The “Target Model” for the European electricity markets integration has received the attention of regulators, economists and market designers in the last years, namely the substitution of local electricity markets with a harmonized multi-area market, with same market segments in all European countries. In view of this market integration, a Europe-wide market-splitting model is presented in this paper, in which each national market retains its regulatory framework/design, namely remains a power pool or a Power Exchange. The developed model is tested in a Europe-wide test case, comprising three power pools and twenty two existing and prospective Power Exchanges. The model solution and the computational efficiency of the proposed implementation are presented here.

This paper addresses the cyclic multi-hoist scheduling problem. The problem arises in automated electroplating lines where multiple hoists are operating on a shared track. A number of parts are processed periodically and are categorized in different types of products. For each type of product a different processing sequence and processing time windows are supported. All parts of the same product are identical. A different number of parts for each product within a cycle is possible. The general processing sequences may be different from the location sequence of the tanks and multi functional resources are considered. A multi-degree cyclic mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model for optimizing the cycle time is presented, considering in particular the spacial dimensions of hoists and their collision. There are no restrictions concerning the start and end of loaded or empty hoist moves. The collision avoidance is formulated with the help of spacial relations of the movement. The model supports fixed and processing times with time windows.
This paper considers open-shop scheduling with no intermediate buffer to minimize total tardiness. This problem occurs in many production settings, in the plastic molding, chemical, and food processing industries. The...

The global dwelling energy management problem can be formalized as an optimization problem of energy consumption/production. An optimal solution for the home energy management problem is usually solved by centralized solvers. The solver gets the totality of the thermal model of the dwelling but also each appliance composing the system. Nevertheless, this centralized resolution has some limits due to some particular appliances. For example: the appliances with a non-sharable model because of the manufacturer, the appliances that need some precisions that cannot be included in their standard representation used by the solver, the appliances which require specific solvers and the appliances that are managed by user-defined specific heuristic rules. This work proposes to combine the centralized solving approach for energy management problem in dwellings with a multi-agent solving system. The multi agent system provides the possibility of integrating specific models in the global solving of the problem. The proposed system is a mixed centralized/decentralized approach for the solving of global energy management problem. In this paper we present the system and the results of the perfamance tests realized. This work is part of the ANR project ReActivHome.

Residential energy management is an important research topic due to the opportunities offered by the coming of Smart Grid, and increasing concern of greenhouse gas emissions. This works demonstrates the formulation and use of optimization to improve energy consumption and production schedules for a single dwelling, and how to integrate it using a moving window error correcting algorithm. The presented numerical results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms a baseline model without the mowing window algorithm, and is more robust against forecast errors and fluctuations beyond the scope of the scheduling period.

Multi-layer network optimization has been studied for efficient use of network resources by solving mixed integer linear programming (MILP) problem. Here, the multi-layer network consists of lambda-layer network and IP-layer network. However, when applying this MILP problem for a large-scale network with a few hundred nodes, huge amount of variables are used and cannot be handled by middle size computers. In order to cope with this problem, some heuristic methods have been proposed and evaluated from viewpoints of accuracy and calculation time for their computation results. These heuristic methods reduce variables at lambda-layer and also decompose the original MILP problem into smaller sub-problems and induce an approximate solution by solving these smaller MILP problems. However, these heuristic methods cannot obtain accurate results in many cases. In this paper, we propose a novel variable reduction method at both lambda-layer and IP-layer by excluding long hop routes. We evaluate our proposed method and the conventional methods and show the availability of our method.

In recent years, the number of people affected by natural disasters and in particular tsunamis has been increasing. Artificial Intelligence and Operation Research approaches to simulate crowd evacuation and make cities ready for Tsunamis are critical interest. Given an extremely simple model of human behavior, i.e. a memory-less stochastic agent, we address the problem of optimizing the placement of Tsunami evacuation signs with respect to evacuation time and casualties. Moreover, we formalize this optimization problem as a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) problem and we run some experiments with a MILP solver on two scenarios of early warning evacuation for the road network of Nhatrang city in Vietnam.

Nowadays, clock skew becomes a manageable resource to improve circuits by assigning a certain clock delay to each register. However, it has been reported that implementing a large spectrum of dedicated clock delays becomes challenging in a reliable manner under several uncertainties. To overcome this limitation, multi-domain clock skew scheduling (MDCSS) has been proposed, and studied in logic- and physical-level design stages. This paper firstly introduce the concept of MDCSS into high-level synthesis, and shows that register binding and domain assignment have a significant impact on the performance of the resulting datapath. A mixedintegerlinear program model to optimize MDCSS-based datapath is presented, which can be used for various objectives in MDCSS-based design. Experiments on several benchmark circuits validate the effectiveness of the approach.

In this paper, a novel and optimized virtual optical network (VON) composition method, aware of the impact of physical layer impairments (PLIs), is investigated. VONs are composed using mixed integer linear programming (MILP), which can provide optimal solutions for VON composition. The quality of the composed VONs is verified by adopting an analytical assessment model of PLIs. In order to improve the performance of the PLI-aware VON composition with MILP, an optimization approach is proposed to integrate the two relatively independent phases, i.e. the VON composition and the quality verification of VON.
