With the increased use of embedded platforms powered by linux, battery life has become one of the central focuses in research and innovation. Towards this, dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) has emerged as a powerful technique. However, reinforcement learning-based hybrid DVFS techniques for Mixed Task sets are hardly investigated, considering linux operating systems targeted on embedded platforms. This paper illustrates an experimental analysis of an energy reduction technique using hybrid learning-based DVFS methodology for Mixed Task sets on linux Embedded Platforms with ARM and Intel architectures. We analyze the hybrid DVFS approach using reinforcement learning to handle a Mixed Task set on linux platforms and evaluate the algorithms on various real-time devices. Results show that we can successfully apply the extended hybrid DVFS technique on real-time linux embedded platforms, i.e., Dell Laptop, Raspberry Pi, and Beagle Bone Platform, all focusing on energy saving. Over 3% energy savings can be achieved for a standard real-time scheduling mechanism without any penalty in application throughput. We believe that our implementation might potentially lead to a number of innovative applications that use Learning-based DVFS algorithms targeted on linux real embedded hardware.

In this paper, a novel approach for digital image chaotic communication via FPGA embedded Ethernet transmission is proposed. Based on Euler algorithm and variable ratio expansion transformation, by C language programming under the linux operating system, the continuous time 8-scroll Chua system is converted to the discrete sequence used to encrypt and decrypt image on the FPGA-based platform. According to the principle of driving-response synchronization, a scheme for chaotic communication of a 512x512BMP static color image is implemented via embedded Ethernet transmission on the FPGA-based platform with XUP Virtex-II Pro chip. Moreover, the system design, software simulation and hardware implementation results are also given.

A smart home control system could link independent electric appliances together 'intelligently' and provide comprehensive, fast and smooth exchange of information. This system gives people real-time information control, which improves their life quality. In this study, an embedded smart home system based on socket network connections was designed using ARM9 development board and embedded linux operating system. This system could control all the subsystems that are related with home life, such as light control and sound control. Based on C/S structure, the designed smart home system has rich hardware and software resources, low cost and low power consumption, as well as easy expansion, update and maintenance. This system has practical values.

Login access control refers to securing the entry point to a computing system. The login system is responsible for this service and must provide a number of tasks, the main task being that of user authentication. Traditionally, the authentication in linux and other operating systems is achieved through password verification. This research focused on overcoming the vulnerabilities of password verification, which has been identified as the greatest gap in computer security, through the development of a biometric (facial recognition) login system. The application of biometrics, the automated use of physiological or behavioral characteristics to determine or verify identity, was applied via the Eigenface algorithm successfully in this research, resulting in a functional prototype biometric login system for linux.

For complex parts of high speed, high precision machining demands, five -axis CNC system is studied, on the analysis of application of the embedded technology in CNC system, put forward a kind of new type of five-axis CNC system. The design utilizes an embedded multi-processor ideology to be S3C2410 processor as hardware core and motion control chips MCX314 as Secondary processor, the consistency problem of multi-processor communication is solved by a combination of bus and interrupt mechanism. Focus on the implementation of MCX314 driver and complete design of MCX314 driver in the linux system. The address of two MCX314 motion control cards is completed by minor device number. Its practice indicated the method is correct and feasible, the program is stable and reliable.

In this project, we discuss the design, development, and use of a novel multi-user Virtual Reality (VR) Environment for drone control operations to allow for collaborative control of drones and drone swarms. This environment is designed to enable users wearing an Oculus Rift headset, integrated with LeapMotion controls to render and track a single or multiple physical drone(s) in a virtualized environment. The users can interact with the virtual drone(s) and issue commands which are then translated into control commands to and physical actions of a real drone(s). Commands include selecting/de-selecting drones, take-off and landing, and defining pre-determined flight path(s) for the drone(s) to follow. In this effort, we have successfully demonstrated the functionality of this design through various experiments, including those in which a single user is able to command single and multiple drones, as well as others wherein control of drones are transferred between two simulated users from within the VR space.

Writing correct parallel software for modern multiprocessor systems-on-chip (MPSoCs) is a complicated task. Programmers can rarely anticipate all possible external and internal interactions in complex concurrent systems. Concurrency bugs originating from races and improper synchronization are difficult to understand and reproduce. Furthermore, traditional debug and verification practices for embedded systems lack support to address this issue efficiently. For instance, programmers still need to step through several executions until finding a buggy state or analyze complex traces, which results in productivity losses. This paper proposes a new debug approach for MPSoCs that combines dynamic analysis and the benefits of virtual platforms. All in all, it (i) enables automatic exploration of SW behavior, (ii) identifies problematic concurrent interactions, (iii) provokes possibly erroneous executions and, ultimately, (iv) detects concurrency bugs. The approach is demonstrated on an industrial-strength virtual platform with a full linux operating system and real-world parallel benchmarks.

In this paper, a novel approach for digital image encryption and decryption via embedded FPGA Ethernet transmission is proposed. Taking multi-wing butterfly chaotic attractor as an example, based on Euler algorithm and variable ratio expansion transformation, by programming C language under the linux operating system, the continuous time chaotic system is converted to the discrete chaotic system and the digital chaotic sequence is generated as image encryption and decryption on the embedded FPGA-based platform. According to the principle of driving-response synchronization, a scheme for chaotic secure communication of a 512x512BMP static color image is implemented via Ethernet transmission on the embedded FPGA platform with XUP Virtex-II Pro chip. Moreover, the system design, software simulation and hardware implementation results are also given.
