Normal feedback controllers may not perform well, because of the variations in process or Plant due to nonlinear actuators, changes in environmental conditions. The design of a controller for speed control of DC Motor with model reference adaptive control scheme using the MIT rule for adaptive mechanism is presented in this paper. The controller gives reasonable results, but to the changes in the amplitude of reference signal it is very sensitive. It is shown from the simulation work carried out in this paper that adaptive system becomes oscillatory if the value of adaptation gain or the amplitude of reference signal is sufficiently large. This paper also deals with the use of MIT rule along with the normalized algorithm to handle the variations in the reference signal, and this adaptation law is referred as modified MIT rule. The modeling of MRAC is shown by means of simulation on MATLAB.

In engineering applications, it is very useful to make a nonlinear system behave like a linear stable system. However,how to design a model reference adaptive control（MRAC） as the nonlinear dynamics is unknown is the key problem. In this study,an MRAC with adaptive dynamic programming（ADP） algorithm is presented for discrete-time nonlinear unknown dynamic systems, in which a multi-layer neural network（NN） model is utilized to describe the nonlinear system’s dynamics. Then based on this approximate model, a feedforward neuro-controller is developed as the desired control corresponding to the reference input. Third, the iterative ADP algorithm, in the form of actor-critic framework, employs two NNs to estimate the action value function, and generates the feedback control which, together with the feedforward neuro-controller, makes the state of the system track the reference model. Finally the feasibility of the new approach is verified by two numerical experiments.

Given their intrinsic characteristics, space missions' objectives such as on-orbit inspection, robotic servicing and assembly, autonomous reconfiguration maneuvers, and the disposal of orbital debris need to deal with unknown system and model parameters (e.g., dealing with uncooperative/unfamiliar targets, modified mass properties due to tugging/docking, etc). If an accurate value of the unknown quantities is warranted, system identification techniques are employed to characterize the system using parameter estimation algorithms, whereas if the characteristics are of no particular interest, adaptation methods are utilized to perform on-the-fly learning on a need to know basis. A common framework in which to implement parameter estimation algorithms is the Kalman Filter (KF), while model reference adaptive controllers (MRAC) can be used to accomplish parameter adaptation. The purpose of this work is to leverage the two frameworks to simultaneously exert control actions and perform inference on unknown parameter values using both sources of information, and assess the obtained performance. A simulation of a simple free floating mass example will be shown to demonstrate the approach.

model reference adaptive control which are capable of exhibiting simultaneously several kinds of feature (e.g., automatically adjusting the controller gain, stabilizing the system, flexibility, adaptability, and robustness, and the like) are of great current interest. In the present paper we firstly formulate a model for model reference adaptive control which covers a very large class of systems and which is suitable for the qualitative analysis of such systems. Next, we introduce the Lyapunov function (e.g., generalized energy properties) of being based on the stability theory of Lyapunov and analyze its definiteness to establish the corresponding conclusions which judges the stability of the *** then design the rotating speed control strategy of servo system which is well suited to the adaptive control method, being based on the characteristics and control requirements of the servo system, In accordance with the transfer function mathematical model, we design the reference model,Under adding the polynomial, we determine the state equation and filtering equation of the auxiliary signal generator, at the same time determining the signal vector and the adjustable parameter vector,in addition to the above, we select the Lyapunov function to achieve the adaptive parameter adjustment law. To verify the validity of the method, doing a simulation study and using numerical integration method carries out the test on the aforementioned servo system model under the environment of basing simulation tool of Matlab. The results of the simulation tests show that MRAC is an effective way to control the rotating speed of this kind of servo motor, giving the system good tracking ability. It is concluded that the system has strong capacities to resist interference and changes of parameters in process, it could also overcome the influence of the time-varying nonlinearity on the control performance.

This paper develops a new partial-state feedback model reference adaptive control (MRAC) scheme for output tracking which combines the advantages of the existing MRAC schemes. For partial-state feedback MRAC, the plant-model matching is as achievable as full-state feedback control, while the controller structure enjoys less complexity as compared with output feedback MRAC. Partial-state feedback MRAC ensures closed-loop system stability and asymptotic output tracking. New results are presented for plant-model matching, adaptive law and stability properties. New features of partial-state feedback MRAC are addressed, including its design flexibility. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of partial-state feedback MRAC.

Application of model reference adaptive PI control to FTCC of a Wind Farm

High reliability and availability are crucial for cost-effective operation of any wind farm. In this regard, effective schemes for fault detection, diagnosis and accommodation need to be developed to improve the reliability and availability of wind turbines and consequently wind farms (groups of wind turbines). To address this issue, this paper employs an adaptive proportional-integral (PI) control approach in a cooperative framework that is oriented to the design and development of a novel fault-tolerant cooperative control (FTCC) scheme in a wind farm. Applied to a wind farm, this scheme handles decreased power generation faults that may be caused by icing or debris build-up on the blades over time. Different simulations on a high-fidelity offshore wind farm benchmark show the effectiveness and satisfactory performance of the proposed scheme in the presence of wind turbulences, measurement noises and realistic fault scenarios. © 2018

This paper presents an application of model reference adaptive control (MRAC) method based on MIT rule for closed loop fractional-order control systems. The main advantage of the method is that it may gain adaptation capability for existing fractional-order systems. It essentially contains two loops, which are the inner loop for fractional-order PID ( FOPID) control of plant, and the outer loop for implementation of MIT rule for model reference adaptive control. This approach do not modify any parameter of existing closed loop control system, instead it performs input shaping for the closed loop control system so that response of closed loop control system approximates to a desired control response, which is described by the reference model. The method can be useful in fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control of systems because it may allow maintaining control performance for tolerable system perturbation. The paper presents a simulation study for FOPID and plant models that were obtained by Fractional-order modeling and control (FOMCON) toolbox. Results showing the response of proposed system for amplifications type faults are also discussed.

This work proposes for the first time a model reference adaptive asymptotic tracking method for a class of uncertain switched linear systems with nonnegative orthant state constraints and dwell time switching. In contrast with the stateof-the-art switched adaptive methods, the main characteristic of this method consists in guaranteeing that the systems states remain in the nonnegative orthant of the state space. To achieve asymptotic tracking, an interpolated Lyapunov function is adopted. To ensure the positivity of the system states, a parameter projection law is needed, because some knowledge of the bounds of the parameter estimates is required to guarantee that the closed-loop system is a switched positive system. A benchmark traffic flow example(a switched positive linear system commonly used in literature) is adopted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Application and adaptation of different types of controllers to helicopters become more important in terms of stability and mission. As the helicopters are very dynamic vehicles and there are more parameters than any other dynamical system to consider its stability, control and mode shift during hover, forward flight, and maneuvers, their controller design become a challenging problem for the designers. In this paper, a model reference adaptive control design (MRAC) method is proposed such that the reference model is a helicopter dynamics which is pre-controlled ( stable) one by means of gain scheduling technique. The helicopter, whose dynamics are not known exactly, is considered to be the plant in the MRAC design and its outputs are regulated to follow the response of the reference helicopter model. The success of the proposed control approach is illustrated by means of simulations in the MATLAB. SIMULINK. environment.
