This work addresses the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation issue with multiple noncoherent subarrays. We use a maximum likelihood approach to derive a weighted music (w-music) algorithm for such arrays, which obtains the overall spatial spectrum via combining the weighted music spectrum of the subarrays. Theoretical analysis and numerical examples demonstrate that the w-music algorithm has a better performance compared to a previously introduced music algorithm for noncoherent subarrays.

Three different methods of spectrum reproduction and interferogram processing are discussed and contrasted in this paper. Especially, the nonparametric model of music (multiple signal classification) algorithm is firstly brought into the practical spectrum reconstruction processing. The experimental results prove that this method has immensely improved the resolution of reproduced spectrum, and provided a better math model for super advanced resolving power in spectrum reconstruction. The usefulness and simplicity of the technique will lead the interference imaging spectrometers to almost every field into which the spectroscopy has ventured and into some where it has not gone before. A Mach-Zehnder (M-Z) interferometer formed by two cascaded long-period fiber gratings (LPFGs) serving as 'many' multi-channel edge filters is used to detect the wavelength shift, induced by measurand of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors with high optical SNR of > 60 dB due to the use of a fiber ring laser, for the first time to our knowledge. Advantages of such a demodulation device are low-cost, compact, easy fabrication and implementation, good immunity of vibration and temperature, etc. In addition, in order to improve the resolution for dynamic strain measurement, a spectral analyzing algorithm called music modem spectrum estimation is adapted. The experimental results show that a dynamic strain resolution of 0.1 mu epsilon/Hz(1/2) at 700 Hz is obtained, which is 10 times improvement in strain resolution when compared with conventional FFT method. This letter proposes a one-dimensional multiple signal classification (music) algorithm for the joint angle and range estimation in monostatic multi-input multi-output (MIMO) radar with frequency diverse array (FDA). The proposed algorithm can reduce the computational complexity greatly compared to the two-dimensional music (2D-music) algorithm but have the same performance as the 2D-music algorithm. Simulation results verify the performance of the proposed algorithm.

The channel outputs are sampled on nonuniform sampling sets, and an analysis of the sensitivity of music algorithm with nonuniform sampling (NUS) is investigated. it is demonstrated that it may be capable to select the nonuniform sampled received signal of interesting using music algorithm. NUS in the time domain is equivalent to construct a virtual nonuniform array through a virtual array transformation, which expands the relative phase difference of the received signal at the different sensors just as that of nonuniform linear array (NLA) arising by the antenna placement. Simulations are conducted to verify that using NUS is beneficial to reduce the system complexity as sampling wide frequency signals at low sampling rate, and greatly improve the DOA estimation performance in lower SNR than using typical uniform sampling with music algorithm.

Processing the matrix signals of vector hydrophone was critical to the research on engineering application of vector matrix. However, such processing required massive computation. Accordingly, a vector matrix based modification of music algorithm was introduced to solve such issue. The said modification lowered computation amount by applying the Wiener Filter in music algorithm to skip decomposition of eigenvalues. The method of vector hydrophone Uniform Linear Array (ULA) was adopted to test the performance of the modified algorithm. The computer simulated outcome has verified the effectiveness of such modified music algorithm, showing that the modified music algorithm can clearly distinguish the coherent signals, and is superior to the original music algorithm.

Even though Pulse-Doppler radar estimates velocity by measuring phase shift amount between pulses, the visible Doppler range is limited by Pulse-Repetition-Interval (PRI). In radio wave, Doppler frequency occurs from moving target as well as sound wave and the phase shift information should include slightly in samples of individual pulses. In this study, music algorithm is applied to measure these minute shift. We show experimental results on Doppler shift amount estimation by using both fast-time and slow-time and show that the shift amount can be measured without depending on PRI.

The music algorithm is researched in the planar antenna array. The conventional direction of arrival (DOA) estimation method in the planar array antennas uses the technology of beam scanning. It needs a lot of array element. To the finite conformal array DOA estimation, the resolution ratio will be affected by the Rayleigh limit. While, the music algorithm can fully utilize the orthogonality of noise subspace and signal subspace, it can achieve the DOA estimation through the spectrum peak search. Based on the planar array antenna, the Bartlett beam-forming method the CAPON minimum variance method and the music algorithm are analyzed and simulated. The simulation results show that the music algorithm has higher resolution relative to the two traditional algorithms.
