Two-dimensional maximum area array (m-array) is a typical pseudo-random array with speciflc window property - all sub-windows are globally unique. m-array constructed by Formula-method-Based encoding algorithm features a big difference between the number of rows and columns. Enumerationmethod-Based encoding algorithm only constructs small-size m-array with high computational complexity and low success rate. Based on the characteristics of Galois Fields, a new method of m-array construction based on non-zero maps theory is proposed and the theoretical proof is presented. Given symbols p and sub-window size m fl n as input, m-array with a large array size and close numbers of rows and columns is constructed by dividing and splicing m-sequence. Comparing with existing methods, the advantages of the algorithm include larger array size, more balanced number of rows and columns, and lower computational complexity. If needed, the method in this paper is flexible enough that the number of rows and columns of m-array can also be adjusted within a certain range, meaning that m-array with speciflc rows and columns ratio can be constructed.

This paper presents a novel VLSI solution for sorting input samples in the transform domain to achieve real-time performance for image/video applications. The sorting is based on a dedicated memory containing so-called bar-chart information. The required value, such as median, can be generated from mSB to LSB sequentially by successively evaluating each bit of the memory content. In the architecture design, the dedicated memory is realized by (1) level control unit and (2) shift register arrays. To speed up the formation of bar-charts, the level control unit provides parallel control signals to the shift register arrays. moreover, such an architecture can easily be updated when running any order operations are concerned. Our current design can handle at most 25 input samples with word-length of 8 bits, and the resultant IC shows that a 25-mHz clock rate can be achieved and the chip area is 0.69 x 0.56 cm2.

We present here the m-array modulation scheme that enables transmission of higher data rates at the same spectral bandwidth. The results indicate that the m-array technique can be implemented. This scheme leads to a significant narrowing of the optical spectrum which, in turn, enables a significant extension of dispersion-limited links.

High Precision Visual Dimension measurement method with Large Range Based on multi-Prism and m-array Coding

The visual dimension measurement method based on non-splicing single lens has the contradiction between accuracy and range of measurement, which cannot be considered simultaneously. In this paper, a multi-camera cooperative measurement method without mechanical motion is proposed for the dimension measurement of thin slice workpiece. After the calibration of the multi-camera imaging system is achieved through a simple and efficient scheme, the high-precision dimension measurement with a large field of view can be completed through a single exposure. First, the images of the edges of the workpiece are compressed and combined by splitting and merging light through the multi-prism system, and the results are distributed to multiple cameras by changing the light path. Then, the mapping relationship between the global measurement coordinates and the image coordinates of each camera is established based on the globally unique m-array coding, and the image distortion is corrected by the coding unit composed of black and white blocks. Finally, the edge is located accurately by edge point detection at the sub-pixel level and curve fitting. The results of measuring a test workpiece with the dimension of 24 mm x 12 mm x 2 mm through a single exposure show that the repeated measurement accuracy can reach 0.2 mu m and the absolute accuracy can reach 0.5 mu m. Compared with other methods, our method can achieve the large-field measurement through only one exposure and without the mechanical movement of cameras. The measurement precision is higher and the speed is faster.

Pattern Encoding of Robust m-array Driven by Texture Constraints

m-array pattern encoding is widely used in structured light for 3-D reconstruction due to its single-projection and single-imaging characteristics. The robustness of m-array in 3-D reconstruction can be assessed by the accuracy of the global positioning of the code word and the density of the decodable feature points. This article proposes a pattern encoding method of robust m-array based on texture constraints. m-arrays are formed by matching and splicing candidate sub-windows, which are composed of symbols obtained from an m-Sequence one by one. To construct an m-array with more texture information, both the number of edges and the maximum rectangular area within the sub-window are constrained. A novel three-level backtracking mechanism reduces the time complexity. Four indicators are introduced to evaluate the robustness of the m-array and used to compare the proposed method with existing methods. The results show that the proposed method has low similarity between adjacent sub-windows and high uniformity of symbol distribution globally, indicating better accuracy of sub-window decoding. A 3-D reconstruction experiment in the actual scenes proves that the point cloud density and accuracy obtained by solving the m-array pattern constructed by the method proposed are better.

We discuss the semiparametric modeling of mark-recapture-recovery data where the temporal and/or individual variation of model parameters is explained via covariates. Typically, in such analyses a fixed (or mixed) effects parametric model is specified for the relationship between the model parameters and the covariates of interest. In this paper, we discuss the modeling of the relationship via the use of penalized splines, to allow for considerably more flexible functional forms. Corresponding models can be fitted via numerical maximum penalized likelihood estimation, employing cross-validation to choose the smoothing parameters in a data-driven way. Our contribution builds on and extends the existing literature, providing a unified inferential framework for semiparametric mark-recapture-recovery models for open populations, where the interest typically lies in the estimation of survival probabilities. The approach is applied to two real datasets, corresponding to gray herons (Ardea cinerea), where we model the survival probability as a function of environmental condition (a time-varying global covariate), and Soay sheep (Ovis aries), where we model the survival probability as a function of individual weight (a time-varying individual-specific covariate). The proposed semiparametric approach is compared to a standard parametric (logistic) regression and new interesting underlying dynamics are observed in both cases.

In this paper we present a new pattern for the robust coding of the structured light based on the spatial neighborhood scheme and by means of the m-array approach. The pattern is robust as it allows a high error rate characterized by a Hamming distance higher than 3. We tackle the design problem with the definition of a small set of symbols associated to geometrical features with simple shapes. We benefit from the stripe, as it is one of the considered primitives, to embed the local orientation of the pattern. This is helpful while performing the search for the relevant neighborhood during the decoding process. The aim of this work is to use this pattern for the 3-D reconstruction of dynamic scenes with fast and reliable detection and decoding stages. Ongoing results are presented to assess both the capabilities of the proposed pattern and the decoding algorithm with projections onto simple 3-D scenes.
