A chipless radio frequency identification, RFID, tag is a structure that, when excited, scatters a unique signature which is inherent to the structure. Data is encoded as natural resonances in the structure and retrieved from the scattered field. Data retrieval is based on Singularity-Expansion-Method (SEM) analysis in the complex frequency domain using target identification techniques. If we are to retrieve the data from a pole signature, we must first extract the poles from the scattered fields (a summation of damped sinusoidal waveforms). This is accomplished by considering the scattered time-domain waveform and using one of several methods for extracting poles. For the work presented in this paper, we used matrix pencil algorithm which has the ability to cope with noise.

Application of matrix pencil algorithm to Mobile Robot Localization Using Hybrid DOA/TOA Estimation

Localization plays an important role in robotics for the tasks of monitoring, tracking and controlling a robot. Much effort has been made to address robot localization problems in recent years. However, despite many proposed solutions and thorough consideration, in terms of developing a low-cost and fast processing method for multiple-source signals, the robot localization problem is still a challenge. In this paper, we propose a solution for robot localization with regards to these concerns. In order to locate the position of a robot, both the coordinate and the orientation of a robot are necessary. We develop a localization method using the matrix pencil (MP) algorithm for hybrid detection of direction of arrival (DOA) and time of arrival (TOA). TOA of the signal is estimated for computing the distance between the mobile robot and a base station (BS). Based on the distance and the estimated DOA, we can estimate the mobile robot's position. The characteristics of the algorithm are examined through analysing simulated experiments and the results demonstrate the advantages of our method over previous works in dealing with the above challenges. The method is constructed based on the low-cost infrastructure of radio frequency devices;the DOA/TOA estimation is performed with just single value decomposition for fast processing. Finally, the MP algorithm combined with tracking using a Kalman filter allows our proposed method to locate the positions of multiple source signals.

As installed wind energy capacity increase, the low Frequency oscillation parameters may change. In order to accurately detect the low Frequency oscillation parameters, a algorithm based on the matrix pencil and stabilization diagram was proposed. It's difficult to get the order of oscillation signal, so it's necessary to find a proper method to determine the order. We calculate the order of oscillation signal stabilization diagram by using the stabilization diagram. After this, The matrix pencil algorithm is used to extract the frequency and damping of each component of system signal. In the end, the simulation results show when SNR is high, it still accurately identified the parameters in the different systems.

Novel Transmission-Line Pilot Protection Based on Frequency-Domain Model Recognition

Accurate frequency components of fault transient signals can be analyzed by the matrix pencil algorithm. By means of the matrix pencil algorithm, a new pilot protection principle for transmission lines based on frequency-domain model recognition is presented in this paper. First, the frequency-domain models at the internal and external state are built. Then, two model errors are defined for the two models to distinguish internal faults from external faults since the characteristics of the two frequency-domain models are opposite. For an internal fault, the fault data satisfy the internal fault model, and the internal fault-based model error is equal to zero. While for an external fault, the fault data satisfy the external fault model, and the external fault-based model error is equal to zero. Thus, the fault can be distinguished easily by model recognition. Besides the fundamental frequency component, an aperiodic component and other frequency components extracted by the matrix pencil algorithm are also applied in the protection to make the principle suitable in fault steady and fault transient state. Eventually, data from both Electromagnetic Transients Program simulation and dynamic physical simulation demonstrate that the novel pilot principle can detect the internal fault quickly and reliably, immune to the impacts of capacitive current and transition resistances.

Distance relaying algorithm for phasor measurement unit assisted zone-3 relays of series compensated wind integrated system

The signals of wind integrated system are contaminated with inter-harmonic components which may result in erroneous calculations of apparent impedance seen by the distance relays. Therefore, it is indispensable to filter these signals before being used by relays. Presently, the measurements obtained from phasor measurement units (PMUs) are effectively used by distance relays for zone-3 protection. However, PMUs use discrete Fourier transform (DFT) algorithm to compute phasors which may produce incorrect results in presence of inter-harmonics. To overcome this issue, a matrix pencil method is proposed as a pre-processing filtering technique for PMU assisted distance relays. The analog input signals to PMUs are filtered by the matrix pencil algorithm to eliminate inter-harmonics present in the signals and the phasors are computed using DFT algorithm. These phasors are utilized by zone-3 distance relays to estimate the impedance trajectories. To test the effectiveness of proposed distance relaying algorithm, IEEE 14-bus system with a series compensated line is integrated with wind energy and is simulated under diverse test cases of different operating conditions. The impacts of fault resistances, type of faults and fault inception angles on the performance of proposed technique are examined and the results are compared with different signal processing techniques.

This paper proposes an analytical model of the indoor Low-Voltage (LV) narrowband Power Line Communication (PLC) channel in the frequency range from 10 to 500 kHz. After the experimental demonstration of the frequency selective attenuation and the non-linear phase response of the PLC channel, a multipath transmission channel model is described by the superposition of delayed and attenuated propagation paths echoes. The low-frequency power line cable attenuation is linearly approximated based on two-conductor Transmission Line (TL) theory and field measurements. The matrix pencil (MP) algorithm is used for the model parameters identification and allows, with a quick convergence and a very low residual error, to detect the dominant propagation paths number as well as their corresponding weighting factors and delays. The proposed model, which is defined for any topology with a limited set of parameters, is validated through experimental measurements in the CENELEC/FCC/ARIB bands.

The subsynchronous oscillation of HVDC system may be induced under certain conditions. Based on the chaotic optimization algorithm, which can be used to optimize the parameters of the controller and avoid falling into local optimum, this algorithm is used to design additional sub-synchronous damping controller. By using this algorithm, the optimal parameters of the controller in different operating modes are found by taking the damping ratio as the objective function, so as to suppress the sub-synchronous oscillations. Finally, a HVDC project is taken as an example model, and PSCAD/EMTDC simulation program and matrix beam algorithm are used to verify the effectiveness of the damping controller.

Power capacitors suffer multiple impulse voltages during their lifetime. With the multiple impulse voltage aging, the internal insulation, oil-film dielectric may deteriorate and even fail in the early stage, which is called accumulative effect. Hence, the time-domain dielectric response of oil-film dielectric with multiple impulse voltage aging is studied in this paper. At first, the procedure of the preparation of the tested samples were introduced. Secondly, an aging platform, impulse voltage generator was built to test the accumulative effect of capacitor under multiple impulse voltage. Then, a device was used to test the time-domain dielectric response (polarization depolarization current, PDC) of oil-film dielectric in different aging states. And finally, according to the PDC data, extended Debye model and characteristic parameters were obtained by matrix pencil algorithm identification. The results indicated that with the increase of impulse voltage times, the time-domain dielectric response of oil-film dielectric changed accordingly. The polarization current curve moved up gradually, the insulation resistance decreased when subjected to the repeated impulses. In frequency domain, the frequency spectrum of tan delta changed along with the impulse accumulation aging, especially at low frequency. At last, combined with the aging mechanism of oil-film dielectric under multiple impulse voltage, the test results were discussed.

In this paper, a novel distance protection algorithm in frequency domain is introduced. Based on the R-L model of transmission lines, this algorithm is derived from the linear equations which are obtained in fault condition network and 0-module network for single-phase-to-earth fault. Considering that transformers usually ground directly in high voltage power systems, a linear equation with three coefficients is deduced based on the inductive 0-sequence system impedance. Theoretical analysis and simulation results prove that the algorithm is accurate when faults happen at the remote terminal and it will get a positive fault distance error when faults happen around the remote terminal. This phenomenon shows that the algorithm effectively prevents overreach action of distance relays. Meanwhile, this algorithm has a high ability of anti-resistance and is expected to form a new distance protection.
