This paper describes the new design of the exhibition support system in a museum. "It is a support system which can be suitable individually in a learner's diversity and situation." The loudspeaker array system can form the high-sound pressure area. This area is called sound spot. The loudspeaker array system is a noncontact sound interface. In this paper, the effectiveness of this system is verified for science education. The two experiments are conducted. First experiment, the effectiveness of sound information and paper information are compared. The comparison between explaining exhibition by texts and sounds is performed at the museum. We search the effective of explaining by letters and sound by questionnaire and quiz of examinees. Second experiment, the ease of listening is compared by the loudspeaker array system and a loudspeaker. We search the effective of ease of listening by questionnaire. In all the experiments, elementary school students are targets. A participant is a sixth grader from a third grader.

We propose a method of creating acoustically bright and dark zones using a circular loudspeaker array. Practical reproduction must maximize acoustic contrast with a limited range of loudspeaker weights to ensure the quality of reproduced sounds. Therefore, we consider a constrained pressure-matching method that uses Tikhonov regularization. Furthermore, we impose additional sparse regularization to describe the ideal reproduced sound field as a simple model with a sparse structure. We obtain optimal loudspeaker weights by using an acoustic maximization algorithm based on a proximal splitting method. Numerical simulation results show that our method achieves a higher acoustic contrast than existing pressure-matching-based methods with a constraint of limited loudspeaker weights.

Sound Reproduction Method by Front loudspeaker array for Home Theater Applications

In this paper, we describe a sound reproduction method by using a linear front loudspeaker array. Sound images are reproduced by two processes separately on the basis of wave field synthesis. First, the front sound images are synthesized as plane waves. Second, the lateral or rear sound images are rendered by focused sources and reflected by side walls. To widen the listening area, a linear loudspeaker array system with steered directivity is proposed, providing the convenience of installation with a display device. Computational simulations are conducted to evaluate the proposed system.

This paper describes about simultaneous generation of multiple three-dimensional sound spots by using 512 ch panel loudspeaker array. The 512 ch panel loudspeaker array is developed to make three-dimensional multiple sound spots. We confirm the 512 ch panel loudspeaker array can generate four-place simultaneous formation of the three-dimensional sound spot. From this result, voice communication of information to many people is possible. We consider multiple three-dimensional sound spots from measurement result of sound pressure distribution.

The present paper proposes a method for individual sound image generation using a loudspeaker array and nullspace-based sound field control for multiple users. In the proposed method, each reproduced sound is reduced in another control area by arranging control points, which control the sound pressure to be zero, so as to separate the users. The results of a numerical simulation reveal that the proposed method is superior to unprocessed sound reproduction by approximately 5 dB. We also determined that it is possible to increase the sound pressure in the listening area by selecting an appropriate number of control points for the lower frequency band.

We investigated the multipole loudspeaker array based on spherical harmonic expansion in the Cartesian coordinate system. The arrangement of the multipoles with the least number of loudspeaker units has been studied for 2nd order of spherical harmonic expansion. The directivity of the multipole array does not achieve ideal directivity of the spherical functions due to the asymmetrical arrangement. The multipole array was also applied to an end-fire array because a multipole array uses less loudspeakers than the spherical array if the look-direction is fixed. We compared the performance of the conventional least-squares design method and multipole array method for an end-fire array. The least squares method had a higher directivity due to the large number of variable coefficients. Nevertheless, the multipole array based on spherical harmonic expansion has advantages of easy setup in the Cartesian coordinate system, analytical directivity, and small number of filter coefficients.

This paper describes the Sound spot generation and evaluation by a large scale panel loudspeaker array. The authors research the sound spot by loudspeaker array. The sound spot is local high sound pressure area. We develop 128ch panel loudspeaker array and 512 ch panel loudspeaker array to generate the sound spot. The 512 ch panel loudspeaker array is using four the 128ch panel loudspeaker array systems, and is surrounded by the square form. The authors simulate the sound spot generated by the 128ch panel loudspeaker array and the 512 ch panel loudspeaker array. From the result of the simulation, the 128 ch panel loudspeaker array can generate straight line sound spot and the 512 ch panel loudspeaker array can generate spherical sound spot. Actual measurement of sound spot is performed by using 64 ch microphones measurement system. We confirm that each panel loudspeaker array generate three dimensional sound spot from result of measurement. This means that communication of voice information to many people is possible

A newly developed light sensitive, actuator-based, smart polymer loudspeaker is presented. The advantages of this polymer loudspeaker include being lightweight and having the flexibility to be cut into any arbitrary shape or surface to create a versatile audio system for the home or car. This light-sensitive, actuator smart polymer is created using a piezoelectric polymer as the substrate and TiOPc (Titanyl phthalocyanine.-modification) as an additive. The relationship between acoustic impedance, stiffness, and light-sensitive dyes were measured. The effects of light-sensitive dyes on acoustic impedance were measured for decreasing output of sound waves. The influence of acoustic performance on illumination pattern as a modulated distributed force field is examined in detail. The displacement and the acoustic fields produced by the light-sensitive smart polymer actuator were simulated using a finite element method (FEM). The possibilities to further improve the performance of our newly developed micro speaker by adopting psychoacoustics are detailed.

Concert hall acoustics is an inherently conflicted, perceptual art form that meets the practical, engineering-based design process. What began as a trade learned on the job from experts has gradually evolved to an engineering-rooted discipline through computer simulations, impulse response measurement techniques, and auralization. Despite these advances, engineering design practices and processes must be fundamentally related to human perception that has driven the field for many *** goal of this current work was to study concert hall perception using spherical array processing techniques in a wide variety of real concert halls. For the study, the concert hall orchestral research database, or CHORDatabase, was generated, consisting of spherical microphone and compact spherical loudspeaker array (CSLA) room impulse response (RIR) measurements in 21 concert halls. The concert halls in the database include a wide variety in shape, size, reverberance, and geography, including 15 North American and 6 European *** measurements were made using a 32-channel spherical microphone array and a three-part omnidirectional sound source, which enabled high-resolution spatial beamforming analysis and standard room acoustic metric calculations. As well, the microphone array enables spatially accurate auralizations using higher-order Ambisonics over a 30-loudspeaker auralization array. Finally, a 20-channel CSLA was built to flexibly reconstruct the frequency-dependent radiation patterns of different orchestral instruments. Using this source, repeatable and realistic full-orchestral auralizations were generated for each concert hall. A subjective study investigated which factors were most important regarding concert hall perception and preference. A factor analysis revealed three to four factors of importance, relating to clarity, strength / spaciousness, and brilliance. Multichannel audio reproduces a sound field by loudspeakers surrounding a listener, which necessarily occupies the living environment in the home. The purpose of this study is to reproduce the sound by loudspeakers placed around the image display, which is referred to as "frame loudspeaker array". In this paper, we focused on the reproduction of the frontal channels of 22.2 multichannel by the array. Each channel signal of the multichannel audio was distributed into loudspeakers with the weighting coefficients that minimized the square error between the original sound field by the channel and the reproduced sound field by the array. The sound fields were represented by the tenth order spherical functions. The signal was passed through the auditory band pass filter and changed its amplitude and delay according to the weighting coefficient calculated for the center frequency of the filter. The band pass signals were then summed up to generate the full band input signal for loudspeakers. The informal listening test showed that this method could preserve the spatial feature of the original multichannel audio. © 2019 Proceedings of the International Congress on Acoustics.
