Engineering simulations, such as simulations in aerospace industry, have a complicated nature. In order to cope with those complications and construct simulations by using loosely-coupled components, one of the approaches is the agent-based modeling and simulation approach which ensures the separation of concerns. Engineering simulations are extensively being used by researchers coming from various disciplines. These researchers are used to use model-driven tools and languages. Unfortunately, several problems may arise when only model-driven tools and languages are applied, including performance, scalability and productization issues. These problems can be mitigated by using well designed frameworks that are implemented with conventional programming languages. In this paper, a framework which builds the simulation architecture with the help of a model-based language and transforms that into code is proposed. Our study ensures code generation of an enterprise-level simulation implementation from a software architecture which can be designed using SysML.

Automated generation of test oracles using a model-driven approach

Context: Software development time has been reduced with new development tools and paradigms, testing must accompany these changes. In order to release software products in a timely manner as well as to minimise the impact of possible errors introduced during maintenance interventions, testing automation has become a central goal. Whilst research has produced significant results in test case generation and tools for test case (re)-execution, one of the most important open problems in testing is the automation of oracle generation. The oracle decides whether the program under test has or has not behaved correctly and then issues a pass/fail verdict. In most cases, writing the oracle is a time-consuming activity that, moreover, is manual in most cases. Objective: This article automates two important steps in the test oracle: obtention of expected output and its comparison with the actual output, using a model-driven approach. Method: The oracle automation problem is resolved using a model-driven framework, based on OMG standards: UML is used as metamodel and QVT and MOF2text as transformation languages. The automated testing framework takes the models that describe the system as input, using UML notation and derives from them the test model and then the test code, following a model-driven approach. Test oracle procedures are obtained from a UML state machine. Results: A complete executable test case at functional test level is obtained, composed of a test procedure with parametrized input test data and expected result automation. Conclusion: The oracle automation is obtained using a model-driven approach, test cases are obtained automatically from UML models. The model-driven testing framework was applied to an industrial application and has been useful to testing automation for the main functionalities in the system. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. Internet of Things (IoT) is being applied to areas as smart-cities, home environment, agriculture, industry, etc. Developing, deploying and testing IoT projects require high investments on devices, fog nodes, cloud nodes, analytic nodes, hardware and software. New projects require high investments on devices, fog nodes, cloud nodes, analytic nodes, hardware and software before each system can be developed. In addition, the systems should be developed to test them, which implies time, effort and development costs. However, in order to decrease the cost associated to develop and test the system the IoT system can be simulated. Thus, simulating environments help to model the system, reasoning about it, and take advantage of the knowledge obtained to optimize it. Designing IoT simulation environments has been tackled focusing on low level aspects such as networks, motes and so on more than focusing on the high level concepts related to IoT environments. Additionally, the simulation users require high IoT knowledge and usually programming capabilities in order to implement the IoT environment simulation. The concepts to manage in an IoT simulation includes the common layers of an IoT environment including Edge, Fog and Cloud computing and heterogeneous technology. model-driven development is an emerging software engineering area which aims to develop the software systems from domain models which capture at high level the domain concepts and relationships, generating from them the software artefacts by using code-generators. In this paper, a model-driven development approach has been developed to define, generate code and deploy IoT systems simulation. This approach makes it possible to design complex IoT simulation environments and deploy them without writing code. To do this, a domain metamodel, a graphical concrete syntax and a model to text transformation have been developed. This paper presents Decision-making in Collaborative Networks and enlarges the differences between strategic-tactical and operational decisions. The common way of representing decisions into classical BPMN diagrams is shown, with its drawbacks. The new OMG's standard DMN (Decision model and Notation) is introduced, with its context and its main elements. Then, the association between BPMN and DMN is detailed and the advantage of their separation is illustrated into examples. At last, the related experiments (already done and future works) are demonstrated: a graphical editor for modeling and an automatic code generator from a model-To-text transformation.

Architectures of all application software that are developed by Sea Defense Systems Software Team in ASELSAN are created based on a predefined reference software architecture. In order to facilitate the process of transition from the software architectural design, which is created in conformance with the reference software architecture, to implementation a model driven software development approach is put forth. In this approach, based on a metamodel for the predefined reference software architecture, a domain specific language is defined. In the last stage, models that are created by using the domain specific language are automatically transformed to source code.

Systems based on the Internet of Things (IoT) are continuously growing in many areas such as smart cities, home environments, buildings, agriculture, industry, etc. Device mobility is one of the key aspects of these IoT systems, but managing it could be a challenge. Mobility exposes the IoT environment or Industrial IoT (IIoT) to situations such as packet loss, increased delay or jitter, dynamism in the network topology, new security threats, etc. In addition, there is no standard for mobility management for the most commonly used IoT protocols, such as MQTT or CoAP. Consequently, managing IoT mobility is a hard, error-prone and tedious task. However, increasing the abstraction level from which the IoT systems are designed helps to tackle the underlying technology complexity. In this regard, model-driven development approaches can help to both reduce the IoT application time to market and tackle the technological complexity to develop IoT applications. In this paper, a Domain-Specific Language based on SimulateIoT is proposed for the design, code generation and simulation of IoT systems with mobility management for the MQTT protocol. The IoT systems generated integrate the sensors, actuators, fog nodes, cloud nodes and the architecture that supports mobility, which are deployed as microservices on Docker containers and composed suitability. Finally, two case studies focused on animal tracking and a Personal mobility device (PMD) based on bicycles IoT systems are presented to show the IoT solutions deployed. (c) 2023 Elsevier B.V. model Driven Development Applied to Complex Event Processing for Near Real-Time Open Data

Nowadays, data are being produced like never before because the use of the Internet of Things, social networks, and communication in general are increasing exponentially. Many of these data, especially those from public administrations, are freely offered using the open data concept where data are published to improve their reutilisation and transparency. Initially, the data involved information that is not updated continuously such as budgets, tourist information, office information, pharmacy information, etc. This kind of information does not change during large periods of time, such as days, weeks or months. However, when open data are produced near to real-time such as air quality sensors or people counters, suitable methodologies and tools are lacking to identify, consume, and analyse them. This work presents a methodology to tackle the analysis of open data sources using model-Driven Development (MDD) and Complex Event Processing (CEP), which help users to raise the abstraction level utilised to manage and analyse open data sources. That means that users can manage heterogeneous and complex technology by using domain concepts defined by a model that could be used to generate specific code. Thus, this methodology is supported by a domain-specific language (DSL) called OpenData2CEP, which includes a metamodel, a graphical concrete syntax, and a model-to-text transformation to specific platforms, such as complex event processing engines. Finally, the methodology and the DSL have been applied to two near real-time contexts: the analysis of air quality for citizens' proposals and the analysis of earthquake data.
