A matlab program to calculate translational and rotational diffusion coefficients of a single particle

We developed a graphical user interface, matlab based program to calculate the translational diffusion coefficients in three dimensions for a single diffusing particle, suspended inside a fluid. When the particles are not spherical, in addition to their translational motion also a rotational freedom is considered for them and in addition to the previous translational diffusion coefficients a planar rotational diffusion coefficient can be calculated in this program. Time averaging and ensemble averaging over the particle displacements are taken to calculate the mean square displacement variations in time and so the diffusion coefficients. To monitor the random motion of non-spherical particles a reference frame is used that the particle just have translational motion in it. We call it the body frame that is just like the particle rotates about the z-axis of the lab frame. This paper describes the implementation of a matlab program based on the Object Oriented programming paradigm for linear-elastic analysis of one-dimensional element models using a conventional displacement-based procedure. The main objective is the development of an educational tool on matrix structural analysis with a didactic and well-documented open source code, which allows any user to implement new procedures with relative simplicity. The LESM (Linear Elements Structure Model) program can handle different types of analysis models, such as 2D/3D frames and trusses, and grillages. In addition, both Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko theories for bending behavior of beam elements are considered. The OOP class architecture was devised for generically handling these different types of analyses models and element types. The matlab script codes of all classes and methods of LESM, including its documentation, are available in its site (***/lesm).

Crystal-size distribution (CSD) theory was initially developed in material engineering to understand crystallization processes of chemical compounds (Randolph and Larson, 1971) and is now commonly used in material characterization and mineral processing. Cashman and Marsh (1988) first applied the CSD theory to igneous rocks, based on the pioneered work of Marsh (1988). The application of CSD theory in rocks provides information on textural development and petrogenesis including crystal growth and nucleation rates, crystal accumulation and fractionation, magma/ crystal mixing or post-crystallization processes (Higgins, 2006 and references therein; Jerram and Higgins, 2007; Marsh, 1988; Marsh, 1998, Vinet and Higgins, 2010, Vinet and Higgins, 2011).

The light distribution simulation of LED is very important before the production. it is necessary to do meaningful light distribution simulation before the production of LED. At present, in the market, there are very few companies which can produce LED chips, because of less investment, low threshold into line, most of the companies are doing package and application of LED, it is needed to do the design of LED light distribution. In this paper the MFC simulation program by matlab program can run in every operating system. Moreover, the design of the program is of high practicability. The research on problems of LED light distribution will bring meaningful and valuable reference and guidance for some enterprises.

In this paper, we present modified fuzzy goal programming (FGP) approach and generalized matlab program for solving multi-level linear fractional programming problems (ML-LFPPs) based on with some major modifications in earlier FGP algorithms. In proposed modified FGP approach, solution preferences by the decision makers at each level are not considered and fuzzy goal for the decision vectors is defined using individual best solutions. The proposed modified algorithm as well as matlab program simplifies the earlier algorithm on ML-LFPP by eliminating solution preferences by the decision makers at each level, thereby avoiding difficulties associate with multilevel programming problems and decision deadlock situation. The proposed modified technique is simple, efficient and requires less computational efforts in comparison of earlier FGP techniques. Also, the proposed coding of generalizedmatlab program based on this modified approach for solving ML-LFPPs is the unique programming tool toward dealing with such complex mathematical problems with matlab. This software based program is useful and user can directly obtain compromise optimal solution of MLLFPPs with it. The aim of this paper is to present modified FGP technique and generalizedmatlab program to obtain compromise optimal solution of ML-LFP problems in simple and efficient manner. A comparative analysis is also carried out with numerical example in order to show efficiency of proposed modified approach and to demonstrate functionality of matlab program. © The Author(s) 2014.

Novel algorithm and matlab-based program for automated power law analysis of single particle, time-dependent mean-square displacement

In many physical and biophysical studies, single-particle tracking is utilized to reveal interactions, diffusion coefficients, active modes of driving motion, dynamic local structure, micromechanics, and microrheology. The basic analysis applied to those data is to determine the time-dependent mean-square displacement (MSD) of particle trajectories and perform time- and ensemble-averaging of similar motions. The motion of particles typically exhibits time-dependent power-law scaling, and only trajectories with qualitatively and quantitatively comparable MSD should be ensembled. Ensemble averaging trajectories that arise from different mechanisms, e.g., actively driven and diffusive, is incorrect and can result inaccurate correlations between structure, mechanics, and activity. We have developed an algorithm to automatically and accurately determine power-law scaling of experimentally measured single-particle MSD. Trajectories can then categorized and grouped according to user defined cutoffs of time, amplitudes, scaling exponent values, or combinations. Power-law fits are then provided for each trajectory alongside categorized groups of trajectories, histograms of power laws, and the ensemble-averaged MSD of each group. The codes are designed to be easily incorporated into existing user codes. A strong magnetic field applied along the growth direction of a quantum cascade laser (QCL) active region gives rise to a spectrum of discrete energy states, the Landau levels. By combining quantum engineering of a QCL with a static magnetic field, we can selectively inhibit/enhance non-radiative electron relaxation process between the relevant Landau levels of a triple quantum well and realize a tunable surface emitting device. An efficient numerical algorithm implementation is presented of optimization of GaAs/AlGaAs QCL region parameters and calculation of output properties in the magnetic field. Both theoretical analysis and matlab implementation are given for LO-phanon and interface roughness scattering mechanisms on the operation of QCL. At elevated temperatures, electrons in the relevant laser states absorb/emit more LO-phonons which results in reduction of the optical gain. The decrease in the optical gain is moderated by the occureence of interface roughness scattering, which remains unchanged with increasing temperature. Using the calculated scattering rates as input data, rate equations can be solved and population inversion and the optical gain obtained. Incorporation of the interface roughness scattering mechanism into the model did not create new resonant peaks of the optical gain. A software program to investigate the nucleation kinetics of solution grown crystals using matlab platform

A software program has been developed on the matlab platform, which is useful for studying the nucleation kinetics of crystals grown from solutions. Nucleation parameters such as interfacial energy (sigma), metastable zone width (Delta T-max), volume free energy (Delta G(v)), critical energy barrier for nucleation (Delta G*), radius of the critical nucleus (r*) and nucleation rate (J) of the crystals are determined from classical nucleation theory. The Metastable Zone Width (MZW) of the crystals is explored by using the relation based on solubility and enthalpy of nucleation. A new polynomial equation has been generated by this software program, and the results are checked with the experimental data of crystal growth/formation. Nucleation temperature as a function of supersaturation ratio was successfully evaluated using MZW. The equation relating to the nucleation kinetics and MZW can easily be solved with the help of a newly designed software program in the matlab platform. In addition, a program has been developed that highlights changes in nucleation parameters when the supersaturation ratio is changed. The eccentricity connectivity polynomial of a molecular graph G is defined as , where ecc(u) is defined as the length of a maximal path connecting u to another vertex of G. In this article, we compute the eccentricity connectivity index and polynomial of CNCm[n] carbon nanocones for any arbitrary amount of n and m so that n 1 and 3 m 7. A matlab program is presented that is useful for computing this index and polynomial of carbon nanocones.

A heuristic algorithm for pattern identification in large multivariate analysis of geophysical data sets

This paper aims to present a heuristic algorithm with factor analysis and a local search optimization system for pattern identification problems as applied to large and multivariate aero-geophysical data. The algorithm was developed in matlab code using both multivariate and univariate methodologies. Two main analysis steps are detailed in the matlab code: the first deals with multivariate factor analysis to reduce the problem of dimension, and to orient the variables in an independent and orthogonal structure;and the second with the application of a novel local research optimization system based on univariate structure. The process of local search is simple and consistent because it solves a multivariate problem by summing up univariate and independent problems. Thus, it can reduce computational time and render the efficiency of estimates independent of the data bank. The aero-geophysical data include the results of the magnetometric and gammaspectrometric (TC, K, Th, and U channels) surveys for the Santa Maria region (RS, Brazil). After the classification, when the observations are superimposed on the regional map, one can see that data belonging to the same subspace appear closer to each other revealing some physical law governing area pattern distribution. The analysis of variance for the original variables as functions of the subspaces obtained results in different mean behaviors for all the variables. This result shows that the use of factor transformation captures the discriminative capacity of the original variables. The proposed algorithm for multivariate factor analysis and the local search system open up new challenges in aero-geophysical data handling and processing techniques. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd.
