We consider tools for developing information systems with use of model driven architecture (MDA) and Linked Open Data technologies (LOD). The original idea of LOD is to allow the software designers to develop program systems integrated by means of common ontologies and web protocols. MDA Platform Independent model (PIM) is expressed as set of UML diagrams. PIM forms a LOD graph and its namespace. All the PIM entities are defined as ontology resources, i.e. with URI references to LOD terms. This allows us to translate PIM UML model to a set of triples and store them in an ontology ware-house for further transformation into a Platform Specific model (PSM). The ClioPatria ontology server and the SWI Prolog language are used as tools of PIM and PSM storage, querying and processing. The tools will allow us to mediate the MDA static means of code generation and configuration at development stage with the techniques of flexible data structure processing at run time, thus, producing even more productive information system development and maintenance techniques. This research corresponds to nowadays direction of Semantic Web Software Engineering.

Integrating the modeling process throughout all development phases of any application is promising. On the one hand, this is the basis of model driven architecture approach (MDA) which advocates the massive use of models during different steps of any application's development. On the other hand, the achievement of the User Interface (UI) of an application as Human Computer Interaction (HCI) is among the key factors of its success. Along with that, we present the approach we adopted to demonstrate the tandem of the MDA and HCI communities. Based on the MDA approach and its principles, we first elaborate the Platform Independent model (PIM) which is actually our way to describe the interface's functionalities and not using just a simple Unified modeling Language (UML) diagram. Second, we established the Platform Specific model (PSM) for Swing to describe UI. Then, we focused on implementing mapping rules between the two models and also the code generation. Finally, with this method, graphical interfaces can easily be analyzed designed and generated to increase the productivity of the system.

Vehicular Adhoc Networks (VANETs) are considered as a breakthrough technology in providing robust Vehicular communication that guarantees Road safety and offer interactive set of applications. VANET faces certain orchestration and management challenges. Recently, the notion of Centralization of VANET is gaining importance. In this regard SDN (Software defined Network) is integrated with VANET to achieve management goals. SDN renders existing VANET architecture to provide centralized control. Yet for Large-scale VANET, SDN approach does not outperform due to SPOF (single point of failure) in SDN. We have proposed decentralized architectural solution that scales out overall network intelligence into respective local controllers that result in unprecedented elasticity and resource availability. To make this approach operational no standard Architectural approach yet exists. An emerging model driven architecture approach is used that simplifies VANET development using abstract models. It only subdues VANET rigidity but also comply with SDN principals. This system is implemented in VEINS framework. Results demonstrate its efficacy for large scale VANET.

The current software development approaches that support developers in providing enterprise centric computing solutions have been failing short of expectations in handling some of the most trivial issues like changes in requirements, changing technologies, multiple platforms and platform interoperability. model driven Development (MDD) approach for software development is aimed at leveraging models to cater to these challenges. model driven architecture (MDA) based on MDD and supported by UML, MOF and other standards is fast becoming a dominant approach for software development these days. This paper is an attempt to provide a state-of-the-art review of MDA concepts and summarizes various advantages and disadvantages of MDA.

A model driven architecture for the development of smart card software

Smart cards are portable integrated devices that store and process data. Speed, security and portability properties enable smart cards to have a widespread usage in various fields including telecommunication, transportation and the credit card industry. However, the development of smart card applications is a difficult task due to hardware and software constraints. The necessity of the knowledge of both a very low-level communication protocol and a specific hardware causes smart card software development to be a big challenge for the developers. Written codes tend to be error-prone and hard to debug because of the limited memory resources. Hence, in this study, we introduce a model driven architecture which aims to facilitate smart card software development by both providing an easy design of smart card systems and automatic generation of the required smart card software from the system models. Differentiating from the previous work, the study in here contributes to the field by both providing various smart card metamodels in different abstraction layers and defines model-to-model transformations between the instances of these metamodels in order to support the realization of the same system on different smart card platforms. Applicability of the proposed methodology is shown for rapid and efficient application development in two major smart card frameworks: Java Card and ZeitControl Basic Card. Lessons learned during the industrial usage of the architecture are also reported in the paper. Finally, we discuss how the components of the architecture can be integrated in order to provide a domain-specific language for smart card software. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Developing Web Applications Based on model driven architecture

model driven architecture (MDA) is a new software development framework. This paper presents a model-driven approach to the development of Web applications by combining Conallen's web applications design concept and Kleppe's MDA process. We use the UML extension mechanism, i.e. stereotypes, to define the various web elements, and use the Robustness diagram to represent MVC 2 structure for Web application. After required analysis, we start by using a use case diagram as CIM, and then transform CIM to PIM, and PIM to PSM. We propose mapping rules for model-to-model transformation. Finally, we develop a tool named WebPSM2Code, which can automatically transform PSM diagram to Web application code, such as Java, JSP, HTML, Servlet, Javascript, as well as deployment descriptor file. All the files can automatically address to the correct directory structure for JSP Web application, and the transformation rate is about 39% of the whole system. Using this methodology, systems can be analyzed, designed, and generated more easily and systematically. Thereby, the time that Web programmers spend on coding can be reduced.

Evaluation of model driven architecture-Based Instruction for Understanding Phase Transitions in Object-Oriented Analysis and Design

Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD) courses enable students to establish a requirements model of an application, successively transform those requirements into logical design models, and then transform the logical models into physical design models. However, students attending OOAD courses typically encounter difficulties in the transition. model-driven architecture (MDA) provides a model transformation framework for transitioning between OOAD phases. Considering the advantages of MDA in phase transitions, this study proposes that integrating conventional OOAD instruction with the MDA framework and describing transition relations in diagrammatic representations might improve students' understanding of the transitions. This study used an empirical design that involved using two treatments (MDA-based and conventional instruction) to examine the relevance of MDA-based instruction in the effective understanding of the transitions on the basis of cognitive load theory, the split-attention principle, and theories of representation format. The results indicate that, compared with conventional instruction, MDA-based instruction is more efficient because it improves mental efficiency by reducing extraneous cognitive load. This study can assist educators in understanding the difficulties in learning phase transitions and motivate researchers to develop more effective learning instructions for transitioning between OOAD phases.

model driven architecture (MDA), in which code is produced from a high-level model of the problem solution, promises many benefits over traditional software development methodologies but it has presently been applied mostly to web-based systems using the REE architecture. Software agents, while not a new concept, are also a powerful way to analyze and design dynamic systems. In this paper, we adapt basic AMA techniques together with the concept of agent roles, used to describe the behavior of an agent, to develop a book buying agent based system.

QoS-aware model driven architecture through the UML and CIM

The specification of Quality of Service (QoS) constraints over software design requires measures that ensure such requirements are met by the delivered product. Achieving this goal is non-trivial, as it involves, at least, identifying how QoS constraint specifications should be checked at the runtime. In this paper we present an implementation of a model driven architecture (MDA) based framework for the runtime monitoring of QoS properties. We incorporate the UML2 superstructure and the UML profile for Quality of Service to provide abstract descriptions of component-and-connector systems. We then define transformations that refine the UML2 models to conform with the Distributed Management Taskforce (DMTF) Common Information model (CIM) (Distributed Management Task Force Inc. 2006), a schema standard for management and instrumentation of hardware and software. Finally, we provide a mapping the CIM metamodel to a .NET-based metamodel for implementation of the monitoring infrastructure utilising various .NET features including the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) interface.

In this paper we describe a dynamic model driven architecture called JfleX which marries a traditional MDA approach with dynamic interpretation of an application model at run-time. We define a meta-model that is suited for interpretation in the context of a web-based transaction processing application. JfleX is meant to be a production-strength' implementation of the ideas in our previous work on SfleX [5], an open source prototype of a flexible software architecture using dynamic model interpretation. JfleX is built on a robust J2EE framework called JOA, which is being used in our organization for developing large J2EE applications for our Fortune 500 customers. Using the dynamic MDA approach, application functionality can be modified or enhanced through configuration, without traversing the entire development cycle apart from functional design & testing. This could contribute to improving development productivity, as well as increasing maintainability of applications as they go through their life cycle.
