Conversational interfaces (also called chatbots) are being increasingly adopted in various domains such as e-commerce or customer service, as a direct communication channel between companies and endusers. Their advantage is that they can be embedded within social networks, and provide a natural language (NL) interface that enables their use by non-technical users. While there are many emerging platforms for building chatbots, their construction remains a highly technical, challenging task. In this paper, we propose the use of chatbots to facilitate querying domain-specific models. This way, instead of relying on technical query languages (e.g., OCL), models are queried using NL as this can be more suitable for non-technical users. To avoid manual programming, our solution is based on the automatic synthesis of the model query chatbots from a domain meta-model. These chatbots communicate with an EMF-based modelling backend using the Xatkit framework.

Analyzing conceptual models such as process models, data models, or organizational charts is useful for several purposes in information systems engineering (e.g., for business process improvement, compliance management, model driven software development, and software alignment). To analyze conceptual models structurally and semantically, so-called model query languages have been put forth. model query languages take a model pattern and conceptual models as input and return all subsections of the models that match this pattern. Existing model query languages typically focus on a single modeling language and/or application area (such as analysis of execution semantics of process models), are restricted in their expressive power of representing model structures, and/or abstain from graphical pattern specification. Because these restrictions may hamper query languages from propagating into practice, we close this gap by proposing a modeling language-spanning structural model query language based on flexible graph search that, hence, provides high structural expressive power. To address ease-of-use, it allows one to specify model queries using a diagram. In this paper, we present the syntax and the semantics of the diagramed model query language (DMQL), a corresponding search algorithm, an implementation as a modeling tool prototype, and a performance evaluation.

Assurance Cases (ACs) are used for justifying system confidence in important properties including safety, reliability, etc. Their manual generation is time-consuming and prone to errors. Also, AC update calls for more labour. However, there is not an automatic solution to guide the whole engineering process of AC generation and verification process. An executable AC is machine readable and checkable, and brings the benefit of efficiency and confidence of AC evolution. Thus, in this PhD, the model-based Engineering (MBE) techniques are exploited for an automatic process for executable ACs. The first aim is to generate AC models automatically from system artefacts. Currently available approaches are usually constrained to specilic modelling environments, or address only system model artefacts, or do not cover informal and unstructured artefacts. The second aim is to automate the evidence generation using formal verification. FM provides a rigorously mathematical proof. But current solutions to create formal assertions are manual and expertise-requiring. The paper discusses on the technical problem, and the proposed approach.

Large-scale cyber-physical systems are co-engineered, especially in safety-critical industries, by various specialists within an organization and, increasingly, across organizations. The collaborative aspect of the process is facilitated by hosting engineering artifacts in model repositories. In order to validate the adherence to design rules, perform change impact analysis across projects, generate reports etc., engineers specify model queries and evaluate them using query engines, traditionally available in client modeling tools. In this paper we introduce INCquery SERVER FOR TEAMWORK CLOUD (IQS4TWC), a standalone middleware service that connects YO TEAMWORK CLOUD model repositories, and builds on VIATRA query to provide fast querying over their content. The new serverside solution provides advanced features including single-model ad-hoc queries as well as repository-wide change impact analysis (correlating projects across branches and revisions);access to version snapshots as well as queries on the latest state;and a range of performance fine-tuning options (such as elasticity and in-memory indexes) to achieve high scalability. Scalability of modeling frameworks has become a major issue hampering MDE adoption in the industry. Specifically, scalable model persistence, as well as efficient query and transformation engines, are two of the key challenges that need to be addressed to enable the support for very large models in current applications. In this paper we demonstrate Mogwai, a tool designed to efficiently compute queries and transformations (expressed in OCL and ATL) over models stored in NoSQL databases. Mogwai relies on a translational approach that maps constructs of the supported input languages to Gremlin, a generic NoSQL query language, and a model to datastore mapping allowing to compute the generated query on top of several datastores. The produced queries are computed on the database side, benefiting of all its optimizations, improving the execution time and reducing the memory footprint compared to standard solutions. The Mogwai tool is released as a set of open source Eclipse plugins and is fully available online.

As the uptake of the Semantic Web vision has been relatively slow, a strategy based on pragmatic steps is being deployed in order to setup enablers and to stimulate acceptance. "Linked Open Data" refers to one of these early steps, benefiting from an available technological space (RDF, HITP). The paper proposes "Linked Open models" as a possible additional step, whose aim is to enable users to externalize knowledge in the form of diagrammatic models - a type of content that is human-readable, as well as linkable in the way promoted by the Linked Data paradigm. Consequently, diagrams become usergenerated content that semantically enriches Linked Data, thus allowing richer constraints or connections in queries. The vision emerged from the context and use cases provided by the ComVantage FP7 research project, where linking benefits for conceptual diagrammatic models have been investigated. However the paper also discusses the vision's degree of generality, beyond the scope of the exemplary project use cases. Feasibility was demonstrated with a vocabulary and a prototype mechanism for exposing the models created with a hybrid, domain-specific modeling method in a Linked Data-driven collaboration environment. While model Driven Engineering is gaining more industrial interest, scalability issues when managing large models have become a major problem in current modeling frameworks. Scalable model persistence has been achieved by using NoSQL backends for model storage, but existing modeling framework APIs have not evolved accordingly, limiting NoSQL query performance benefits. In this paper we present the Mogwai, a scalable and efficient model query framework based on a direct translation of OCL queries to Gremlin, a query language supported by several NoSQL databases. Generated Gremlin expressions are computed inside the database itself, bypassing limitations of existing framework APIs and improving overall performance, as confirmed by our experimental results showing an improvement of execution time up to a factor of 20 and a reduction of the memory overhead up to a factor of 75 for large models.

The digital transformation of cities towards Smart Cities proposes many opportunities, e.g., related to services, security, waste and energy management, and infrastructure management. These opportunities come with manifold innovation challenges, not only from a technological perspective but also for public authorities and citizens. The paper at hand introduces conceptual modeling as a means towards handling the complexity of Smart City planning, management, and operation. This paper presents multiple scenarios, indicating possibilities of bridging between the challenges of Smart Cities on the one hand and the opportunities of applying conceptual modeling on the other. Evaluation results and experience gained from two years of teaching such scenarios at the Next-generation Enterprise modeling Summer School (NEMO) indicate a strong positive impact on student's motivation and learning success. The aim of this paper is therefore to emphasize on the benefits of adopting conceptual modeling in Smart Cities by exemplifying possible application scenarios.

With the development of model driven architecture(MDA), the number of models being used and produced is increasing. Comprehending and reusing models face a real challenge. model query is put forward to solve these problems. Most people chose using OCL as the query language. However, OCL is a textual query language, it isn't powerful enough and always generates very complex query statements even for a simple query. We think that a graphical representation to specify queries on UML models could facilitate the software developers' comprehension on what a query pattern looks like, because of that it is easier to be understood and much more visual. In this paper, we propose a model query method which is queried by drawing examples of the UML model. This query method is based on the graphical representation we presented in this paper.
