For the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with unbalanced stator resistance, a method for online identification of rotor flux linkage based on model reference adaptive control (MRAC) theory is proposed. This method designs the self-adaptive law based on the Popov hyper-stability theory, which ensures the convergence of the identification results under specific conditions. The simulation results show the balanced state of the stator resistance, the motor parameters identified in the unbalanced state can also converge near the true value in a short time, and the error is small.

Precise angular speed control of permanent magnet DC motors in presence of high modeling uncertainties via sliding mode observer-based model reference adaptive algorithm

The major concentration of this study is on developing a control scheme with parameter- and load-insensitive features capable of precise angular speed regulation of a permanent magnet (PM) DC motor in the presence of modeling uncertainties. Towards this objective, first, an appropriate nonlinear dynamic model of friction, the modified LuGre model, is opted and incorporated into the mathematical model of a PM DC motor. Then a sliding mode observer (SMO) is designed to estimate the state variable of the friction model. Next, a model reference adaptive control system into which estimated values of the friction state and parameters are fed is designed to track the desired speed trajectory while alleviating the adverse effects of model uncertainties and friction. Stability of the proposed SMO-based MRAC system is discussed via the Lyapunov stability theorem, and its asymptotic stability is verified. In addition to simulation studies, the algorithm is implemented on a new variable structure test-bed which gives us the ability to simulate desired parameter variations and external disturbance changes in experiment. The main contribution of the proposed scheme is the bounded estimation of the system's friction parameter. While similar control solutions do estimate these parameters, there is no guarantee that they will estimate the correct value of friction parameters. However, in the proposed method, by properly choosing the design parameters, if certain criteria is satisfied, the estimated friction parameters will be in the bounded vicinity of their actual values. This paper introduces a finite-set model reference adaptive system (FS-MRAS) observer for encoder-less control of surface-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous generators (SM-PMSGs) in variable-speed wind energy conversion systems (WECSs). The proposed algorithm replaces the traditional constant-gain proportional integral (CGPI), which usually used in the adaptation mechanism of the traditional MRAS observer. The concept of the suggested algorithm is driven from the finite set-model predictive control (FS-MPC) principle, where a certain number of rotor position angles are used to estimate the stator flux of the SM-PMSG. The angle optimizing a certain quality function is chosen to be the best rotor position angle. The proposed FS-MRAS observer is validated and compared with the traditional MRAS observer at different conditions by experimental data.

This paper presents a reliable active fault-tolerant tracking control (AFTTC) design method against actuator faults of a quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The scheme consists of a baseline controller, a fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) estimator and an adaptive fault compensator. In the absence of actuator faults, a state feed-back controller acting as the normal controller is developed by utilizing linear quadratic regulator, so that the system stability and desired tracking performance are guaranteed. When the actuator fails to operate, an adaptive two-stage Kalman filter estimator is exploited for simultaneous state and fault estimation. Using the information from the FDD estimator, an adaptive fault compensator based on model reference adaptive control is designed automatically to mitigate the negative impacts of actuator faults. Simulation results show that the proposed AFTTC method enables the quadrotor UAV to track the desired refere-nce commands in the absence/presence of actuator faults.

In this paper, two adaptive control methods introduced in literature (e.g. the gradient and Lyapunov stability methods) are applied on several theoretical examples considering the second order plant for different time varying parameters. Further on, two new adaptive control laws are proposed. The first one is based on MIT rule and Lyapunov stability combination to allow usage of the same value for all adaptation gains. The second one, based on the first one, is developed for perturbation rejection by adding an artificial perturbation at the plant's input. Using Matlab / Simulink, the preferred approach for each use case is showcased.

This paper establishes an adaptive tracking approach for linear systems with parametric uncertainties, when input measurements are quantized due to the presence of a communication network closing the control loop. In order to address the tracking problem, a novel dynamic quantizer with dynamic offset is introduced and embedded into an adaptive hybrid control strategy based on zooming mechanism. A Lyapunov-based approach is used to derive the adaptive adjustments for the control gains and for the dynamic range and dynamic offset of the quantizer: it is proven analytically that the proposed adjustments guarantee asymptotic state tracking. Quantized adaptive control of an electrohydraulic system is given as an example of the effectiveness of the designed control methodology.

As a high performance control method, model predictive control has many advantages, such as fast dynamic response, simple structure and ability to deal with multivariables, but its control effect depends on the motor model. Aiming at the problem of the parameter sensitivity of model predictive control, in this paper, a model predictive control considering online parameter identification algorithm is proposed. By establishing model reference adaptive system, and designing the parameter adaptive law base on Popov's Superstability theory, the inductance and flux parameters online identified are updated to the model predictive control. Thus, it solves the problem of model predictive control in parameter mismatch, and realizes high performance control under the motor runs for a long time. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper studies the automatic carrier landing control problem of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), by applying a model reference adaptive control (MRAC) scheme to deal with system uncertainties. Two key issues are solved for UAV carrier landing, including flight deck motion disturbance compensation and glide slope tracking control. An automatic carrier landing system (ACLS) for carrier-based UAV is developed, in which the flight control subsystem plays an important role. A state feedback for output tracking multivariable MRAC scheme is used to design the longitudinal flight controller and the lateral flight controller, which guarantees the arbitrary reference trajectory tracking. Simulation results demonstrate that the adaptive ACLS ensures the UAV asymptotically track the glide path even under the flight deck motion disturbance.

The article represents MRAC strategies for controlling a mechanical prosthetic arm utilizing gradient method MIT rule. Depending on the uncertainty parameters like mass of the mechanical arm, friction constant and spring constant, an adaptive controller is designed and outlined. MIT rule has been applied to this second-order system, and simulation is done in MATLAB-Simulink for various estimation of adaptation gain. With the changes in adaptation gain, the adaptation mechanisms are changed and results are analyzed. Variation in the parameters should be in the specified range for MIT rule. Further Lyapunov stability approach has been applied to the closed-loop dynamics to ensure global stability on variation of plant parameters.

A DC-DC converter with constant power loads (CPLs) is a type of strongly nonlinear system. CPLs have the characteristic of negative incremental impedance, which may cause system instability during disturbances if the system is not properly controlled. Additionally, parameter uncertainty renders the control problem of nonlinear systems more complex and difficult. In this paper, a feedback linearization adaptive control strategy is proposed to improve the stability of a buck converter with CPLs. Feedback linearization is adopted based on the inverse system method to linearize the large signal average model of the buck converter with CPLs, and a pseudo-linear system is obtained. Then, a model reference adaptive control technology is applied to design a controller for the pseudo-linear system. Finally, compared with PID control, simulation and experimental results show that the proposed control strategy can achieve faster start-up without overshoots and stronger robustness in restraining resistive loads and CPL disturbances.
