Large scale exploitation of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and their sustainable integration in the power system are important and challenging goals for transmission system operators because of the unpredictability of most of these sources. The aim of this paper is to highlight the advantages, in terms of enhanced RES exploitation and improved system flexibility, deriving from the coordinated management of wind power generation and energy storage systems: in particular, a Residual Unit Commitment procedure is proposed in order to provide the generation resources required to satisfy reserve and transmission network constraints. The resulting model consists in a large scale mixed-integerprogramming problem which is solved by the CPLEX optimization package. Tests on the IEEE 24 bus system will be presented.

Fast web service selection approach is crucial for seamless and dynamic integration of e-business applications. However, since existing service selection approaches take up a lot of time, this make service selection out of time control. In this paper, we propose a fast web service selection (FWSS) approach for service composition system in e-business. In FWSS, only those services that fit to the context of users are valid candidates for the composition, and then mixed integer programming is used to find the most suitable service from above services. Experimental results show that our approach can fast perform service selection for web service composition.

The conventional sources and central generation systems are becoming outdated. Moreover, they don't seem to be capable of fulfilling the growing energy demand in future and are major cause of pollution and Green House effect. In recent years, Renewable Energy and Distributed Generation systems have become a hot topic and alot of research is carried out in these fields. In this paper, a renewable energy micro-grid containing PV and wind energy sources with Micro-Turbine, Fuel cell, Battery and Grid as backup sources is studied. The total operational cost and emissions of the micro-grid(MG) are minimized to obtain the optimal power schedule of a day. For this purpose, a mixedinteger non-linear programming (MINLP) method is used and results are compared with other programming algorithms like Particle Swarm optimization (PSO) and Genetic algorithm (GA).

The aim of our research is to acquire ideal images of city and urban traffic for various purpose. To achieve the aim, we propose optimization models which consist of city, mobilities and inhabitants. There are two models we are proposed from point of view of accuracy and computation time. One is relatively accurate but takes a lot of time to compute. The other is less accurate, however, larger problems can be computed than the former model. The former model could not solve practical size due to computational time. Through computational experiment using extreme evaluation values, validness of latter model is suggested.

The optimal charging schemes for Electric vehicles (EV) generally differ from each other in the choice of charging periods and the possibility of performing vehicle-to-grid (V2G), and have different impacts on EV economics. Regarding these variations, this paper presents a numerical comparison of four different charging schemes, namely night charging, night charging with V2G, 24 hour charging and 24 hour charging with V2G, on the basis of real driving data and electricity price of Denmark in 2003. For all schemes, optimal charging plans with 5 minute resolution are derived through the solving of a mixed integer programming problem which aims to minimize the charging cost and meanwhile takes into account the users' driving needs and the practical limitations of the EV battery. In the post processing stage, the rainflow counting algorithm is implemented to assess the lifetime usage of a lithium-ion EV battery for the four charging schemes. The night charging scheme is found to be the cheapest solution after conducting an annual cost comparison.

Network virtualization is a core technology in next-generation networks to overcome the ossification problem that is observed in the current Internet. The key idea of network virtualization is to split physical network resources into multiple logical networks, each supporting different network services and functionalities. One of the key challenges for virtual network infrastructure providers is to efficiently allocate network resources based on virtual network requests, which is referred to as the virtual network mapping problem. While several algorithms have been proposed previously to solve this mapping problem, their effectiveness is limited since virtual requests specify the internal topology of the virtual network. In this paper, we argue that such internal topologies lead to unnecessary constraints and less efficient solutions. Instead, we propose an alternate formulation of the problem that represents virtual network requests as traffic matrices. We provide a solutions to solving this traffic-matrix-based mapping problem using a mixed integer programming formulation. Our simulation results show that our approach can map significantly more virtual network requests on a physical network infrastructure than previous mapping algorithms and thus improves the efficient use of networking resources in virtual networks.

Educational timetabling has long piqued the interest of the scheduling community. Since timetabling governs how universities operate daily, it has been vital in academia to put substantial effort into creating schedules of the highest caliber. To create schedules that satisfy all stakeholders, various approaches have been tried to solve educational timetabling problems, which are typically NP-Hard. Over the past 20 years, several scheduling contests have been held with a focus on issues related to educational operations. In this paper, we focus on the Post Enrollment Course Timetabling Problem and two datasets from the International Timetabling Competitions held in 2002 and 2007. We propose a local search procedure augmented by a base mathematical model and variations of this model that yields competitive results, within reasonable execution times, to some of the best-known solutions.

Integration schedule of agile satellite is a highly complex combinatorial optimization problem. Pointed at the long time-window brought by the three degrees of freedom of agile satellite, combined with the dynamic store capacity in the integration schedule, a mixedinteger program model is built. Then an improved ant colony algorithm is proposed to solve this problem. And local search mechanism is introduced to speed up the convergence of ant colony algorithm. Finally, multiple instances are tested. The result shows that the proposed improved ant colony algorithm is effective in solving the integration schedule of agility satellite.
