Three-phase distribution network optimal load flow (T-OLF) cannot be exactly linearized to mixed integer second order cone programming(Ml-SOCP) like single-phase branch flow based OLF. Hence, interior point based OLF (IP-OLF) and mixed integer nonlinear programming based OLF (MINLP-OLF) are both tried out to cope with T-OLF in this paper. For IP-OLF, a quadratic three-phase transformer model is proposed to guarantee IP-OLF applying constant Hessian matrix during iterative process. For MINLP-OLF, to gain better optimization results, a mixed-integer quadratically-Constrained quadratic Program model (MIQCQP) of T-OLF is formulated via binary scheme and big-M method. Numerical tests implemented on simple 4-bus system, IEEE 13-bus and IEEE 34-bus distribution test feeders verify the validity of proposed models and algorithms.

This paper proposes a Laguerre Model Predictive Control (LMPC) method for trajectory generation of the accompanying satellite in space station to execute detection tasks. The design of ensuring the accompanying satellite reach the target position and avoid obstacles simultaneously are difficult due to the critical non-convex and nonlinear constraints, and solving the large number of decision variables as a result of model predictive control is too computationally intensive to be implemented. To counter this problem, the trajectory generation problem is reformulated as a mixed integer quadratic programming (MIQP) problem according to the quadratic objective function and obstacles constraints, and the LMPC with smaller variables method is employed in this paper. The obstacles avoidance constraints are solved by mixed integer quadratic programming with LMPC framework, with particularly advantages of the method could obtain a feasible and satisfied solution when the constraints are rigorous. Besides, this paper introduces a LMPC approach to reduce the computational burden by a set of Laguerre functions, guaranteed the long control horizon condition is solved by the small number of control variables. Application for trajectory generation of satellite in highly constrained space station is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the newly proposed method.

Bidders in day-ahead electricity markets want to sell/buy electricity when their bids generate positive surplus and not to take an action when the reverse holds. However, non-convexities in these markets cause conflicts between the actions that the bidders want to take and the actual market results. In this work, we investigate the non-convex market clearing problem of Turkish market operator and propose three different rule sets. The first rule set allows both rejection of bids with positive surplus and acceptance of bids with negative surplus. The second and the third sets only allow one of these conflicted cases. By using total surplus maximization as the objective, we formulate three models and statistically explore their performance with the real data taken from Turkish market operator.

This paper presents a novel method to optimize the placement of a given number of HVDC links An optimization criterion, based on the minimization of branch loading, is proposed as a valid alternative to other criteria widely used in the literature. To take into account the uncertainty given by the grid operating conditions, i.e. by load demand and generator dispatching, a double stage stochastic optimization is proposed. The validity of the proposed approach is demonstrated by different analysis performed on the IEEE39 test grid. Results show effectiveness of the method in improving grid security. Indirectly a more economic grid operation is achieved and interesting findings related to the use of the HVDC links in various grid operating conditions are drawn.

The module detection problem for large-scale complex networks has attracted attention to understand the interactions of nodes as well as the underlying network property. Since the concept of modularity is created to quantify the module property in a network, numerous efforts have been focused on solving the module detection problem via maximizing the modularity of a network. However, due to the NP-complete nature of the modularity maximization problem, existing algorithms, ranging from heuristic methods to greedy algorithms, are computationally demanding. Accordingly, we first reformulate the network module detection problem as mixed integer quadratic programming (MIQP) problem. Subsequently, an efficient and memory-saving algorithm based on inexact Augmented Lagrangian Method (ALM) is developed to solve MIQPs. By exploiting the special structure and sparsity of the problem settings, simplified and closed form solutions are obtained for subproblems of the inexact ALM. Simulation results from the proposed algorithm and the greedy algorithm using real-world databases are presented.

Wind power and Electric Vehicles (EVs) hold a promising future due to their operations is less carbon intensive and have capacity to reduce reliance to fossil fuels. When the amount of wind power and EVs increase, it is necessary to consider their impacts on power system operations and scheduling. In this paper, Battery Swapping Station (BSS) and fluctuating wind power are incorporated in the Unit Commitment (UC) formulation. Firstly, we present a mathematical definition of a battery swapping station. Then, the model is solved using mixed integer quadratic Progamming (MIQP). Adopting a 10-unit system as an example, the simulation results show that the charging and discharging of BSSs can reduce the system operating costs and make up for the fluctuation of wind power.

Electrical distribution networks consist of a large number of switches. A switch is an electrical component that controls the conducting path of current. Modifying the state of the switches in an electrical network can lead to a reduction in power loss. The problem of reconfiguring the state of switches is known as the Distribution Network Reconfiguration (DNR) problem. This paper proposes a method to reduce the size of networks. The goal of this method is to decrease the number of switches, branches, and nodes in the network. Consequently, the number of binary and continuous variables needed to model the DNR problem is reduced, which in turn decreases the computational time. © 2023 IEEE.

The trajectory tracking is the core function to realize automatic operation of high-speed train. This paper designed a model predictive controller under consideration of multiple optimal objectives to achieve comprehensive control performance of accurate tracking, passenger comfort and energy conservation. By linearizing the cost function and constraints, the control optimization model is transformed into a mixed-integer quadratic programming model, which is solved by the Gurobi solver. There are several stages in the whole process of train operation with different priorities of multiple objectives. To adapt the different priorities of multiple objectives, this paper proposed a multi-objective and multi-stage (MOMS) MPC controller based on multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm and a selection strategy of optimal weight coefficient. The simulation results show that the controller designed in this paper can optimize the weight in different scenarios to improve comprehensive control performance. © 2024 SPIE.

This paper deals with a cost sensitive extension of the standard Support Vector Machine (SVM) using an ordered weighted sum of the deviations of misclassified individuals with respect to their corresponding supporting hyperplanes. In contrast with previous heuristic approaches, an exact method that applies the ordered weighted average operator in the classical SVM model is proposed. Specifically, when weights are sorted in non-decreasing order, a quadratic continuous formulation is developed. For general weights, a mixed integer quadratic formulation is proposed. In addition, our results prove that nonlinear kernel functions can be also applied to these new models extending its applicability beyond the linear case. Extensive computational results reported in the paper show that the predictive performance provided by the proposed exact solution approaches are better than the ones provided by the classical models (linear and nonlinear kernel) and similar or better than the previous ones provided by the heuristic solution by Maldonado et al. The balanced dispatching problem in passengers transport services on demand

In the passengers' transport services on demand, such as taxi services, a dispatching solution determines the service quality level and the incomes received by both drivers and the transport company. In the last years, related work has been mainly focused on improving the service quality. However, the drivers' incomes balancing is still a challenge, especially for emerging economies. To address this situation, we introduce the balanced dispatching problem in passengers transport services (BDP-PTS) on demand, which seeks a dispatching solution that aims to minimize the variance of the incomes per unit of working time among the drivers. We propose five easy-to-implement online dispatching algorithms, which rely on dispatching rules obtained from the variance analysis and explore the performance measures for a dispatching solution provided by them. Those algorithms consider the BDP-PTS under an offline scenario, where all the information is revealed beforehand, and the maximum number of solicited transport services is performed. We are focused on a specific set of instances, called complete, which admit at least a feasible solution where all requested transport services are performed. Consequently, we prove the NP-completeness in the strong sense of the BDP-PTS under an offline scenario for these instances, and formulate a mixed integer quadratic programming (MIQP) model to solve it. This complexity computation status implies that no polynomial or pseudo time algorithms exist for solving it, unless P = NP, involving an important quantity of running time and memory resources to model and to resolve it in an empirical computation. Finally, computational experiments are carried out to compare the proposed online dispatching algorithms and the MIQP model on datasets of real complete instances from a Chilean transport company.
