Partial discharge(PD) diagnosis and location is helpful to find the fault location of high-voltage power device in the early aging stage, and has important reference value for making maintenance plan. Now, many ultra high frequency (UHF) are often used to form sensor array, and three-dimensional coordinate system is defined to locate the partial discharge of transformer. In this paper, the principle of capturing the initial pulse of signal based on energy accumulation method and positioning based on time difference of arrival (TDOA) algorithm is studied. A nonlinear programming problem with the coordinates of partial discharge points as unknowns is constructed, and the tabu search particle swarm optimization (TS-PSO) algorithm is used to solve the optimal solution. The algorithm can avoid the problems of nonconvergence and nonuniqueness in solving nonlinear equations and the high initial value requirements of least square method. It can not only ensure the speed of solution, but also ensure the uniqueness and accuracy of solution. Laboratory and on-site tests verify the effectiveness of the positioning results.

Due to hardware and computational constraints, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) normally do not take measurements of time-of-arrival or time-difference-of-arrival for range-based localization. Instead, WSNs in some applications use range-free localization for simple but less accurate determination of sensor positions. A well-known algorithm for this purpose is the centroid algorithm. This paper presents a range-free localization technique based on the radical line of intersecting circles. This technique provides greater accuracy than the centroid algorithm, at the expense of a slight increase in computational load. Simulation results show that for the scenarios studied, the radical line method can give an approximately 2 to 30% increase in accuracy over the centroid algorithm, depending on whether or not the anchors have identical ranges, and on the value of DOI.

This paper presents an analytical method for one to compute the centroid of the overlapping area of two intersecting circles with arbitrary orientation. We also extend the solution to estimate the centroid of the overlapping area of three intersecting circles. Furthermore, based on the analytical solution of centroid computing, we propose a cell-based localization technique, namely Centroid Based Location (CBL) for wireless sensor networks. CBL works by finding the centroid of intersection of any two circles. In particular, we study the effect of power level mismatch among anchors. Simulation results show that CBL can significantly improve the accuracy while reducing the transmission power of anchors.

The design of an indoor sensor network to support localization-based services is a challenging issue in that the protocols and localization algorithms have to be adapted to the capabilities of resources-constrained sensor nodes. Furthermore, the achieved position accuracy depends on many factors like the amount of signaling and quality of inter-node measurements, as well as the mathematical algorithm used for estimating the position. In this paper we present experiences and considerations in the design of such systems for IEEE 802.15.4 indoor sensor networks.

The technological advantages of 5G networks facilitate the development of location technology for the Internet of Things. The single anchor localization algorithm has been designed using multiple antenna arrays, which enables the accurate and distributed localization of target nodes with a small number of anchor nodes. However, there are privacy breach issues in the localization process. To avoid the privacy breach, in this paper, an efficient privacy-preserving single anchor localization algorithm is proposed by adopting a novel noise-adding mechanism. A set of zero-sum noises has been carefully designed, which not only enables precise localization but also protects location privacy. The performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed in terms of localization accuracy and privacy preservation. Simulations validate the correctness and theoretical results.

localization is considered as an important parameter in wireless sensor network where it support the node to identify its location so that routing can take place in power efficient way in a dynamic network topology. The issue of localization has been addressed in many research areas such as vehicle navigation systems, virtual reality systems, user localization in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The proposed model presents a unique localization framework considering the presence of obstruction in the environment of wireless sensor network with random node placement and irregular radio patterns for minimizing the estimates of the range free localization errors. The mobile anchor nodes frequently broadcast beacon message, including their current location approach. The range-free localization algorithms evaluate the node ranging error accuracy in the anisotropic networks to address the localization inequality issues for the empty feasible set. Here, we applied the approach of convex optimization for localization since the computation is faster. Depending upon the node density the regular node need to communicate with the mobile anchor for the localization process by participating the regular nodes in the cooperative localization process.

Sensors collects data from the Physical environment and actors, they manipulate the information. Placing the sensor nodes wide access for observing the environment by the mobile sensor nodes are spread out in the river. The sensors are cognizant only about the distances from the actors and other sensors. Sensor nodes spread out in the river has its own challenges, they should be robust and posses high mobility. localization algorithm is used to minimize this threat by aggregate data from the migrating sensor nodes then passing the input to nearby actor nodes where the sensors gather this information. The certainty of the localization algorithm can be improved with Received Signal strength and other measurement techniques.

In this paper, we propose a novel localization algorithm tailored for energy-harvesting wireless sensor networks EH-WSNs where both the power budgets available at the EH sensors and hence their transmission capabilities are random. This characteristic, if not taken into account when designing the localization algorithm, may severely hinder its accuracy. Assuming a random transmission capability at each EH sensor, we develop a new approach to derive the expected hop progress (EHP). Exploiting the latter, we propose a localization algorithm that is able to accurately locate the EH sensors owing to a new implementation requiring no additional power consumption. Furthermore, we develop a correction mechanism which complies with the heterogeneous coverage nature of EH sensors to further improve localization accuracy without incurring any additional power cost. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm, whether applied with or without correction, outperforms in accuracy the most representative WSN localization algorithms in EH powering contexts.

The ability of low-cost mobile devices to quickly and accurately localize their geolocation is extremely important for pedestrian navigation and location-based services (LBS). Traditional approaches typically rely on global information provided by Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), beacons, or the high-cost tracking system. Weak signals and slow time to first fix are two limitations of GNSS, other sensors such as inertial measurement unit (IMU) devices will increase the hardware cost and need a substantially more complicated hybrid algorithm. Wi-Fi localization now regarded as a cost-effective way for indoor and outdoor positioning, it's mainly based on received signal strength indicator (RSSI) measurements, and there are many commercial products like Skyhook's Wi-Fi positioning technology. But the Wi-Fi database is collected through wardriving and it only provides a coarse location with 30-50m accuracy. In this paper, we present a novel method for metropolitan-scale Wi-Fi localization in Hong Kong. Our PCCW telephone booth Wi-Fi database is gathered through precise measurement based on the public telephone booths information, including the media access control address (MAC address), service set identifier (SSID) and coordinates of the Wi-Fi devices installed in the public telephone booths. We also propose a path loss model in the typical urban environment for improved accuracy in the relationship between RSSI and distance. Experimental results demonstrate that the Wi-Fi installed in the public telephone booths can be effectively used for localization in Hong Kong. The cell identification (Cell-ID) rank approach can generally achieve better than 40m accuracy. The triangulation approach following the Cell-ID rank approach can improve the Wi-Fi positioning accuracy to better than 10m level, if the effective range for path loss model is less than 30m, and under good triangulation geometry.

This paper presents a global localization method based on map matching. A local map is built by successive splitting and merging scan points. A global map is built by merging all local maps. Local and global map are represented with line segments that are sorted counterclockwise. Complete line segments are selected to match between two maps. Matching is based on relative position relation of complete line segment. localization algorithm based on ordinal map and based on relative position relation improves matching efficiency and lowers computational cost. All these techniques have been implemented on our mobile robot ATRVII equipped with 2D laser range scanner SICK.
