Construction of a predictive model for the transition from irreversible pulpitis to periodontal-involved disease

Irreversible pulpitis can develop into pulp necrosis, causing apical periodontitis (AP). The progression of apical periodontitis is always accompanied by periodontal disease. Many similar inflammatory response pathways are involved in both apical periodontitis (AP) and periodontal disease. The infiltration of specific immune cells and the activation of immune responses are thought to play important roles in the transition from irreversible pulpitis to AP and periodontal-related diseases. This study explored immune response characteristics during the transformation of pulpitis to periodontal disease. The study also constructed a predictive model by combining known clinical and imaging indicators related to this transformation. Gene expression data related to irreversible pulpitis, apical periodontitis, and periodontal disease were extracted from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were compared and identified. KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) enrichment analysis was performed to identify immune-related pathways. Key gene signatures were screened, and a retrospective research strategy was used to collect 80 samples from patients with irreversible pulpitis. Information about pulp sensation test indicators, caries depth, root canal curvature, and inflammation indices of the patients were combined, and a logistic regression model of clinical periodontal disease was created. Receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to evaluate the predictive performance of the model. Five genes were identified as common gene signatures during the transition from pulpitis to apical periodontitis and periodontal-involved disease. Following regression and ROC analyses revealed the expression of four genes, and the electric pulp test (EPT) value formed a predictive model with the best specificity and sensitivity in predicting the occurrence of apical periodontitis. Digital aquaculture technologies are playing an increasingly important role in enhancing resource management efficiency and reducing environmental pollution. Given the high feed cost of hyrbid grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus female x Epinephelus lanceolatus male) aquaculture, the present study aimed to classify the feeding behaviour of hybrid grouper using YOLO and to compare the accuracy of the random forest model, decision tree model, and logistic regression model in distinguishing grouper behaviour during the hunger, feeding, and post-feeding phases. Overall, groupers displayed distinct behaviors across these phases. During the hunger phase, they displayed active, dynamic swimming and foraging behaviors while searching for food. This vigorous movement made it challenging for a 60-second heatmap to accurately capture their movement patterns in the cumulative movement distribution. In contrast, during the feeding and post-feeding phases, their movements became more predictable. The cumulative movement distribution and 60-second heatmap showed high similarity, with most groupers congregating near the food source and feeding actively during the feeding phase, followed by more sedentary behavior post-feeding, as they settled at the bottom of the tank. Moreover, the random forest model outperformed the decision tree and linear regression models, achieving superior accuracy (0.95), F1-score (0.89), precision (0.96), and recall (0.86). These findings contribute to the development of intelligent feeding systems for hybrid grouper farming and offer valuable insights for improving the cost-efficiency of grouper aquaculture.

In many studies, the association of longitudinal measurements of a continuous response and a binary outcome are often of interest. A convenient framework for this type of problems is the joint model, which is formulated to investigate the association between a binary outcome and features of longitudinal measurements through a common set of latent random effects. The joint model, which is the focus of this article, is a logistic regression model with covariates defined as the individual-specific random effects in a non-linear mixed-effects model (NLMEM) for the longitudinal measurements. We discuss different estimation procedures, which include two-stage, best linear unbiased predictors, and various numerical integration techniques. The proposed methods are illustrated using a real data set where the objective is to study the association between longitudinal hormone levels and the pregnancy outcome in a group of young women. The numerical performance of the estimating methods is also evaluated by means of simulation.

Expanding glacial lakes and assessing outburst susceptibility of moraine-dammed lakes using logistic regression in the Yigong Tsangpo Basin, Tibet, China

Climate change is driving the rapid global expansion of glacial lakes, particularly in mountainous regions like the southeastern Tibetan Plateau. Moraine-dammed lakes (MDLs), formed by glacial meltwater blocked by glacial moraine dams, significantly risk outburst floods with devastating consequences. Our study focuses on the Yigong Tsangpo Basin, using Landsat satellite imagery from 1990 to 2022 to analyze changes in glacial lake size and distribution. We observed a 17.24% rise in glacial lake numbers and a 54.7% increase in their total area over 32 years. We selected six easily obtainable assessment factors based on the extracted results and DEM information. We proposed a simple logistic regression model to assess MDL outburst susceptibility. The model effectively determined the outburst susceptibility of historical MDL events in southeastern Tibet beyond the Yigong Tsangpo Basin. Applied to the Yigong Tsangpo Basin, the model highlighted 11 high-risk lakes requiring immediate attention. This study provides valuable preliminary references for disaster prevention and mitigation of MDL outbursts in southeastern Tibet.

To investigate the prevalence, clinical manifestations, and risk factors of hypofibrinogenemia after tigecycline use, which can disrupt coagulation and potentially hinder antimicrobial therapy. This observational study was conducted from January to December 2021 at a tertiary general hospital in China. All patients over 18 years old who received tigecycline for more than 48 h were included. After treatment with tigecycline, patients were divided into two groups based on fibrinogen plasma concentrations of less than 2.0 g/L. Multivariable logistic regression was performed to identify risk factors for hypofibrinogenemia associated with tigecycline. A total of 50 patients (mean age 71.3 +/- 20.2 years) were analyzed. The median duration of treatment was 8 days (range: 3 to 20 days). Among the 24 patients who developed hypofibrinogenemia, three gastrointestinal bleeding events were observed, and four of these patients required fibrinogen administration. We identified the total therapeutic dose (odds ratio (OR) = 15.28, 95% confidence interval (CI) 2.10-111.02, p = 0.01) and a baseline direct bilirubin level greater than 0.4 mg/dL (OR = 5.79, 95% CI 1.13-27.98, p = 0.04) as risk factors for tigecycline-induced hypofibrinogenemia. Conversely, a baseline fibrinogen level (OR = 0.53, 95% CI 0.29-0.97, p = 0.04) appeared to be a protective factor. Healthcare professionals should be aware that the administration of tigecycline may be associated with hypofibrinogenemia and severe adverse reactions. Regular monitoring of coagulation is essential, particularly for patients with liver dysfunction, low baseline fibrinogen levels, elevated baseline direct bilirubin levels, or those receiving higher total therapeutic doses.

RESEARCH AND EVALUATION OF CNC CUTTING PROCESS BASED ON ENERGY CONSUMPTION OPTIMISATION

For the optimisation of the machining process of the machine tool, the research from the machining process cutting parameters multi-objective optimisation (MOO) and considering the energy consumption (EC) of the workshop scheduling analysis, and then proposed a comprehensive consideration of the processing EC, productivity, and surface processing quality of the three tradeoff MOO method of machining parameters. In this study, grey correlation degree weight coefficient and orthogonal experiment were used to verify the optimisation method. Considering the influence of cutting parameters on machining time and EC, a dual-layer optimisation scheduling method of mixed flow shop was adopted. In the experimental results, the scheduling results with double-layer optimisation are lower in terms of total process time and total EC. When the binocular criteria are met, the total process time is 1,083.1 s and the total consumption is 11,845.3 kJ. Optimisation results the total process time is reduced by 205%, the total EC of the workshop is reduced by 12.8%, and the goal of energy-saving optimisation of the workshop processing is realised.

Analysis of household food security status in Hadiya Zone, Central Ethiopia

Ensuring food security is one of the paramount challenges facing the developing world today. Developing countries like Ethiopia have been facing food insecurity for many decades. Despite many efforts undertaken by the government of Ethiopia, the country has not yet achieved food self-sufficiency. The current household food security status and determining factors are inadequately recognized in Hadiya Zone. Thus, this study aims to contribute to filling this gap. The study utilized both primary and secondary data sources. A multistage sampling technique was used to select 384 respondents. A seven-day food consumption score method was used to determine dietary energy intake in kilocalories per person per day, which was then employed to evaluate household food security status. Descriptive and inferential statistics as well as the binary logistic regression model were used to analyze the data. The findings show that 52.1 % of respondents were food insecure, and the remaining 47.9 % were food secure households. The logistic regression model results show that household food security status was mainly influenced by sex, dependency ratio, technology adoption, annual income, non/offfarm participation, soil and water conservation practices, credit use, and market participation. The extent and severity of food insecurity vary across different areas and depend on various factors. To transform the food system into resilient and sustainable, this study recommends that concerned government bodies and stakeholders support rural households with improved agricultural technologies, promote rural entrepreneurship, scale up soil and water conservation practices, provide affordable credit schemes, and enhance market access through improving rural infrastructure.

Life Satisfaction and Internet Use in Later Life in Italy: The Role of Online Activities and Living Arrangements

This study aimed to provide new insights into the role of internet use in the life satisfaction of older people in Italy, considering, in detail, the types of their online activities and the potential differences between these activities according to the old people's genders and living arrangements. The data came from the survey Aspects of Daily Life conducted by the Italian National Institute of Statistics in 2021. The results of the logistic regression models used suggest that some online activities have associations with life satisfaction that vary according to gender and living arrangement. In particular, men living alone seem to benefit from voice and video calls, and men living with others, from messaging. On the other hand, for women living alone, online activities do not seem to be significantly associated with life satisfaction, but for women living with others, voice and video calls seem to be positively related to life satisfaction. Thus, not all online activities can be considered significant tools of empowerment for older adults. Specifically, internet use may have a beneficial effect among older Italians (excluding women living alone) when it is used to maintain or reinforce a real social network that is already present.

Evaluation of the Relationship Between Water Hardness and Incidence of Cardiovascular Diseases in Mashhad, Iran During 2018-2020: A Cross-Sectional Study

Background and Aims: It is believed that the presence of calcium, which is the cause of water hardness, has an inverse relationship with the occurrence of CVDs. However, the results of studies in this field are unclear due to high heterogeneity. Thus, the purpose of this study was to evaluate this hypothesis among members of the Mashhad Persian cohort in Mashhad, Iran. Methods: A total of 618 individuals, aged 25 to 65, who were healthy or had cardiovascular diseases, were chosen. The participants' biological samples were obtained in the first stage, and measurements of their height, weight, waist, hips, and wrist circumference were made in the second stage. The final step involved having the individuals fill out questions about their health and diet. Additionally, logistic regression models, the t-test, and the chi(2) test were employed for data statistical analysis. Results: The amount of calcium carbonate in the water consumed by the non-cardiac and cardiac subjects was 159.40 +/- 38.63 and 158.05 +/- 38.63, respectively, which was not statistically significant (p = 0.683). Taking into consideration that water containing calcium carbonate in concentrations 120-180 mg/L is generally considered hard;the two groups drank hard water. Furthermore, the results of the logistic regression model test demonstrated that there is still no significant correlation between the prevalence of CVD and the levels of calcium carbonate (p = 0.651) and total hardness (p = 0.660) in drinking water, even after accounting for other CVD risk factors. Conclusion: Consistent with prior studies, our article's findings demonstrated that there is no discernible correlation between the use of hard water consumption and the development of CVDs. However, several publications have also noted a significant correlation, mainly attributing it to the existence of magnesium ions. Therefore, further research can help give a definitive answer to this hypothesis.
