Because of combustion of fossil fuels global warming caused by environmental problems, the raising prices of crude oils and natural gases. They promote continuous effort to improve energy system and its efficiency. There is a need to search for abundant and clean energy sources due to the depleted and increasing prices of oil. Wind energy acts as an alternative renewable energy source. Wind generators are used to generate dc voltage proportional to wind speed and given to DC-DC converter through rectifier. DC-DC converter used is Buck boost type of converter. The converter output is given to battery to inverter and load. Buck boost converter gives constant output which will controlled by PWM controller and feedback control system. Feedback control system has compensation network with different types and parameters. Designing of converter gives constant output. A maximum power point tracking (mppt) technique is needed to track the peak power to maximize the produced energy. The maximum power point in the power voltage graph is identified by an algorithm called as incremental conductance method. This algorithm will identify the suitable duty cycle ratio in which buck boost converter should operate to maximum point. The mppt algorithm is vital in increasing the efficiency of the system. This output is given to battery though the H bridge inverter circuit. The ac output voltage is directly fed to low voltage grid though the PLL circuit. The control of PWM for converter, inverter, mppt algorithm and PLL is controlled by using MICROCHIP dsPIC30F4011 DSP processor. The total experimentation is carried out and results of converter, inverter, grid control and mppt characteristics are studied.

Doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) needs to get adapted to situations like rapid change in wind speed and sudden requirement for grid disturbances to meet modern grid rules. The paper explains the design of controllers for mppt algorithm for the turbine, DFIG converters, and sensorless rotor speed estimation. These intelligent controllers are used to maintain equilibrium in rotor speed, generator torque, and stator and rotor voltages. They are also designed to meet desired reference real and reactive power during the turbulences like sudden change in reactive power or voltage with concurrently changing wind speed. The turbine blade angle changes with variations in wind speed and direction of wind flow and improves the coefficient of power extracted from turbine using mppt algorithm. Rotor side converter (RSC) helps to achieve optimal real and reactive power from generator, which keeps rotor to rotate at optimal speed and to vary current flow from rotor and stator terminals. For tracking reactive power demand from grid and in maintaining synchronism when grid voltage changes due to fault at a very faster and stable way Grid side converter (GSC) is helpful. Rotor speed is estimated using stator and rotor flux estimation algorithm. Parameters like stator and rotor voltage, current, real, reactive power, rotor speed, and electromagnetic torque are studied using MATLAB simulation. The performance of DFIG is compared when there is in wind speed change only;alter in reactive power and variation in grid voltage individually along with variation in wind speed.

A novel mppt algorithm for three-phase grid-connected photovoltaic generation systems is presented in this paper. Reference is made to a conversion scheme consisting in two balanced arrays of PV modules, each one feeding a standard two-level three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI). The dc-link voltages of each VSI are regulated according with the requirement of the proposed mppt algorithm, based on the comparison of the operating points of the two PV arrays. Inverters are connected to grid by a three-phase transformer with open-ends winding configuration on inverters side. The resulting conversion structure performs as a power active filter, doubling the power capability of a single VSI, with the additional benefit of voltage multilevel waveforms. The proposed mppt algorithm has been successfully verified by numerical simulation and experimental tests.

Photovoltaic Systems are gaining importance rapidly. Their energy production is very intermittent due to the atmospheric conditions variation. So we proceed with an emulator which is an indispensable equipment to develop energy conversion systems in the laboratory. Also, mppt techniques have a vital role to extract maximum power from the PV systems. This paper deals with a design and implementation of Maximum Power Point Tracking algorithm on FPGA to enhance its efficiency for PV emulator. The PV model is simulated in Matlab/Simulink environment. The P&O algorithm is designed and implemented through XSG toolbox in a Virtex 5 FPGA development board. This control strategy has been validated by interfacing a DC-DC boost converter which is considered as a power conditioning unit for controlling the PV source operating point to improve the overall efficiency of the emulation system.

The solar energy available on earth's surface is abundant in nature, but it is intermittent in nature and depending various parameters like temperature, location and insolation. The conversion efficiency of photovoltaic modules is very low. The present work focuses on developing a Adaptive Constant voltage (ACV) Tracking algorithm Photovoltaic fed 3-phase inverter with brushless dc motor as load. The present work focus on conversion efficiency, tracking speed of Maximum power point(MPP) and to extract maximum power from solar panels, maintain constant voltage for 3-phase inverter with BLDC motor load for sudden changes in environmental conditions. The functioning of proposed mppt algorithm is tested on a laboratory scaled prototype. The hardware test setup consists of Photovoltaic modules, DC-DC converter, 3-phase intelligent power module inverter and Digital signal Processor(DSP). The simulation and experimental results from the hardware test setup are presented and discussed. The Proposed algorithm performance is stable and good. The tracking speed is increased and oscillations in the system is reduced under dynamic weather changes.

This paper presents an implementation of the maximum power point tracking algorithm based on the real time measurements and model based simulation. For the supervision of a photovoltaic panel, different cases of shading are used. We want to focus our attention on the advanced control for the supervision of a photovoltaic system in accordance with the need to maximize the energy output of the photovoltaic systems. The experimental results have verified the performance and the feasibility of the proposed system.

Design of an efficient bipolar converter with fast mppt algorithm for DC nanogrid application

A single-input bipolar converter has been proposed along with a fast mppt tracking algorithm. The proposed converter is used as an interface for PV panel to perform twofold task of effectively extracting the maximum power from the PV side and efficiently delivering the extracted power to the load. For effectively tracking the MPP (maximum power point) of PV panel, a modified perturb and observe (MP&O) algorithm has been proposed in the paper. Proposed algorithm works effectively even under fast variations of irradiation and ambient temperature. The proposed converter has been developed with a target application in DC nanogrid by providing two loading points with amplitude balanced bipolar outputs. Moreover, least input current ripple (compared with other conventional DC-DC converters) aids the MPP algorithm in improving the tracking efficacy. As the proposed converter has synchronous switching operation at both output terminals referred to input side, the power conversion efficiency of the converter is very high. Two out of three switches used are ground referenced;thus, design complexity of the converter is greatly reduced. Proposed converter with the MP&O algorithm has been analyzed, and the simulation results are obtained using MATLAB/Simulink. A laboratory developed prototype is used to experimentally validate the proposed converter.

Performance Optimization of a Ten Check mppt algorithm for an Off-Grid Solar Photovoltaic System

In order to operate a solar photovoltaic (PV) system at its maximum power point (MPP) under numerous weather conditions, it is necessary to achieve uninterrupted optimal power production and to minimize energy losses, energy generation cost, and payback time. Under partial shading conditions (PSC), the formation of multiple peaks in the power voltage characteristic curve of a PV cell puzzles conventional MPP tracking (mppt) algorithms trying to identify the global MPP (GMPP). Meanwhile, soft-computing mppt algorithms can identify the GMPP even under PSC. Drawbacks such as structural complexity, computational complexity, huge memory requirements, and difficult implementation all affect the viability of soft-computing algorithms. However, those drawbacks have been successfully overcome with a novel ten check algorithm (TCA). To improve the performance of the TCA in terms of mppt speed and efficiency, a novel concept of data arrangement is introduced in this paper. The proposed structure is referred to as Optimized TCA (OTCA). A comparison of the proposed OTCA and classic TCA algorithms was conducted for standard benchmarks. The results proved the superiority of the OTCA algorithm compared to both TCA and flower pollination (FPA) algorithms. The major advantage of OTCA in mppt stems from its speed as compared to TCA and FPA, with almost 86% and 90% improvement, respectively.

This paper presents a novel adaptive neural network (ANN) for maximum power point tracking (mppt) in photovoltaic (PV) systems under variable working conditions. The ANN-based mppt model includes two separate NNs for PV system identification and control. NNs are trained by using of a novel back propagation algorithm in pre/ post control phases. Because of online optimal performance of NNs, the proposed method, not only overcome the common drawbacks of the conventional mppt methods, but also gives a simple and a robust mppt scheme. Simulation results, which carried on MATLAB, show that proposed controller is the most effective in comparison with conventional mppt approaches.
