Damage localization in composite plates using canonical polyadic decomposition of Lamb wave difference signals tensor

Monitoring in real-time and autonomously the health state of aeronautic structures is referred to as Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) and is a process decomposed in four steps: damage detection, localization, classification, and quantification. Structures under study are here composite structures representative of aeronautic applications and the focus is put on the localization step of the SHM process. The fact that SHM data are naturally three-way tensors is here investigated for this purpose. It is demonstrated that under classical assumptions regarding wave propagation, the canonical polyadic decomposition of rank 2 of the tensor built from the phase of the difference signals between a healthy and damaged states provides direct access to the distances between the piezoelectric elements and the damage. This property is used here to propose an original and robust tensor-based damage localization algorithm. This algorithm is successfully validated on experimental data coming from composite plates with mounted piezoelectric elements and compared with a classical localization algorithm based on triangulation. © 2018

Three-dimensional localization of thin-walled sheet metal parts for robotic assembly

This article presents a technical demonstration of a system for determining the threedimensional spatial location of complexly shaped, thin-walled sheet metal parts grasped by robots during assembly. For successful part assembly, the precise location of grasped parts (essential for successful mating of parts) must be achieved. A localization system is implemented to determine the accurate position and orientation of a sheet metal part that has been picked up by a robot from an arbitrary location. The proposed localization system employs a novel sensing method, utilizing laser-based proximity and edge detectors, to extract the part feature data in real time. These geometrical feature data are incorporated into an existing localization algorithm, which is based on the singular value decomposition formulation of the part localization problem. The sensing method is particularly effective in measuring 3-D feature geometry (i.e., thin edges) of sheet metal parts. An experimental single-robot test bed has been developed to demonstrate the feasibility of the part localization concept for a single sheet metal part. The experimental results obtained from the test bed demonstrate that the system can be effectively used for the localization of thin-walled sheet metal parts. (C) 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

localization is an essential technology in the application of wireless sensor network. As a range-free localization algorithm, DV-Hop works well in dense and isotropic networks, but not much in irregular and sparse topologies, especially in the big curvature of shortest path case. In this paper, location information beyond the communication range was obtained by means of variable transmission power of enhanced nodes. Besides, three schemes was proposed to meet the need of different scenarios. Moreover, the simulation results validate that our method can improve position accuracy about 20% and ameliorate the performance of DV-Hop in irregular scenario.

High accuracy, low computational cost and infrequent information exchange are three basic requirements for distributed localization algorithm in sensor networks. In this paper, we first propose an optimized triangulation heuristics to locate neighbor nodes in an optimal sequence such that the probability of wrong location selection can be minimized and localization accuracy can be improved to certain extent. Next, the available distributed localization algorithm is improved by introducing Confidence Index, a metric which helps set up the best shortest path for locating remote sensor nodes. Simulation results show that the method can give satisfactory performance without excessive computational and communication costs.

Currently, in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), the main idea in most localization algorithms has been that a mobile anchor node, e. g., GPS-equipped (Global Positioning System) nodes, broadcasts its coordinates to locate unknown nodes. In this case, a basic problem is the path planning of the mobile anchor node which should move along the trajectory to minimize the localization error and locate the unknown nodes. In this paper, we propose a localization algorithm with a Mobile Anchor node based on Trilateration (LMAT). LMAT algorithm uses a mobile anchor node to move according to the equilateral triangle trajectory in deployment area. Simulation results show that the performance of our LMAT algorithm is better than that of other similar algorithms, e. g., SPIRAL, SCAN, DOUBLE SCAN and HILBERT algorithms.

localization is a vital foundation work in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). Almost all of location algorithms at present need the position information of reference nodes to locate the unknown nodes. But most of algorithms assume an idealistic radio propagation model that is far from the reality. This will lead to obvious difference compared with real localization of WSN. In this paper we investigate the impact of radio irregularity on the localization algorithms performance in WSN. We introduce the Radio Irregularity Model (RIM) which is established upon empirical data. With this model, this paper analyzes the impact of radio irregularity on localization algorithms. We compare three typical coarse-grained localization algorithms: APIT, Centroid and DV-HOP in simulated realistic settings. Our experimental results show that radio irregularity has a significant impact on some main evaluation aspects of localization algorithms. Some interesting phenomena is worthy of further study.

This paper introduced the development course of wireless sensor network in recent years, and analyzed basic principles of the node localization, and thoroughly discussed typical algorithms of the node localization. Then, aiming at the shortage of three-dimensional localization algorithm, on the basis of number of beacons within the unknown node communication range, the space vector model is built for localization. A new type of three-dimensional localization mechanism in wireless sensor networks is proposed. Simultaneously, the basic principle of localization algorithm and implementation method in simulation environment of NS2 and MATLAB are also given. Simulation results show that the algorithm improves the accuracy of node localization and reduces the impact of algorithm positioning error by communication radius and density of beacons.

This paper describes the principle of passive sound localization and sound localization algorithm based on a four-element array example discussed in the wind for positioning of the passive voice, and to amend their ways, this paper focuses on the measurement of the target signal in the delay algorithm based on simulation, and wind for passive localization impact and how to modify the impact, given the correction formula, and by computer simulation, the simulation calculated the azimuth error of the table can see, after following a marked improvement in azimuth, so as to achieve the effect of the amendments to improve the positioning accuracy.

Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) is an identification technique for storing and transferring data and it is applied for identifying and tracking tags. Our study focus on RFID tags localization by using only mobile readers without the inclusion of static readers, helps to avoid pre-deploying of static readers. We are based only on connectivity information for achieving the goal of robust 3D localization method. The benefits of this work are: an optimized system cost, a scalable system with no need of further system maintenance. Simulation results will show satisfactory localization accuracy.
