This paper presents the advances related to the activities carried out in an agro-industrial SME in Rafaela, Argentina. The company specializes in the commercialization of gearboxes for agricultural machinery, as well as component parts for such gearboxes as spare parts. Currently, the company lacks a planning system that allows it to organize its operations, resulting in non-compliance with agreed delivery dates (with associated costs). This paper presents an initial approach to the operations management problem (i.e., purchasing management, stock management, supplier selection, and production planning), which involves the development of a mathematical programming model. The constraints integrated into the model arise from the actual needs of the company, addressing the issue of shortages in a general sense (late deliveries of gearboxes and lost sales of component parts as spares). The objective is to define the policies to be followed in the next quarter in a way that minimizes component acquisition costs, maintains appropriate stock levels (both for gearboxes and components), and minimizes late deliveries to customers. As for the preliminary results obtained, the model was tested with a subset of products and compared with the available sales history. The results were promising: the historical operations, without a decision support tool, had less than 30 % on-time delivery (meaning that over 70 % of deliveries were made after the agreed-upon date), while the solution proposed by the model resulted in 98 % on-time deliveries, with proper management of component parts stock. © 2023 IEEE.

Real-world manufacturing scenarios usually lead to difficult assembly scheduling problems. Besides strict precedence constraints between jobs or operations, such problems incorporate constraints related to maintenance activities on working stations (machines) and specific setup times when different operations are executed on the same machine. This paper analyzes the performance of several approaches, based on mathematical programming and on (meta)heuristics, to solve flexible assembly scheduling problems characterized by an arbitrary tree-like structure of the operation network. In this context, a specific encoding of candidate solutions and some specific perturbation operators are proposed. The encoding and the operators allow the distribution of sub(batches) of operations on several machines which leads, for some assembly scheduling problems, to a significant decrease of the makespan. © 2023 Polish Information Processing Society.

The paper presents a concept that allows to identify and locate elements of the production process, the optimization of which affects the quality of the entire process. The developed concept is based on an efficient information exchange mechanism between the business layer and the technological layer through the use of enterprise architecture and process data. The practical application of the proposed concept facilitates the construction of detailed optimization/decision models for selected parts of the production process. The paper also presents the practical application of the presented concept for a sample production process for which an optimization model in the form of mathematical programming was developed. The implementation of the model taking into account all the constraints identified at the analysis stage made it possible to propose an optimal production plan and reduce interoperation stocks. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Linear and mixed integer optimisation problems have demonstrated their strength in the field of (healthcare) logistics and supply chain management for years. However, real-world optimisation problems are complex in nature, and various mathematical programming solvers are leveraged to solve these problems today. With several advances in solver technologies in recent years, there has been growing interest in carrying out comparative evaluations of solvers for a range of applications. However, there appears a lack of guidance for decision makers to conduct solver performance assessment and inter-comparison. To address this gap, we aim to derive a framework of parameters deemed most relevant for evaluating and comparing different solvers for a given application. To this end, we perform a systematic literature review. The resulting parameters are classified into three core categories: performance metrics, stopping conditions, and performance enhancing elements of a solver. The optimal operation of the distribution grid aims to efficiently manage the flow of electricity from sources to end-users, ensuring a resilient and sustainable grid. To perform optimal operation, Optimal Power Flow (OPF) plays a pivotal role in solving a complex optimization problem due to the system operational constraint and the provided OPF solutions. Traditional OPF algorithms are based on mathematical programming techniques, which can be computationally expensive and difficult to implement for complex large-scale networks. The most recent development in learning-based computational models has paradigm shifted towards data-driven approaches to OPF. This paper proposes a high-fidelity Graph Attention Networks (GAT) model that leverages the attention mechanism and graph convolution feature mapping to learn informative node representations for OPF solutions. We evaluated the proposed model on the IEEE-33 bus power distribution system, which is a representative example of a real-world distribution system. The proposed model outperformed the state-of-the-art MPGCN and DNN models in terms of loss function and performance evaluation indices. The proposed GAT model showcases its effectiveness and promises results for addressing the OPF problem in the distribution grid, as evidenced by performance evaluation metrics: MSE (0.0167), RMSE (0.1294), and MAE (0.0700), respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

Batteries should be operated such that benefits and associated chemical aging detriments are balanced. We present a mixed-integer linear approximation for the cost of calendar aging of batteries taking temperature and state of charge into account. An example with calendar and cyclic aging costs shows that the revenue from the operation of a battery can be increased by integrating aging costs into a model predictive control optimization. © 2023 IEEE.

We propose a mathematical programming model aimed to design a bicycle network which maximizes modal shift from a given potential demand. Urban planners face the problem of promoting sustainable mobility practices, including the use of bicycle for daily trips. One of the main factors which influence modal shift toward the bicycle is the existence of specialized infrastructure, which includes the network, i.e., a set of dedicated and interconnected lanes which can be used in combination with the existing street network for traveling from different origins to different destinations. The bicycle network can be built over different street sections using different infrastructure technologies, e.g., quality of pavement, which impact on the perceived travel cost and have different construction cost. In this context, the better is the network built from the point of view of travel cost, the more people currently using a different transport mode are willing to shift toward the bicycle mode. Our proposed model takes a street network, both travel and construction costs on every segment, an origin-destination matrix of potential bicycle trips and a given construction budget, and determines the segments where bicycle lanes should be built and the technology of infrastructure on each segment, so as to maximize the modal shift from the potential demand to the bicycle mode. The methodology is applied to a real case related to the city of Montevideo, Uruguay, for which we conduct sensitivity analysis and comparison with the current system. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.. The article deals with logical equations with a parameter and their algorithmic solutions on the example of the first-order logical tasks of the Unified State Exam (USE/EGE) in computer science. The introduction shows the theoretical part used in this paper to solve tasks: first-order logic, mathematical programming and optimization, features of tasks discussed. programming language solutions and their features are shown for first-order logical tasks on intervals, discrete sets, divisibility, bitwise conjunction, and multiple variables. The discussed solutions of the tasks are presented for the first time in print. © 2023 IEEE.

The optimal power flow (OPF) problem is essentially a mathematical programming that aims to seek an optimal operation condition subject to network and physical constraints. The semidefinite programming (SDP) relaxation has emerged as a popular technique to solve the OPF problem, but it often finds a high-rank solution and encounters difficulties in obtaining an exact solution for mesh network. Therefore, this paper utilizes a Riemannian optimization method to solve the low-rank optimal solution for OPF problem via SDP. Firstly, a Burer-Monteiro factorization-based augmented Lagrangian method is applied to the standard SDP of OPF. Then, the Riemannian gradient and Hessian are derived to solve the subproblem with the Riemannian trust-region method. Finally, the strategy for escaping from saddle points and the technique that adjusts the parameters for solving a low-rank solution are given. The simulation results verify the accuracy of the proposed algorithm can obtain a lower-rank solution compared to other advanced SDP solvers. © 2023 IEEE.

Production planning is a difficult and very complex issue;therefore, it is necessary to consider the enterprise as a whole, taking into account the relations between its elements. The paper presents the application of corporate architecture supported by constraint logic programming and mathematical programming to plan production processes as well as to build a corporate bus (service bus). Using the assumptions of corporate architecture and building a metamodel of corporate architecture based on good practices, it is much easier and more efficient to identify those processes that can be automated and robotized.
