There has been great interest in the threat warning sensors and the countermeasures that might be used to ensure the survivability of the USAF Space Enterprise. Less well known are the families of technologies which actually enable the enterprise to "operate through" in a threat environment. This paper will briefly outline key pervasive SEV technologies, why they are important to the vision and how to create the collaboration necessary to advance these technologies. These technologies are common sense investment ideas that are also used in other military and civilian arenas. Examples in the paper include the necessity to invest in software defined radios, advanced low probability of intercept and low probability of detection communication, and advanced inertial measurement units. This paper outlines the policy, process, and lessons for effective development of pervasive space enterprise technologies development. It also discusses collaborations enabling these pervasive technologies to be transitioned. © 2018, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. All rights reserved.

The digital thread is a rapidly expanding concept being explored within many domains including aerospace, automotive, and health. The main focus of the digital thread is the digital representation of the target entity or product from one phase to the next of its lifecycle thereby creating a digital clone of the entity. This digital clone can help provide a better understanding of the entity and can sometimes replace the expensive physical simulation and diagnosis processes. To realize a digital clone, a common domain agnostic framework is needed. This framework must accommodate an important aspect of the digital clone which consists of the ability to manage product requirements and how they are influenced by external trends that may potentially necessitate solution modifications. These external trends can be collectively described by the PESTLE model which includes Political, Economic, Sociocultural, Technological, Legal, and Environmental factors. In this paper, we propose the use of category theory to introduce a reasoning framework that is applicable to simple, complicated, and most importantly complex systems for a product across its entire lifecycle. The framework allows knowledge about how the entire lifecycle of a product could be impacted through requirements modifications enabling continued product validity. © 2017 by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc. This paper highlights the benefit of developing the operational scenarios in a system modelled using the CORETM tool. It describes the impact of such a model on the structure, the organisation of the scenarios and the advantages of having both operations and system functionalities described by the same tool in a common model. systems are becoming increasingly interdependent and interconnected while the enterprise charged with developing such systems faces a challenge in ensuring that these dependencies and interconnections are known and well understood such that the enterprise’s portfolio of programs, projects and systems will be balanced and robust. Enterprise systems engineering (ESE) is an emerging discipline that is designed to handle the challenges of helping to manage this portfolio and ensuring that the various mission and business systems are developed in a coherent, efficient and effective manner. As defined in the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Digital engineering (DE) Strategy, DE is "an integrated digital approach that uses authoritative sources of system data and models as a continuum across disciplines to support lifecycle activities from concept through disposal." That Strategy establishes a set of goals and objectives for DE within the Department. This paper describes the desired features of an ESE capability that can help the enterprise manage its portfolio as well as addressing the various non-system solutions that must be brought to bear. The strategy for realizing this ESE capability is described in terms of the goals and objectives that the enterprise should be expected to achieve. The paper then describes the roles and responsibilities needed for the effective and efficient implementation of DE principles and concepts in support of the systems engineering activities across the enterprise to facilitate the disciplined exercise of ESE at every organizational level. © 2020 The MITRE Corporation. Fault trees and dependency diagrams are standardized analysis methods for identifying possible causes of a system-level failure and breaking down high-level safety requirements. Although completeness of such an analysis is crucial to system safety, no formalized com- pleteness criteria exists. This paper introduces the concept of fault tree pessimism, pro- poses a completeness predicate developed from fault tree pessimism, and elaborates the application for safety requirements validation in quantitative fault tree analysis. It shows how the proposed predicate leads to greatly reduced fault tree validation effort compared to approaches from the state of the art, which are based on importance metrics. © 2017 by Alexander Wille.

A graphical model-based concept of operations (CONOPS) can be used to transform high-level system use cases (UCs) and operational activities into a series of discrete space vehicle payload commands including those which constitute the payload mission deck. This approach begins with a stakeholder’s high-level operational concept (HLOC) and the identification of an ordered progression of UCs to indicate a mission thread. Through stages of functional decomposition, atomic level functions for each configuration item (CI) are identified. The sequence of payload operations become the series of commands the payload must execute during a mission and include the messages which become the payload mission deck. The graphical artifacts generated during the analysis can be presented on the Enhanced OV-5a diagram showing the development of payload commands beginning with the top level UC. © 2018, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. model-based systems engineering (MBSE) can be used to develop the architecture of a space-based sensor. The process begins with the development of use cases (UCs) of a general system model for a sensor processor which is composed of both hardware and software-based elements. Domain-specific UC’s can then be created and linked to the general level. This process continues through the modeling of variances in system behavior, including activity, sequence and state diagrams. This is done in parallel with the development of structural model instances that represent the configuration of the system for the specific domain being considered. The result is an end-to-end extensible sensor model that can then be applied to analyze the end-to-end signal processing chain. © 2020 The MITRE Corporation. All Rights Reserved.

With the increasing availability of Earth Observation (EO) data has come a commensurate rise in EO applications. To address the dual needs of processing data for applications and designing missions with applications in mind, we present a multi-disciplinary, integrated modeling framework to advance environmental management, policymaking, and observation platform design. This core modeling framework is called Environment-Vulnerability-Decision-Technology (EVDT). EVDT is not the model itself, it is the framework that guides the creation of an integrated model customized to each application with a specific set of stakeholders in mind and designed using systems Architecture. The EVDT framework can be customized to build integrated models specific to a certain application. Individual models in the framework include certain core models (Environment, Vulnerability, Decision, Technology) and optional models such as Public Health which are added when needed for a specific application. The Environment model uses earth science methods to estimate the state of environmental phenomena;The Vulnerability model captures societal impact of environmental changes including ecosystem services;the Decision model captures human behavior and policy consequences;and the Technology model provides tools to design earth observation systems or select among earth observation technologies such as satellites, airborne sensors, and in-situ sensors. The intent in developing this framework and its applications is to lead to the development of a standard to facilitate the re-use of models and the design of future remote observation systems. The presented prototype specifically focuses on two case studies. The first case study considers the dynamics of human and environmental behavior related to the mangrove forests in the Guarat-iba area of Rio de Janeiro. The second case study considers the relevancy of this framework in approaching coronavirus-related public health decisions in Rio de Janeiro, Santi

In response to the problems of massive heterogeneous data, complex structural hierarchy, and inefficient functional implementation in the design of the ground PHM principled sample machine for airborne fuel pump, based on the three-dimensional multiphase criterion of the PHM system, and guided by the implementation of the PHM function of the airborne fuel pump, analyze the technical route of the design of the ground PHM principled sample machine for airborne fuel pump from three aspects, the modeling design method of the MBSE based airborne fuel pump PHM system, the visualization of PHM system design elements based on knowledge graph, and the real-time optimization based on software and hardware collaborative acceleration. The ground PHM principled sample machine for airborne fuel pump is designed to achieve real-time fault diagnosis and degradation prediction functions of the airborne fuel pump. Through the collaborative optimization design of software and hardware, the accuracy of the calculation results is ensured while achieving 26.32 times acceleration calculation. Provide a systematic reference solution for the engineering application of aircraft PHM system. © 2023 IEEE.
