Impossible differential cryptanalysis is an efficient cryptanalysis method in the field of block ciphers, and mixed integer linear programming (MILP) is widely used in the automatic search for impossible differentials (IDs) characteristics. In this paper, we study the two-dimensional binary impossible differential model which proposed by Liu et al. Based on this model, we add a new state difference to obtain an improved version. The new model can provide a more detailed process of the changes in state differences in the impossible differential trail. At the same time, in terms of applicability, our model is suitable for AES-like ciphers with SPN structures in block ciphers. RAIN is a lightweight block cipher with a SP-network structure that ensures security while also considering implementation at both the software and hardware levels. Compared to the previous model's search for impossible differential characteristics of RAIN-64, our improved model identified one additional round of impossible differential characteristics. In the new model, we determined the 6-round and 7-round impossible differential characteristics of RAIN-64, finding a total of 23,468 characteristics for 6 rounds and 152 characteristics for 7 rounds. Additionally, utilizing the key schedule and key-bridging techniques of RAIN-64, We proposed a 10-round impossible differential attack (IDA) on RAIN-64, where the time complexity and data complexity of the attack are 2 124.07 and 2 52 . Therefore, we have concluded that RAIN-64 is secure under the 10-round impossible differential attack. This is currently the longest rounds of distinguisher and IDA for RAIN-64.

The application of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) networks to the coverage problem in rural and low-income areas is actively studied nowadays by the research community. A UAV-based network infrastructure is different from traditional cellular networks relying on Base Stations. By mounting small cells on top of UAVs, coverage can be enhanced in regions where network operators avoid to invest due to the low Return on Investment. In case there is a requirement for an enhanced throughput in a rural area (e.g., users requesting IoT applications with strict QoS requriements), a potential solution is to place several UAV s over the same area, thus maximizing the offered throughput. However, this situation would lead to an increase in the energy consumption. To tackle this problem, this paper proposes an optimal solution to the problem of jointly maximizing the offered throughput in rural scenarios where users request microservice-based IoT applications, while minimizing the energy consumption of the swarm of UAV s. A mixed integer linear programming (MILP)-based formulation is defined and evaluated over realistic scenarios. Experimental results demonstrate how the solution is able to perform UAV placement in a way to maximize the offered throughput in the highest number of areas, while minimizing the total number of deployed UAVs.

The transmission of power from large-scale renewable energy-thermal power bundled installations via LCC-HVDC transmission system is considered as a crucial method. To ensure system stability and minimize operational costs, a stability constrained robust unit commitment (UC) model is proposed. First, the model formulates stability constraints, including short-circuit current, voltage stability, and frequency stability. Next, accounting for the N-1 safety criterion, a robust UC model is developed to handle multiple discrete scenarios. Then, a linear equivalent transformation method is devised for the proposed UC model, facilitating the conversion of the original problem into a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) problem. Finally, a modified IEEE 39-bus system is tested to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This research is dedicated to formulating a practical problem related to the assignment of oncology clinic routes. The objective is to schedule medical events for patients attending health centers, taking into account the variable demand and limited resources in this field. To achieve this, three types of solutions are considered. The first is an Online Scheduling Algorithm, which simulates a scheduling process based on medical routes and also includes its inverse version. The next is a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model. In this case, information is centralized, and patients are scheduled based on their requirements, minimizing delays in their appointments and/or medical treatments. These methodologies are compared with the current mode of assignment used. To test the previously proposed solutions, data provided by the Arturo López Perez Foundation (FALP) will be used.

In order to meet item demands, end-of-life (EOL) product and subassembly ordering and disassembly schedules are determined by disassembly lot sizing, which is the subject of this study. We take into consideration a stochastic version with undetermined ordering lead time (OLT). In this case, OLT stands for the amount of time that passes between placing and receiving an order (we can only order EOL products). Throughout the planning horizon, scenarios are used to model the stochasticity. The objective is to reduce the expected total of setup, purchasing, inventory, and backlog expenses. This is achieved by expressing the problem as a two-stage mixed integer linear programming (2S-MILP) model across all potential scenarios. The 2S-MILP is unsolvable since it is predicated on every scenario conceivable. A Simultaneous Backward Reduction approach is proposed to make it tractable. To confirm the suggested method’s efficacy, it is assessed in a variety of environments.

This paper presents a novel bidding strategy for virtual power plants considering the uncertainty associated with flexible loads. The proposed method incorporates a profit allocation mechanism and strategically excludes highly uncertain loads from bidding. The problem is formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming model. Simulations demonstrate that this approach outperforms traditional stochastic optimization methods in managing risks associated with uncertain flexible loads.

In this work, we address the problem of control synthesis for a homogeneous team of robots given a global temporal logic specification and formal user preferences for relaxation in case of infeasibility. The relaxation preferences are represented as a Weighted Finite-state Edit System and are used to compute a relaxed specification automaton that captures all allowable relaxations of the mission specification and their costs. For synthesis, we introduce a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) formulation that combines the motion of the team of robots with the relaxed specification automaton. Our approach combines automata-based and MILP-based methods and leverages the strengths of both approaches, while avoiding their shortcomings. Specifically, the relaxed specification automaton explicitly accounts for the progress towards satisfaction, and the MILP-based optimization approach avoids the state-space explosion associated with explicit product-automata construction, thereby efficiently solving the problem. The case studies highlight the efficiency of the proposed approach.

A collaborative approach based on Shapley value for carriers in the supply chain distribution

This paper addresses the problem of horizontal collaboration between carriers at the tactical planning level of the supply chain distribution. The study focuses on the relationship between a shipper and many carriers used to serve the transport requests of several geographically distributed customers. A profit sharing mechanism based on game theory is proposed in order to implement win-win collaboration between the carriers. The Shapley value is used to fairly share the profit of the grand coalition between the carriers. The collaboration is supported by mixed-integer linear programming model for the transport planning of all possible coalitions con-sisted by the carriers. The transport plans and the profit of each carrier can be generated by model simulation. The validity of the collaboration is checked by the super-additivity property of the game in each experiment. According to the subcontracting is allowed or not, the experimentations are carried out in two different contexts with realistic data sets. The experimental results show that each carrier's profit improvement is significant for all experiments, and that the collabora-tion also improves the customer service rate.

Process effectiveness in treatment shows how clean water can be treated, and maximizing it is important to achieve the water output requirements. In maximizing treatment effectiveness, optimizing the cost should also be considered to properly budget wastewater treatment plant design and operations. A mixed-integer linear programming model is developed for this, which considers treatment and storage capacity, and the treatment effectiveness of each process to ensure simultaneous minimization of cost and maximization of treatment effectiveness. The model showed that it is possible to skip treatments while having maximized effectiveness. Results show that it is mostly primary treatment that is skipped due to having high effectiveness in the secondary treatment since primary and secondary treatment removes the same byproducts. Future studies could strengthen the model by adding more factors affecting WWTP such as turbidity, temperature, and speed of flow.

This paper introduces a framework for evaluating profits and operations in hydrogen production within the context of power system operation. The model quantifies the annual revenue achieved by a hydrogen hub with a co-located wind plant, while engaging in the electric energy and gas sectors. This study differs from numerous prior research efforts that focus on a single feed-stock technology. Instead, it utilizes the marginal cost of electricity from an electricity market as a technology-neutral energy source and considers the sale of energy in the spot market and the sale of hydrogen to the gas market. The proposed model is formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming problem to account for the various operating modes, including hydrogen production, storage and delivery, hydrogen-fueled generation and wind power generation. Lastly, a detailed case study is analyzed.
