Extreme global warming due to climate change is causing severe impacts on human society, and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is crucial for social and economic development. In the economic field, amusement parks (APs) emit more GHG emissions than other categories in tourism sectors owing to visitor arrivals and electricity consumption. This research proposes integrating renewable energy (RE) power systems with amusement park rides (APRs) through new technology, transforming energy resources from fossil fuels in APs into RE resources, and eliminating emissions while maintaining the balance of economy and environment with a mathematical model to optimize the RE capacity and installed cost in APs.

Two-sided manufacturing-as-a-service (MaaS) marketplaces connect clients requesting manufacturing services to suppliers providing those services. The matching mechanism that allocates clients' orders to suppliers is a key design parameter of the marketplace platform. The platform might perform an allocation to maximize its revenue or optimize for social welfare of all participants. However, individual participants might not get maximum value from their match and reject it to form matches themselves (called blocking groups), thereby bypassing the platform. This paper considers the bipartite matching problem in MaaS marketplaces in a dynamic environment and proposes two matching solutions that limit the formation of blocking groups. Matching is based on non-strict, incomplete and interdependent preferences of participants over contracts, enabling negotiations between both sides. Simulations are used to test the mechanisms in a 3D printing services marketplace and evaluate the impact of stability on its performance. It is found that stable matching results in small degradation in social welfare of the marketplace but significantly better outcomes in terms of stability. Unstable matchings introduce anarchy into the marketplace with participants rejecting its allocation leading to performance poorer than stable matchings.

Purpose The problem of ethnic conflicts and unrest is at the forefront in a diverse world today. This paper aims to identify ways of resolving social conflicts and establishing a balanced way of taking into account the diverse interests of a multinational society. Design/methodology/approach Modeling of dynamical ethnic processes in the Republic of Kazakhstan was based on the Parson's sociological scheme and the Nash equilibrium theory. The model consists of differential equations describing the development of four ethnic subsystems: political system, economic system, societal community and Institute of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan. This model allows investigating how the interests of various ethnic groups change over time and identifying the states of equilibrium in which the interests of all groups are satisfied. Findings The results of computer simulation showed that one of the solutions to the problem of social stability is establishing social equilibrium. For this, the Institute of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan (APK Institute) must take changes that occur within ethnic groups into account. The proposed model can reveal states of equilibrium with respect to positive and negative dynamic processes that exist between different ethnic groups. Originality/value The proposed model can be used to predict changes in social behavior and find balance between ethnic subsystems in the research on ethnic processes in multinational countries to early detect conflicts of interest and crisis situations. Future studies will benefit from expanding the range of subsystems that can affect alterations in the ethnic community.

This techniquerelies on the acceleration of naturally occurring weathering reactions with water and carbon dioxide by reducingthese substances into a fine powder with high specific surface area. The ex situ enhanced weathering processchain consists of the acquisition of suitable natural or synthetic materials, grinding to a fine particle size,transportation, and application on suitable sites. To implement IT, business, educational, scientific, etc. projects, it is required to have a team of employees with specific competences. A very important aspect is also to guarantee the availability of these employees during the implementation of individual stages of the project. From the point of view of project management, it is crucial to provide an answer e.g. to the question: Do the competences of team members guarantee the completion of the project on time? If constraints related to the absence of team members, costs, limited working time, etc. are additionally considered, then the problem becomes non-trivial. The paper proposes a MILP (Mixed Integer Linear programming) model for the configuration of project team members, which makes it possible to find answers to many questions related to project management in the context of the project team. The model can be used to make decisions both proactively and reactively. The implementation of the model using mathematical programming and the author's procedure for reducing the size of the modeled problem were also presented.

Assembly lines are one of the best ways to meet human needs within production systems. In recent years, developments in the field of technology have also affected assembly lines. Companies that want to meet rapidly increasing demands and needs have started to design their assembly lines according to changing and developing technology. In the last few years, companies adopting paradigms such as smart factories and digital transformation have increased interest in industry 4.0 technologies. Especially the developments in the field of robotics called the wonder of technology, are a revolutionary change for assembly lines. Human-robot interaction represents an essential step in production. Collaborative robots (Cobots) can share the same working environment as humans. Inspired by the necessity of human-cobot interaction, this study investigates assembly line balancing with human and cobot collaboration. In addition, this study is the first to consider the appropriate gripper types required for cobots to perform assembly tasks of different sizes and shapes. A mixed integer linear programming model has been developed for the related problem, and an illustrative example has been presented to understand the developed model better. This study demonstrates how cobots with various technological capabilities and suitable grippers can change traditional assembly lines to determine the optimal number of workstations and grippers within a particular cycle time when predetermined tasks are performed by sharing the same work environment in interaction with humans.

With the increased complexities in end markets, advanced quantitative tools became essential for efficient decision-making. Traditional methods that implement average forecasted demand and prices often fail to account for the dynamic nature of network behaviour. Hence, this study introduces a multi-period mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model for flexible natural gas allocation in complex networks. The model was formulated based on Qatar as a case study, utilising a Qatar-based natural gas monetisation network that includes four direct and two indirect monetisation processes. By integrating flexible operational boundaries with annual demand and price forecasts, the model optimises annual allocation strategies to maximise profitability. A scenario-based evaluation of three cases demonstrated the model's robustness and potential for enhancing profitability. Scenarios limited to operational constraints achieved the highest profitability, especially in allocating high-value commodities such as ammonia and urea. However, the proposed production capacities surpass the current infrastructure capabilities, requiring further infrastructure investments. The validation of results showed a slight profitability decrease of 1.2% when these investment costs were included. Notably, the case considering fixed and operating cost variables together as a single cost variable in the objective function, referred to as annualised cost (case C), offered optimal cost quantification with relaxed technical constraints. Overall, the multi-level multi-period MILP model aids decision-makers in understanding system capabilities and explores the benefits of flexible operation in proactively addressing endogenous and exogenous uncertainties.

Many practical optimization problems in the area of production, distribution, logistics, IT, etc. can be classified as constrained optimization problems. Most often these are also discrete problems of a combinatorial nature. All this makes the optimization process very time-consuming and requires extensive hardware and software resources. Therefore, for large-size problems, optimization is often unprofitable. Typically, such problems are modeled and solved in mathematical programming or constraint programming environments. The paper proposes an effective method of implementing this type of problems, which enables a significant reduction in the size of the modeled problems, resulting in reduction in computation time and the computational resources involved. Intent-based networking (IBN) aims at automatically driving network configurations and operations to fulfil high-level intents specified by infrastructure providers and application operators. Deploying Virtual Network Function (VNF) chains onto the available network resources is a way to model and fulfil intents. Focussing on the Cloud-Edge continuum, this article describes and compares a mathematical programming and a declarative heuristic methodology to solve the problem of placing VNF chains to fulfil multiple intents in IBN settings. Taking the infrastructure operators' viewpoint, our approach aims at balancing the trade-off between environmental sustainability and profit. We release an open-source prototype of the proposed methodology and assess its scalability and functioning via simulation over lifelike data.

To limit global warming, advocacy has increased in support of lowering greenhouse gas emissions. For instance, in agriculture, the use of compost and bio-fertilizer is increasingly promoted. Therefore, this paper aims at investigating how sustainable agricultural policies may influence land use and farm income in the context of global climatic change. Thus, a mathematical programming model with a representative risk-neutral and profit-maximizing economic agent is applied, using survey data on 423 farmers in Togo, a West African country. The findings indicate that a combination of a subsidy and a credit policy appear to be the best incentive to promote the adoption of sustainable practices and to increase farm income. Therefore, a combination of subsidy and credit policy should be implemented to foster the adoption of sustainable practices and improve farmers' welfare.
