The purpose of the present paper was to reveal the migration pattern of shirauo Salangichthys microdon Bleeker, in the Ishikari River system and its adjacent coastal sea areas. To this end, the strontium-calcium (Sr:Ca) ratios of the otoliths of 98 individuals were examined. Profiles of the Sr:Ca ratios during the life history after hatching in the estuary of the Ishikari River fell into two different patterns. One was characterized by a high (slightly fluctuating) Sr:Ca ratio throughout the life history;the other was characterized by an initial high Sr:Ca ratio followed by a lower value later in life. The former pattern was considered to be that of estuary-sea residents and the latter that of upstream migrants. Most upstream migrants migrated upstream once, although several did it twice. Back-calculated body lengths during the upstream and seaward migrations of the upstream migrants varied widely from 6.4 mm to 39.8 mm and from 13.5 mm to 79.4 mm, respectively. These findings suggest that estuary-sea residents and upstream migrants co-occurred spatiotemporally, and suggest a wide variation in migration patterns in the shirauo's life history.

Migratory birds have evolved diverse migration strategies in response to a variety of factors, but information about the detailed migration patterns of Asian songbirds is not yet available. To understand the short-distance migration pattern of declining Yellow-throated Buntings (Emberiza elegans) in East Asia, we analyzed stable isotopes from the outermost tail feathers (rectrices) of individual buntings collected in Korea and Japan. Temporal changes in feather hydrogen (?H-2(f)) and oxygen (?O-18(f)) isotopic values at stopover islands suggested that northern populations start migration earlier than southern populations, especially in autumn. Latitudinal gradient?in ?H-2(f) values of three wintering populations implied that northern breeders wintered farther north than southern breeders. The migration pattern of this bunting, known as Type II chain migration, was also inferred from hydrogen isotope-based geographic assignments of feather growth origins. Our data demonstrate that stable isotope analysis may help to bridge current knowledge gaps in songbird migration despite coarsely mapped isoscapes and as-of-yet undetermined isotope calibration functions in Asia.

Analysis of Degradation Kinetics and migration pattern of Chlorfenapyr in Celery (Apium graveliens L.) and Soil Under Greenhouse Conditions at Different Elevations

The degradation kinetics and migration pattern of chlorfenapyr in celery and soil at Lhasa and Pengzhou were investigated. A simple, rapid analytical method for the quantification of chlorfenapyr in celery and soil was developed using gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometer. The results indicated that the half-lives of chlorfenapyr in celeries and soils at Lhasa were 6.3 days and 12.8 days. While the half-lives of chlorfenapyr in celeries and soils at Pengzhou were 6.9 days and 20.4 days. The half-lives of chlorfenapyr in celeries and soils at Lhasa were shorter than that at Pengzhou, while the half-lives of chlorfenapyr in soils at Lhasa and Pengzhou were longer than that in celeries at Lhasa and Pengzhou. The final residues of chlorfenapyr in celeries at Lhasa and Pengzhou were 5.074 +/- 0.144 mg/kg and 5.981 +/- 0.234 mg/kg after 7 days of spraying, respectively. When chlofenapyr was sprayed to soils only, the average root concentration factor of chlorfenapyr were 3.57-4.02, while the average translocation factor of chlorfenapyr in leaves and stems were 0.28-0.38 and 0.20-0.25, respectively. Chlorfenapyr was easy to migrate from soil to the roots of celery, followed by leaves and stems. The limit value of chlorfenapyr in celery has not been specified in China's National MRL standard (GB 2763 in National food safety standard-maximum residue limits for pesticides in food. Standard, Beijing, 2021), this study was useful to draw up the limit values of chlorfenapyr residues in celery at different elevations.

The migration pattern of lymphoid cells in long-term p.o. [per os] immunized and control mice using the transfer of 51Cr-labeled cells from spleen, Peyer''s patches and mesenteric [MLN] or peripheral lymph nodes [PLN] was studied. There are no differences between the homing activity of spleen or PLN cells to different organs of recipient animals. Peyer''s patch cells from SRBC[sheep red blood cell]-sensitized mice home significantly more to the gut of antigen-fed mice;also the MLN cells from these mice exhibit a higher localization in the gut ot SRBC-fed mice. There were no differences between the localization of antigen (SRBC) in different organs of SRBC-fed and control mice. The clearance of this antigen was higher in SRBC-sensitized animals.

The migration pattern of a monogamous shorebird challenges existing hypotheses explaining the evolution of differential migration

Differential migration by sex, where one sex migrates further than the other, occurs in many bird species. How this pattern evolves is however little understood. The first aim of this study was to investigate the extent of differential migration in the common ringed plover Charadrius hiaticula, breeding in southeast Sweden, and test three main hypotheses (the social dominance, body size and arrival time hypothesis) regarding the evolution of differential migration. Geolocators were used to derive spatiotemporal data and morphometrics were collected from the studied population. Males migrated 800 km farther compared to females, were marginally larger and there was no statistical difference in spring arrival between the sexes. In contrast to other studies none of the previously proposed hypotheses could account for the observed pattern. An additional finding was that both sexes arrive up to 1.5 months before egg laying, but males initiate territorial behavior upon arrival. Based on these observations we suggest that males have a higher energetic demand, and challenges to meet those, early in the breeding season. Therefore we hypothesize that males arrive to the breeding site with residual fuel reserves accumulated at the wintering site to cover at least parts of these demands. Based on this hypothesis we present a simple model to explain the longer migration by males. The model is contingent on a trade-off between site specific fueling rates (which we assume to increase with decreasing latitude), cost of the extra migration distance and predation risk during fueling. This framework may be applicable to other cases of differential migration, especially in temperate breeding species which exhibit long pre-egg laying periods. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. Research productivity of female research scholars and their migration pattern in pursuit of higher education and research

Although women comprise about 49% population of India, they constitute only 15% of the total manpower engaged in R&D in science and technology (S&T) 1 . Over the years, women enrolment in science at graduation level has improved and the percentage of women earning doctorates in biological and chemical science is now close to 50%. However, the ratio of women scientists entering the workforce is still low 1 . The gross enrolment ratio (GER) for higher education is 13% in India as compared to 23.2% of the world. The GER for higher education in India for females is reported to be 11% as compared to 15.3% in case of males. Gender disparities in the net enrolment ratio (NER) have also been reported 2 . Though the enrolment of women in professional courses has steadily increased from 12.35% in 2004–05 to 18.45% in 2008–09 (ref. 3), the enrolment of women in science was stagnant at 19.98% in 2008–09 in contrast to 20.18% in 2004–05 (ref. 3).

Glenoid wear and migration pattern of a humeral head resurfacing implant: a prospective study using radio stereometric analysis

Background: The humeral head resurfacing arthroplasty (HHR) is normally used as a hemi shoulder arthroplasty and has been in use for the treatment of Gleno-Humeral osteoarthritis (OA) of the shoulder for more than 30 years. Some studies, however, shows that anatomical total shoulder arthroplasty provides better improvement in function than a HHR for patients with OA. Reasons for this may be a progressive glenoid wear (GW) or loosening of the HHR. We, therefore, wanted to investigate the migration pattern of the HHR and also GW by using radio stereometric analysis (RSA). Methods: 21 patients (21 shoulders) with OA and a mean age of 64 years were enrolled in the study. They all received the Copeland humeral resurfacing head and were followed for 2 years with RSA. We evaluated the clinical outcome at 2 years with Western Ontario Osteoarthritis of the Shoulder (WOOS), EuroQol 5 dimension 3L and Constant Shoulder Score. In addition, we assessed data on WOOS and revisions until 5 years follow-up by using the local clinic data within the Swedish Shoulder Arthroplasty Register. Results: After an initial migration at two months the implants were stable in relation to the humerus with no statistically significant difference between the 2 months and the 2 years value (P = .23). The GW continued to increase during the study period with an initial migration of mean 2.3 mm and at 2 years 3.5 mm with a statistically difference between the 6 months and 2 years value (P = .046). The WOOS, EuroQol 5 dimension 3L and Constant Shoulder Score were all improved at 2 years compared to the preoperative values. We found a weak correlation between GW at 2 years and the WOOS score at 2 and 5 years, but these did not reach statistical significance. There were 4 revisions within 5 years after the primary operation, all due to pain. Through various measures such as field geological survey, observation of hand specimens and analysis of major elements, we studied the migration pattern of major elements of the bauxite in Zhangjiayuan Syncline, Wuchuan-Zheng, an- DaoZhen(short for WZD) area of Northern Guizhou Province. The results show that: the Al element was negatively correlated with Si and Fe, but it was not completely synchronous, which indicates the complexity of the mineral transformation during the migration process and the result of superposition of multi-period migration;Al and Ti presented highly positive correlation, and both were relatively stable with certain correlation during the mineralization process;Al was enriched in the central area, Si and Fe presented the tendency of downward aggregation, but the migration scale of elements of the bauxite in Zhangjiayuan Syncline was smaller than that in the karst bauxite in Zunyi.

The migration pattern of the Charnley femoral stem: a five-year follow-up RSA study in a well-functioning patient group

Background Implant stability is considered vital to longtime implant survival in total hip arthroplasty (THA), since loose implants are reported to be a major cause of hip revision. There is an association between early implant micromotion and increased risk of revision. More implantspecific data are needed to establish acceptable levels of early implant movement. Materials and methods Thirty-five patients (36 hips) undergoing Charnley THA were followed with repeated clinical, radiographic, and radiostereometric analysis (RSA) over 5 years. Twenty-three patients attended 5 years postoperatively. Results The patient group was well functioning based on the radiological and clinical evaluations. The stems constantly moved up to 5 years postoperatively, with subsidence, retroversion, and varus tilt, based on the RSA. Conclusion Continuous movement of the Charnley stem was observed up to 5 years postoperatively in a wellfunctioning patient group. The migration data presented herein could be useful when defining acceptable migration limits for certain types of cemented femoral stems.

dDespite the economic and ecological impact of the brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens infestation associated with rice cultivation in India, studies on its genetic structure are lacking. Hence, the present study was conducted to assess the genetic variability of N. lugens in India. The study evaluated the diversity in N. lugens populations using mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene sequences from India, and compared them with the Bangladesh, China and Japan populations. In all, 47 unique haplotypes were identified and the haplotype number varied from 6 to 18 in the sampled populations. Genetic diversity indices like nucleotide diversity (0.004), average number of nucleotide differences (1.98), haplotype diversity (0.667) and haplotype number (47) of N. lugens populations from India revealed a low level of genetic diversity. A highly significant negative correlation of the demographic history of N. lugens populations along with no significant sum of square deviations indicated possible recent expansion of the brown planthopper in India. A nonsignificant correlation in isolation pattern by distance results indicated that geographic barriers present in the country are not sufficient for genetic differentiation among N. lugens from different migratory populations. In this study, the genetic diversity of N. lugens populations from India is compared with other Asian populations.
