The Direction - of - Arrival estimation is a ubiquitous task in array signal processing with applications in radar, sonar, acoustics, astronomy, communications, medical imaging and military applications. For this reason, several techniques were developed for estimating the arrival direction of signals. The initial methods for estimating the direction of arrival were Bartlett and Capon, but the MUltiple SIgnal Classification (music) algorithm is one of the most popular subspace-based techniques for estimating the directions-of-arrival of multiple signal sources. This paper is making a study of techniques for estimating the signals at arrival, when at the reception a linear array of antennas is used. The presented techniques are based on the estimation of the spectrum obtained at the reception. It shows a comparison between the methods implemented: Bartlett, Capon and music.

Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation is an important research direction of the array signal processing in many fields, such as radar, communications, sonar etc. which has very broad application prospects. However, in the processing of spatial spectrum estimation, the array errors including mutual errors and amplitude and phase errors are hard to be ignored, which may cause discrepancies between array manifold and hypothetical model, thus DOA algorithm performance model based on the ideal model decreases, which will affect the actual application of DOA algorithm. Therefore, it is significant to strengthen the stability of spatial spectrum estimation in actual application. They will be discussed in this paper including method of correcting errors under the circumstance that multiple errors exist at the same time. It is mainly about the common inconsistencies errors of amplitude and phase and array elements mutual coupling error, which are combined with music algorithm of subspace class used in uniform linear arrays (ULAs).

Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation based on array signal processing is the main content of spatial spectrum estimation. Multiple Signal Classification (music) is the most classical super-resolution spatial spectrum estimation method. Under ideal condition, the algorithm can precisely estimate the DOA of uncorrelated signals. However, the performance of music algorithm will degrade seriously or even fail in the coherent source signal estimation. In the condition that many artificial signals have cyclostationary characteristics which use the target signal information, circular cross correlation music algorithm can further improve the quality of signal processing and have better noise suppressing property and resolution. But it is restricted to the cyclic correlation signal resolution. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved circular cross correlation music algorithm. Simulation results show that the performance of the improved circular cross correlation music algorithm is superior to the conventional music algorithm and circular cross correlation music algorithm in noise suppressing and signal selectivity.

This paper mainly analyzes the rank deficiency in coprime sampling (CPS) which causes the failure of signal recovery. Due to the fact that the rank of convariance matrix has close relation with the way of arranging the signal matrix, the conditions of rank deficiency are different when using different processing methods. There are two popular methods used to recover signal from samples collected by CPS, i.e., direct estimation (DE) and multicoset sampler (MC) equivalence. These two methods are both based on Multiple Signal Classification (music) algorithm to search for the support of input signal. After analysis and comparison, the MC equivalence is much less likely to suffer from rank deficiency than DE. Furthermore, the MC equivalence has higher anti-noise capability and less computation. So it is concluded in this paper that MC equivalence is a preferred method employed in CPS whether the input is a multitone signal or a multiband signal.

In this paper, the research progress based on high-resolution spectral estimation in microphone array sound source localization is discussed. The application of Multiple Signal Classification (music) algorithm in sound source location is studied, and the effect of the algorithm in one and two dimensions is compared. Through the simulation experiments of one-dimension and two-dimensional music algorithm, the paper verifies the advantages of two-dimensional music algorithm in positioning accuracy compared with one-dimensional algorithm. In addition, the processing idea and flow of music algorithm are introduced in detail, including signal model, signal and noise subspace, sensor covariance matrix estimation, and spatial translation processing of related sources. The results show that music algorithm has high accuracy and reliability in sound source location, which provides an important reference for further application and research of sound source location technology.

In wireless communications, the signal that a base station receive cannot be regarded as a point source because of the multipath propagation. A distributed source model is more suitable for the realistic scenario due to some environmental phenomenon. This paper presents subspace based method for distributed source direction of arrival estimation. Using nested sparse circular arrays, we are capable of estimating more distributed sources than the number of sensors. Simulation results confirms the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, a modified music algorithm, namely, VA-music is presented for the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of noncircular signal sources. By using the conjugate counterpart of the array output, a virtual array is formed to extend the equivalent array aperture, so that it can handle more sources than sensors. Then, based on dividing the virtual array into many subarrays, and composing a new covariance matrix, the new algorithm is capable of estimating both uncorrelated and correlated signals simultaneously. Moreover, the performance of the new DOA algorithm is investigated and compared with the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB). Finally, computer simulation results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed algorithm.

As a new type of underwater acoustic sensors, the principle of the MEMS hydrophone is introduced in this paper. music is a algorithm for estimating the parameter of the signal and it has a high resolution. In order to verify DOA estimation performance of MEMS vector array, experiment has been done. the experiments results showed that the MEMS vector array can achieve DOA estimation and track the underwater moving target. thus, it is concluded the feasibility of the MEMS vector array.

To extract acoustical signal of the main speaker in noisy environment, a signal transmission model was established based on cross microphone array in this paper. According to the signal transmission model, the main speaker's direction was estimated by utilizing improved music, and then using a spatial filtering method to track and pick up the main speaker's voice through the microphone array. Experimental results show that it is feasible and reasonable to extract acoustical signal of the main speaker in noisy environment by using the novel method, and it is more accurately to estimate the direction of the desired signal And after processed by the novel method, the desired signal' SNR is enhanced and the interference signals are well suppressed.

Partial discharge especially corona discharge is the main reason for the outdoor insulation deterioration. It's necessary and valuable to locate the corona occurred outside the electrical equipment timely and accurately. Ultrasonic location method is an effective way in corona discharge detection. In this paper, a corona discharge location method based on double helix ultrasonic sensor array is proposed. Firstly, the location array and the music algorithm is introduced. Secondly, MATLAB simulation is performed to simulate a corona source which emits ultrasonic narrowband single with space noise, and this paper calculated the location results of the source using music algorithm, which is of great accuracy. Finally, laboratory experiment is also performed in the paper, and this paper successfully located the signal emitted from a transducer which emits 21kHz ultrasonic pulse signals. Based on the simulation and experiment, the result shows that the error of ultrasonic location based on double helix array is less than 2% in MATLAB simulation and 10% in experiment, which means this array can successfully locate the corona source, and thus has potential for engineering application.
