As operational costs and equipment depreciation in the TFT-LCD (thin film transistor-liquid crystal display) industry are a high percentage of the total cost, most manufacturers usually fully utilise their production capacity to reduce the average unit cost. However, when the market demand is less than the supply the stock of panels increases;this forces manufacturers to instigate a price war to reduce levels of stock and results in a wide fluctuation in panel prices. Inventory stocks of panels could be decreased by optimising the product mix. This will help manufacturers to reduce the risk of holding stocks, increase profit, and improve competitive advantage. This study uses mixed integer linear programming (MILP) to construct a product mix for the TFT-LCD industry given the conditions of profit, productivity, raw materials supply, and market demand. A case study shows that this model is proven to be effective in generating product mix for the TFT-LCD industry while improving profit. The product mix generated by this model can provide a reference for the sales department for orders and shipping, for the production department for the order quantity, and for master production scheduling for each product.

The paper studies the capacity planning problem in the TFT-LCD production chain. Due to two significant trends, the capacity planning decision gradually becomes an important strategic issue to which TFT-LCD industry paid attention. First is the increase of product types which causes a wide range of product groups, such as mobile, monitor, notebook, TV and industrial display are produced. The second trend is the advances of new technology which cause multiple generations of technologies coexist in each manufacturing stage and production site. This paper proposes a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) to formulate the capacity planning which considers many practical characteristics and constraints in TFT-LCD production chain. A heuristic algorithm is developed to solve the MILP model.

This paper makes use of recent advances in mixed integer linear programming (MILP) to conduct a preliminary design study on the combinatorial optimal placement of thyristor controlled phase shifter transformers (TCPSTs) in large-scale power systems. The procedure finds the number, network location, and settings of phase shifters that maximize system loadability under the dc load flow model, subject to limits on the installation investment or total number of TCPSTs. It also accounts for active flow and generation limits, and phase shifter constraints. Simulation results are presented for the IEEE 24-, 118-, and 300-bus systems, as well as a 904-bus network. The principal characteristics of our approach are compared with those of other published flexible ac system transmission (FACTS) allocation methods.

Neste trabalho, otimiza-se o funcionamento de uma fábrica desidratadora de forragens localizada na Espanha. Esta possui processos seqüenciados, secagem, produção de fardos de feno e produção de grãos, que para serem realizados consomem quantidades distintas de energia. Estabelecem-se então, os períodos de produção para cada processo, juntamente com a quantidade em toneladas a serem produzidas, sabendo que na Espanha a energia elétrica possui vinte e quatro preços, um para cada hora do dia. É proposto um modelo para a função objetivo, utilizando dados históricos de produção (Ton), consumo (kWh) e tempo (h), que retratará o funcionamento da empresa. Este modelo é obtido por meio de regressão linear múltipla e é implementado utilizando o software Lingo. Os resultados dessa implementação fornecerão as horas totais diárias que cada processo deverá ser realizado, juntamente com a quantidade de toneladas de pacotes de feno e grãos, e o custo diário da energia elétrica para realizar a produçã*** this work, optimize of the functioning of a plant that dehydrates fodder plants located in Spain. In a competitive electricity market generation companies have to maximize their benefits selecting the best strategy, therefore it is necessary to previously know the spot price. This paper presents a model to determine market clearing prices and hourly generation levels of each participant over a 24-hour period including into the model hydrothermal constraints. The optimal competitive market equilibrium problem is formulated as a large-scale mixed integer linear programming algorithm and is solved by using an optimisation package. The model incorporates the following elements: thermal plants (maximum up and down ramp), hydro units, hydro system (cascaded reservoirs, spillway flow, generator I/O characteristic), and inelastic demand. A tactical supply chain planning problem has been formulated as a fuzzy mixed integer linear programming model where data are ill-known and modelled by triangular fuzzy numbers in the setting of possibility theory. This paper proposes a hybrid algorithm for the input/output scheduling problem of multi-shuttle automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RSs). This problem is to find a minimum travel route of a multi-shuttle storage and retrieval (S/R) machine to process given storage and retrieval requests for a storage rack. The proposed algorithm is based on the exact algorithm previously proposed by the author. In the first stage of the algorithm, a tabu search is used to improve the solutions obtained while column and cut generation is applied to an LP relaxation of the problem. The tabu search solutions are utilized in the second stage as columns of a set-partitioning formulation of the problem, and it is solved by a general MILP solver. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is examined by numerical experiments.

In multi-channel wireless mesh networks (WMNs), the routing and channel assignment can interdependently determine network capacity. However, joint routing and channel assignment (JRC) is a challenging problem since it must satisfy the Radio Constraint , the Channel Constraint, and the Co-channel Interference Constraint . Recently, many heuristic or suboptimization algorithms have been proposed to address the JRC problem. The aim of this paper is to preform a comprehensive performance study to fairly compare the different approaches. To achieve this goal, a proper benchmark, a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model that can optimally configure the routing and channel assignment to get maximum achievable network capacity, is provided in this work as well. The proposed MILP model can help system designers quantitatively evaluate existing heuristic methods and make a better decision by considering the tradeoff between the characteristics of various schemes according to the system requirements.

This paper studies the capacitated minimum spanning tree (CMST) problem, which is one of the most fundamental and significant problems in the optimal design of communication networks. A solution method using combined neighborhood search and branch and bound technique is introduced and its performance is presented. The advantage of the algorithm is shown while the process of searching for the optimal solution is illustrated. Computational experiences demonstrate that the proposed strategy significantly improves the efficiency of the previous node-orientated branch and bound algorithm.
