The association between manganese exposure with cardiovascular disease in older adults: NHANES 2011-2018

The aim of the current study was to explore possible connections between manganese exposure and the prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in older US adults. The relationship between serum manganese levels and CVD was explored in 2427 people aged 60 years and over using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) (2011-2018). Multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to investigate associations between CVD risk factors and serum manganese concentration. The relationship between manganese levels and the prevalence of CVD was probed using generalized linear models and restricted cubic spline curves. Stratified subgroup analysis was subsequently constructed to rule out spurious interactions between variables and manganese. Compared with the lowest quartile, the modified odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for CVD prevalence across the manganese quartiles were 0.71 (OR: 0.51;CI: 1.00), 0.70 (0.50, 0.99), and 0.49 (0.34, 0.72). In the full adjusted model, a prominent negative relationship was observed between serum manganese concentration and CVD. A restricted cubic spline curve was used to show a nonlinear negative relationship between manganese concentration and CVD. In summary, manganese levels are negatively correlated with the risk of CVD in a nation-wide study of older US adults.

The purpose of this paper is to verify the impact of financial news on corporate credit risk. Web crawler technology is used to obtain the financial news text from Sina Financial News. The text mining technology is utilized to quantify the financial news text. The quantified financial news text combined with financial indicators is used to build the logistic regression model. The assessment results show that the risk early warning accuracy of the logistic regression model incorporating both the quantified financial news text and financial indicators is higher than the logistic regression model only with pure financial indicators.

To understand whether commuters will take rail transit during the COVID-19 pandemic,a logistic regression model was constructed from three aspects of personal attributes,travel attributes and perception of COVID-19 based on 559 valid *** results show that:occupation,commuting tools before the COVID-19 pandemic,walking time from residence to the nearest subway station,the possibility of being infected in private car and the possibility of being infected in public transport have significant influence on the commuters’choice of rail ***-employed people and freelancers,commuters who used non-public transport before the COVID-19 pandemic,and commuters who take longer to walk from their residences to the nearest subway station are less likely to commute by rail transit during the COVID-19 *** who think that the risk of being infected with the virus in public transport is higher have a lower probability of choosing rail *** confidence in bus/subway/taxi/taxi-hailing of commuters who do not choose to commute by rail transit during the COVID-19 pandemic is not *** study of this paper can provide reference for the formulation of urban rail transit control measures during the COVID-19 pandemic,so as to formulate more perfect measures to ensure the safety of the returning workers.

Determination of Kinetic and Thermodynamic Parameters of Biomass Gasification with TG-FTIR and regression model Fitting

In this study, the decomposition of five different raw materials (maize, wheat and piney biomass, industrial wood chips and sunflower husk) were investigated using the TG-FTIR method to obtain raw data for model-based calculations. The data obtained from the thermogravimetric analysis served as a basis for kinetic analysis with three different isoconversional, model-free methods, which were the KAS, FWO and Friedman methods. Afterwards, the activation energy and the pre-exponential factor were determined, and no significant difference could be identified among the used methods (difference was under 5%), achieving 203-270 kJ/mol of Ea on average. Thereafter, the thermodynamic parameters were studied. Based on the TG-FTIR data, a logistic regression model was fitted to the data, which gives information about the thermal degradation and the obtained components with different heating rates. The FTIR analysis resulted in differential peaks corresponding to the studied components that were detected within the temperature range of 350-380 degrees C. The primary degradation processes occurred within a broader temperature range of 200-600 degrees C. Accordingly, in this work, the use of logistic mixture models as an alternative to traditional kinetic models for the description of the TGA process was also investigated, reaching adequate performance in fitting by a validation data coefficient of determination of R2 = 0.9988.

scADCA: An Anomaly Detection-Based scRNA-seq Dataset Cell Type Annotation Method for Identifying Novel Cells

Background With the rapid evolution of single-cell RNA sequencing technology, the study of cellular heterogeneity in complex tissues has reached an unprecedented resolution. One critical task of the technology is cell-type annotation. However, challenges persist, particularly in annotating novel cell *** Current methods rely heavily on well-annotated reference data, using correlation comparisons to determine cell types. However, identifying novel cells remains unstable due to the inherent complexity and heterogeneity of scRNA-seq data and cell types. To address this problem, we propose scADCA, a method based on anomaly detection, for identifying novel cell types and annotating the entire *** The convolutional modules and fully connected networks are integrated into an autoencoder, and the reference dataset is trained to obtain the reconstruction errors. The threshold based on these errors can distinguish between novel and known cells in the query dataset. After novel cells are identified, a multinomial logistic regression model fully annotates the *** Using a simulation dataset, three real scRNA-seq pancreatic datasets, and a real scRNA-seq lung cancer cell line dataset, we compare scADCA with six other cell-type annotation methods, demonstrating competitive performance in terms of distinguished accuracy, full accuracy, -score, and confusion *** In conclusion, the scADCA method can be further improved and expanded to achieve better performance and application effects in cell type annotation, which is helpful to improve the accuracy and reliability of cytology research and promote the development of single-cell omics.

Study on financial risk prediction of enterprises based on logistic regression

Financial risk has a great influence on the development of enterprises, and the prediction of financial risk can help enterprises to treat risks early. In order to realize the prediction of enterprise financial risk, find the risk as early as possible and make a response as soon as possible, according to the principle of predictability and reliability, this study selected 15 financial indicators from aspects of debt repayment level, profit level, operation level, growth level, and cash level, then predicted the risk by the logistic regression model, and analyzed the risk of 36 pairs of enterprises. The results showed that the model designed in this study had an accuracy rate of 91.67%, and the risk of a company was successfully predicted based on the financial situation of the company from 2018 to 2020, which verified the reliability of the method. Thus the model can effectively predict the financial risk of enterprises, and it can be further promoted and applied to ensure the long-term development of enterprises and establish a good market environment.

The present study explores one of the biggest causes of the lack of organizational knowledge creation: knowledge hiding (KH). KH can be provoked by the deviant and detached behaviours of leaders and/or the motivations of employees. In this context, leaders assume a key role in reducing the effect of KH. Through the lens of transformational leadership (TL), a sample of 758 European SMEs with a total number of 2,232 employees operating in a knowledge-intensive sector is investigated. The scope is to evaluate the correlation between the three main characteristics of transformational leadership (i.e., trust, a collaborative environment, and the involvement of employees) and the phenomenon of KH through a logistic regression analysis. It emerges that TL can influence the organizational context and redefine the behaviours related to KH. In addition, empathic leadership can provide added value for companies since a collaborative environment and common objectives reduce the level of KH.

Association between Whole-Body Vibration exposure and musculoskeletal disorders among dumper operators: A case-control study in Indian iron ore mines

BACKGROUND: Dumper operators in mines worldwide are subjected to Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) due to whole-body vibration exposure. This study evaluated the working-life-Whole-Body Vibration (WBV)-exposure and their association with various MSDs among dumper operators in mines which remains poorly addressed. METHODS: This case-control study in Indian iron ore mines was conducted to compare randomly selected 65 dumper operators and 65 office workers. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) and were analysed using logistic regression models. RESULTS: The study revealed that majority of the dumper operators were exposed to WBV exceeding the ISO-2631 limits. Compared with controls, the dumper operators had a much higher risk of upper back pain (age-overweight-adjusted odds ratio ORao = 5.37, 95% CI= 1.78-16.20), lower back pain (ORao = 2.72, 95% CI =1.25-5.94), knee and leg pain (ORao = 3.68, 95% CI = 1.22-11.11), and having 2+ MSDs (ORao = 5.05, 95% CI = 1.88-13.51, vs. no MSDs). Working-life-WBV-exposure was higher among dumper operators having upper back pain (mean (SD) = 7.1 (1.91) vs. 5.7 (1.91), p < 0.01) and lower back pain (mean (SD) = 6.63 (2.10) vs. 5.55 (1.71), p < 0.01) compared to those without these MSDs. Older age was associated with higher risk of MSD pains. CONCLUSION: Dumper operators have excess MSDs due to high working-life-WB V-exposure. Their MSDs and working-life-WB V-exposure should be regularly evaluated and reduced.

Statutory vs census towns: modeling the differences of urban development using statistical approach in India: a micro level case analysis

Urbanisation is assessed from demographic, socioeconomic and infrastructural perspectives and treated as magnet for regional development and basic services and infrastructures viz. water supply, sanitation, transport, power, shelter, education, health, etc. are very important for urban dwellers and town functioning. The article focuses on availability and access to the services and facilities in Statutory Towns (STs-[having statutory body viz. municipality, corporation, cantonment, etc.]) and Census Towns (CTs-[having population > 5000, population density > 400/*** and 75% male non-agricultural workers]). To assess the disparity in infrastructures, weighted combination score (WCS) using 5 broad parameters (Education, health, financial, commercial and recreation) and 12 sub parameters and difference in access to amenities i.e. quality of life (QOL) between STs and CTs, logistic regression model are used. The results reveal the remarkable disparity between STs and CTs in availability of infrastructure and services. So, the higher rate of urbanisation of Nadia district which is mainly accentuated by emergence of CTs indicates the urban growth without the development of infrastructures and amenities Therefore, the research may be helpful in identifying the lacuna of urban centres and thereby in policy formulation regarding infrastructures and basic amenities.

Assessment of the influence of psychosocial factors on musculoskeletal disorder symptom intensity

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have observed that psychosocial factors are associated with an increase in work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) in European countries. However, the influence of psychosocial factors on the WMSD symptoms has not been studied in detail. Additionally, working conditions differ between developing and developed countries. OBJECTIVE: In this study, the influence of psychosocial factors on WMSD symptoms among men and women in the footwear industry in northeastern Brazil is investigated. METHODS: A questionnaire survey was conducted to evaluate workers' perceptions of psychosocial factors and WMSD symptoms. The influence of psychosocial factors on WMSD symptom trends was observed through ordinal logistic regression models. RESULTS: It was found that different psychosocial factors are related to WMSD symptom intensification. Factors such as "job insecurity" and "low social support," which are not associated with the worsening of WMSD symptoms in developed countries, showed a noticeable influence in the sample analyzed. CONCLUSION: These findings may be associated with differences in working conditions and economic problems in developing countries, suggesting that some psychosocial factors have a different effect on workers' perceptions in developing countries.
