This paper describes the construction of chirp-like constant-modulus transmit waveforms designed so as to possess multiple notches in their frequency spectra at user-specified frequencies. We propose an iterative projection algorithm with low computational complexity. In wide-band radar systems, such frequency-notched transmit waveforms are needed so as to avoid transmitting into frequency bands that are used by other systems such as for communication, navigation, etc.

We propose a minimax design method for multi-dimensional (M-D) interpolated finite-support impulse response (IFIR) filters. As a result of the cascade structure of an MD IFIR filter, the optimization problem of the minimax design is nonconvex. In order to solve this nonconvex optimization problem, we employ a convex-concave procedure, where each iteration solves a convex constrained optimization problem. We present experimental results to confirm the effectiveness and the superior performance of the proposed method compared to previously proposed minimax designs of M-D IFIR filters. Furthermore, we present an implementation of M-D IFIR filter on the Xilinx Kintex UltraScale KCU105 field-programmable gate array, where a quantization error of 60.59 dB is achieved with the coefficient word length of 24 bits.

The spatio-temporal wideband beamforming is an important technology for array antenna. In practical applications, beamforming performance is greatly affected by the snapshots which are used to obtain signal vectors. Convolutional neural network (CNN) is widely known for its characteristics of large-scale parallel processing and excellent self-organizing learning. In this paper, we propose a CNN to estimate the direction of interference quickly and accurately, and it can ulteriorly obtain deep nulls for wideband beamforming to suppress interference. Compared with the conventional spatio-temporal wideband beamforming algorithms, the proposed structure obtain a satisfactory performance with lower number of snapshots. Simulations emphasize the correctness and effectiveness of the novel method. © 2022 IEEE.

Sparse code multiple access (SCMA) is a research hotspot in recent years. In this paper, we proposed a joint SCMA detection and Turbo decoding (JDD) scheme for the SCMA system. The proposed method integrates the message passing between SCMA detector and turbo decoder into the factor graph of the SCMA detector to construct a joint factor graph. Simulation results show the JDD scheme has 1.6 dB performance gain compared to the iterative detection and decoding (IDD) scheme. Moreover, it has only 0.2 dB performance loss compared to the single user QPSK system. To further reduce the computational complexity of the JDD scheme, we implement the JDD scheme in the logarithm domain (LOG-JDD) with the same performance compared with the IDD scheme. A technology that can improve the convergence is used to improve the bit error rate (BER) performance. Simulation results show that a suitable damping factor can obtain about 1dB performance gain compared with the IDD scheme.

This paper introduces an algorithm with a very low computational complexity, which enables to detect rotor asymmetries in induction motors. The proposed approach is based on calculating the negative sequence component of the startup stator currents, and enables to visualize the characteristic pattern of the lower sideband component (LSH) during the startup transient. Unlike previous published approaches, the proposed method does not need to use either frequency domain transforms nor time-frequency transforms or complex mathematic functions. Thus it can he implemented as an embedded algorithm in preexisting electronic devices or in low cost devices such as DSPs or tablets. In this paper the method is theoretically justified and validated through simulation and laboratory tests.

The paper proposes new algorithm for power harmonics parameters measurement based on modified Newton-Raphson method. The main modification is achieved through reconfiguration of the Jacobian matrix, and direct calculation of its characteristic coefficients without need to obtain inversion. The zero-crossing method is used to compute the frequency roughly for initial frequency estimation. With additional digital filtering, the parameters can be initialized properly and the updating steps can be supervised for fast convergence of Newton-Raphson iterations. With this combined approach, both high accuracy and good tracking speed can be achieved. It significantly reduces the computation complexity and makes the programming easier as well. The proposed algorithm has the quadratic convergence. Reliability and effectiveness of the proposed method was confirmed through simulation tests and results.

For wireless terminals with the low memory, and limited computing performance, it is necessary to research face recognition strategies with low complexities and small memory requirements. The nearest feature line (NFL) classifier and its extended classifiers are effective for face recognition due to its improvement of the representational capacity of prototype. Therefore, this paper proposed a novel classifier-the simplified feature line (SFL). SFL not only keeps the advantages of NFL, but also significantly lowers the computational complexity by reducing the number of feature lines, and acquires better robustness. The experimental results based on real-world datasets show that SFL performs better than NFL in all experiment points, with the accuracy improved by about 5%-20% and its test duration cut down to 20%.

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) has been considered as a promising technique due to the fact that it dramatically increases the system throughput. In MIMO systems, signal detection at the receiver is regarded as one of the challenging tasks. Maximum likelihood (ML) detection provides minimum bit error rate (BER) by searching all possible candidates, however, its computational complexity grows exponentially as the number of antennas or modulation level increases. In order to reduce the complexity, QR decomposition (QRD)-M algorithm was proposed. The QRD-M algorithm achieves near ML performance by selecting M candidates in each layer, however, its complexity is still high when the number of M is large. In this paper, we propose an adaptive M selection scheme in QRD-M algorithm which provides comparable performance to the conventional QRD-M algorithm with significantly low complexity. In the proposed detection algorithm, the number of survival candidate symbols is determined by using an adaptive threshold to exclude unreliable candidate symbols. In order to verify the proposed algorithm, we present the BER of the proposed algorithm compared with that of the conventional QRD-M algorithm and analyze the computational complexities of the proposed and conventional algorithms.

A new timing synchronization algorithm based on Constant Amplitude Zero Auto-Correlation (CAZAC) sequence for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems is proposed in this paper. The training symbol of the presented method consists of four different parts and is constructed by the use of CAZAC sequence, utilizing delay correlation and symmetrical correlation properties to accomplish accurate and stable timing synchronization. Moreover, a new timing metric with low computational complexity is given to improve timing efficiency. To evaluate the performance of the presented algorithm, simulations are performed by the mean timing offset (MTO), the mean-square error (MSE) and the calculation time. The evaluation results indicate that our proposed method has better timing estimation performance and sharply reduce the computational complexity.

In this paper, we propose a joint feedforward equalizer (FFE) and an error-based feedforward equalizer (Err-FFE) to eliminate the serious inter-symbol interference and high-frequency colored noise for 100 Gb/s 4-level pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM4) optical systems. The proposed Err-FFE is first designed to replace the joint post-filter (PF) and maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE). The Err-FFE algorithm has only 15% computational complexity compared to the joint PF and MLSE. Moreover, experimental results show that the performance of joint FFE and Err-FFE algorithm is much better than that conventional FFE, and is comparable with that of FFE joint with PF and MLSE. In conclusion, the proposed Err-FFE has both low computational complexity and excellent performance for PAM4-based optical systems, which indicates its potential for applications in low-cost and low-power short-reach optical interconnects.
