Application of model reference adaptive PI Control to FTCC of a Wind Farm

High reliability and availability are crucial for cost-effective operation of any wind farm. In this regard, effective schemes for fault detection, diagnosis and accommodation need to be developed to improve the reliability and availability of wind turbines and consequently wind farms (groups of wind turbines). To address this issue, this paper employs an adaptive proportional-integral (PI) control approach in a cooperative framework that is oriented to the design and development of a novel fault-tolerant cooperative control (FTCC) scheme in a wind farm. Applied to a wind farm, this scheme handles decreased power generation faults that may be caused by icing or debris build-up on the blades over time. Different simulations on a high-fidelity offshore wind farm benchmark show the effectiveness and satisfactory performance of the proposed scheme in the presence of wind turbulences, measurement noises and realistic fault scenarios. © 2018

Research on RBF neural network model reference adaptive control system based on nonlinear U - model

The overall objective of this study is to design the nonlinear U-model-based radial basis function neural network model reference adaptive control system, through research into a class of complex time-varying nonlinear plants. First, the ideal nonlinear plant is adopted as the reference model and transformed into the U-model representation. In the process, the authors establish the corresponding relationship between the degrees of the reference nonlinear model and the controlled nonlinear plants, and carry out research into the corresponding coefficient relationship between the reference nonlinear model and the controlled nonlinear plants. Also, the impact of the adjusting amplitude and tracking speed of the model on the system control accuracy is analyzed. Then, according to the leaming error index of the neural network, the paper designs the adaptive algorithm of the radial basis function neural network, and trains the network by the error variety. With the weight coefficients and network para meters automatically updated and the adaptive controller adjusted, the output of controlled nonlinear plants can track the ideal output completely. The simulation results show that the model reference adaptive control system based on RBF neural network has better control effect than the nonlinear U-model adaptive control system based on the gradient descent method.

The state parameter and work state of Aero-engine in the whole flight envelope are change greatly. So the controller should deal with parameter perturbation, disturbance and the change of external condition. In this paper the neural network sliding mode variable structure decoupling controller based on model reference adaptive for the aero-engine is designed. RBF neural network is used as the output of the sliding mode control, and sliding mode switching function is used as the neural network input. The weight of RBF network is adjusted adaptively by the error between reference model output and actual output. The results of simulation show that model reference adaptive Neural Sliding Mode Controller (MRANBSMC) has a good control effect in the whole flight envelope. It eliminates the chattering phenomenon effectively and decouples well, which has a good robustness and control tracking performance in the disturbance and parameter perturbation.

This paper proposes a model reference adaptive dynamic sliding mode control (MRASMC) scheme with an adaptive uncertainty and disturbance estimator (AUDE), the scheme is then applied to two-dimensional overhead cranes control with uncertainties, to ensure the payload can be transported to the desired position rapidly while its swing angle can be eliminated simultaneously. Firstly, a desired reference model for improving transient performance is designed. More specifically, a novel chattering-free reaching law along with adaptive integral sliding mode surface is designed to achieve fast convergence of system state variable errors, thereby improving system transient performance. In addition, the designed novel moving sliding mode surface can adjust its slope in real time according to the state variable errors. Moreover, to suppress the uncertainties occurring in overhead cranes system, such as matched disturbances, unmatched disturbances. An adaptive uncertainty and disturbance estimator (AUDE) technique is employed to estimate these disturbances, then the estimated disturbances are taken as feedforward control term to overcome the chattering phenomenon. The stability and convergence of the control system is strictly analyzed using Lyapunov theory. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

State space model identification using model reference adaptive approach: software and hardware-in-the-loop simulation

This paper presents a comprehensive tutorial on the identification process for a class of continuously dynamic systems expressed in state-space form using the model reference adaptive approach. The proposed algorithm does not require prior knowledge of the systems but needs all state variables to adapt the estimated parameters. Through simulations using m-script code, software-in-the-loop (SIL), and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulations, the effectiveness of the proposed method in identifying the system model of a DC motor is evaluated. Simulation results demonstrate consistency across various platforms. Steady-state estimated models can be achieved using the proposed estimation algorithm with adaptation gains of diag([100100]) after 5 s. Furthermore, this paper demonstrates the implementation of the proposed method on both SIL and HIL platforms, using Python and MicroPython programming languages, respectively. This approach leverages the Numpy library for efficient matrix computations. It is evident that the proposed estimation algorithm is readily applicable in real-world scenarios.

In view of the disadvantages of traditional direct torque controlled permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) drive, this paper designs a novel model reference adaptive system(MRAS) based on reduced order observer for speed identification. And the novel model reference adaptive system is used to estimate the rotor speed instead of speed sensor. The voltage model is the reference model, and the adjustable model is established with the rotor speed as the adjustable parameter. The simulation results show that the system with model reference adaptive system based on reduced order observer does not only have better dynamic and static performance, but also have stronger robustness and smaller steady-state error.

To address issues such as load fluctuations, multimodality, and parameter tuning in the liquid level control of flexible packaging filling, this paper proposes a model reference adaptive control (MRAC) scheme based on an event-triggered mechanism. Initially, adjustments are made to the cascade liquid level control scheme of the flexible packaging filling machine, and a mathematical model of the controlled system is established. To enhance the optimization speed and accuracy of the algorithm, a model reference adaptive controller is designed to achieve online parameter self-tuning. Additionally, event-triggered technology with fixed thresholds is introduced, which not only improves the operational efficiency and product quality of the production line but also effectively saves channel resources, meeting the control requirements for flexible packaging water production. Finally, the stability of the closed-loop system is proven using Lyapunov's method.

In order to overcome the shortcomings of traditional mechanical position sensors applied to surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors, such as the difficulty of maintenance, the decrease of the system reliability and the high price, a simplified sensorless control method improved from the traditional model reference adaptive system is proposed in this paper. Only the q-axis current state equation is used as the reference model to estimate the rotor position and the motor speed. And it is proved that the nonlinear system is globally asymptotically stable according to the Popov hyperstability theory. Simulation and experimental verification are carried out. The results show that the sensorless method can accurately estimate the rotor position and speed, make the system have good dynamic and static performance.

TDE-based model reference adaptive Second Order Sliding Mode Control for Overhead Crane

This paper proposes a model reference adaptive sliding mode control (MRASMC) scheme that uses time delay estimation (TDE) technique and adaptive modified super-twisting algorithm (AMSTA), then applies the scheme to overhead crane with uncertainties to ensure the payload can be transported to the desired position rapidly while simultaneously eliminating swing. Firstly, a desired reference model for improving transient performance was designed. More specifically, a new chattering-free reaching law is designed to achieve fast convergence of system state errors and improve system transient performance. To enhance the control performance, then, a time-delay estimation is employed to approximate the uncertainties and control law is designed based on modified adaptive super-twisting algorithm, which can reduce the chattering phenomenon and achieve finite-time convergence. The stability and convergence of the controlled system is analyzed using Lyapunov theory. Moreover, Simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller.
