model driven development (MDD) is a relatively new software development methodology that has been increasingly used in the last decade for software development and, in many cases, has replaced traditional, code-centric approaches. In MDD, models or software abstractions are the basic building blocks in the software development life cycle and model transformations are the technology used to map between models conforming to diff erent metamodels. model transformations are used for diff erentpurposes in MDD, e.g., refactoring, migration, and code generation. Since model transformations are essential in MDD, transformation testing and veri fication is essential to the success of MDD and has been of increasing interest to researchers and practitioners. In this research, we investigate the verifi cation of model transformations with respectto a wide range of properties in an automatic and scalable fashion using symbolic execution techniques. First, we survey the state-of-the-art in testing and veri fication of model transformations. Second, we present a model transformation that we have previously developed in an industrial context and used later on as a case study for experimentation. Third, we experiment with a black-box testing tool and an automated formal verifi cation tool on the aforementioned industrial case study. This step was intended to give us a better understanding of the limitations of current tools that yet need to be addressed by researchers. Fourth, we attempt to address the limitations encountered in the state-of-the-art tools by extending and enhancing a symbolic model transformation property prover for a graph-based transformation languagecalled DSLTrans. Finally, we use our symbolic model transformation propertyprover to verify properties for our industrial transformation and for another large transformation, both of which we reimplemented in DSLTrans. A Generic model of Execution for Synthesizing Interpreted Domain-Specific models

The prevalent application of domain-specific modeling languages (DSMLs) requires developers to initially specify the require- ments for a software product as a domain-specific model then transform that model to a high-level language for subsequent ex- ecution. An alternative is to realize behavior directly by executing the models using a specialized interpreter. One category of interpreted domain-specific modeling languages (DSMLs) derives behavior from changes to models at runtime. These are termed interpreted DSMLs or simply i-DSMLs . Existing interpreters for i-DSMLs exhibit tight coupling between the implicit model of execution (MoE) and the semantics of the domain. The interweaving of these two concerns compounds the challenge of developing interpreters for new i-DSMLs without a significant investment in resources. This paper introduces a generalized approach to developing i-DSML interpreters by utilizing a generic framework that is loosely coupled to the domain-specific knowledge as swappable framework extensions. We present a prototype as validation of our ap- proach implemented using a metamodel based architecture to instantiate the interpreter for two distinct cyber-physical domains.

The most current trends in the evolution of software development process are closely related with the increasing complexity of software systems. This motivates software engineers and system developers to find an alternative solution for software system design and development. In this case, the manner offered by OMG's initiative, the model driven Architecture namely, represents a model-driven approach to software development. It also considers the further evolution of CASE tools, bringing their functionality to the next level. This paper investigates the variety of the CASE tools developed under an impact of MDA growing progress. The differences between model driven Architecture and model driven development in the context of automatic capabilities for software development are also discussed in the paper. The example of possibility to define a set of tools proposed as a tool chain for development of software systems under the framework of MDA, the projection of two-hemisphere approach for object-oriented software development into authors' developed component model of MDA is offered in the paper.

This paper proposes a framework for improving design of MAT Mobile Assistive Technology vehicles by applying the model driven generative domain engineering method to develop self-organizing architectural solutions for mobile vehicles. developments were carried out by using the Rhapsody (TM) tool, a MDD model driven development environment for embedded real-time systems based on the UML 2.0 standard. The MAT Mobile Assistive Technology device is treated here as a special type of mobile robot that eventually would become autonomous after the further integration of specific algorithms for obstacle avoidance, navigation and orientation and the design of accessible environments. The modeling framework is developed within the social model of disability. The aim of this unified modeling framework proposal is to allow the analysis and synthesis of assistive technology systems, as well as appropriate matching to potential end-users. Requirements definition and analysis is strongly taken into consideration. Agreed requirements are the basis of acceptance testing.

Developing analytical applications for IoT based on sensor signal processing tends to be complicated as applications are executed as sequence of steps comprising of multiple alternative algorithms, including suitable feature extraction modules depending on the goal of the application. Experience shows that developers spend considerable time and effort in performing feature extraction and dimensionality reduction. In this paper we propose a framework based on a relevant case study which allows developers to drag and drop algorithms to create a workflow chain, automatically select the most relevant signal features for the particular analytic application using a training data set to generate a model and deploy the model for use. The method reduces the effort and cost of development which is deemed highly important for the analytics industry.

It is a legal requirement in many countries to ensure accessibility for Web applications. Although there are numerous regulations and standards regarding accessibility in the development of user interfaces, accessibility is nevertheless quite difficult to achieve, let alone to maintain at a high level of quality throughout the development process. This difficulty is due to diverse factors including, but not limited to, the lack of proper development methods, authoring tools and accessibility training for user interface development professionals. In an attempt to offer a solution to these difficulties, this paper proposes a methodological approach for the integration of accessibility requirements into a user interface development method based on User Interface Description Language (UIDL) or, more specifically, on the USer Interface eXtensible Markup Language (UsiXML) framework. The proposed strategy involves the integration of accessibility requirements into design primitives of the user interface development method. This paper focuses on accessibility requirements related to navigation in the Task model, Abstract User Interface model and Transformation model. The application of the approach shown for the SPA4USXML tool also includes a proof of concept and validation of the proposal. The study shows that accessibility requirements included at the design stage in the modelling of user interfaces can be systematized through mechanisms such as new transformation rules and the use of support tools such as *** a result, the quality of accessibility can be guaranteed by taking advantage of developments in technologies based on User Interface Markup Languages such as UsiXML. model-driven development (MDD) is an approach that focuses on creating models as first class development artifacts to produce source code by utilizing model transformations. Process support is needed for effective MOD as it guides the development of the model and helps to manage the relationships between models. Our paper highlights the results of the survey on real life experiences of using MDD in companies. The results confirm the validity of the previously published MDD-related challenges. Regardless of the advantages identified by the respondents there are still many challenges to tackle before MDD will become more generally used in organizations. However, respondents found the approach useful and state that in the next five years the product development processes, methods and tools will be developed towards MDD adoption in their organizations.

The study of Multiagent Systems (MASs) focuses on those systems in which many intelligent agents interact with each other. The agents are considered to be autonomous entities which contain intelligence that serves for solving their selfish or common problems, and to achieve certain goals. However, the autonomous, responsive, and proactive natures of agents make the development of agent-based software systems more complex than other software systems. Furthermore, the design and implementation of a MAS may become even more complex and difficult to implement when considering new requirements and interactions for new agent environments like the Semantic Web. We believe that both domain-specific modeling and the use of a domain-specific modeling language (DSML) may provide the required abstraction, and hence support a more fruitful methodology for the development of MASs. In this paper, we first introduce a DSML for MASs called SEA_ML with both its syntax and semantics definitions and then show how the language and its graphical tools can be used during model-driven development of real MASs. In addition to the classical viewpoints of a MAS, the proposed DSML includes new viewpoints which specifically support the development of software agents working within the Semantic Web environment. The methodology proposed for the MAS development based on SEA_ML is also discussed including its example application on the development of an agent-based stock exchange system. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. Software development processes are known to produce a large set of artifacts such as models, code and documentation. Keeping track of these artifacts without supporting tools is not easy, and making them available to others can be even harder. Standard version control systems are not able to solve this issue. More than keeping track of versions, a system to help organize and make artifacts available in meaningful ways is needed. In this paper we review a number of alternative systems, and present the requirements and the implementation of a collaborative web repository which we developed to solve this issue.
