment results show that the proposed system increase the received power level by adjusting the directivity of the antennas with short delay time. The results also confirm that the proposed system is practical in decreasing victims of disasters.

Multiple flat beams have an extensive range of applications in mobile and wireless communications. They facilitate many users to connect simultaneously. Multiple beam pattern can be produced utilizing both conventional and modern optimization techniques. Teaching learning based optimization and Firefly are applied for Multibeam purpose in this paper. Multibeam with a beamwidth of 0.2 (in U = sin.) each are produced. In the present work, unsymmetric array antenna is utilized to generate the Multibeam pattern. The beams are well-formed, and they are observed to be optimized. The patterns are presented in U domain. The resultant distribution of antenna parameters is found, with the goal that they can be used directly in array antenna design.

A continuous-switching type array antenna receiver has been proposed in order to reduce the deterioration due to fast-fading channel variations and improve communication performance. The receive antennas are placed in a linear array, and by sequentially switching the elements in the opposite direction to the direction of the train travel, it has been possible to fix the signal receiving point virtually. Through the development of a scale-model experiment of high-speed movement using the prototype antenna, in this paper we show that it is possible through optimized antenna element selection and appropriate signal processing to reduce the fading rate and improve the performance of an OFDM system. A software simulation based on the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) physical layer parameters was made and data transmitted at RF in a 5 MHz bandwidth with symbol rate appropriately scaled to simulate a range of fading speeds. The receive antenna array consisting of eight elements traverses a track at a virtual speed of 180 km/h and the error rate performances with and without switching are compared.
