Most innovative applications having robotic capabilities like self-driving cars are de- veloped from scratch with little reuse of design or code artifacts from previous similar projects. As a result, work at times is duplicated adding time and economic costs. To address this, standardization, benchmarking, and formalization activities in robotics are being undertaken by many technical working groups and independent agencies such as, IEEE, ISO, and OMG. Absence of integrated tools is the real barrier that exists between early adopters of such e? orts and early majority of research and in- dustrial community. In addition, Robotic systems are becoming more safety critical systems as they are deployed in unstructured human-centered environments. These software intensive systems are composed of distributed, heterogeneous software com- ponents interacting in a highly dynamic, uncertain environment. However, no signi?- cant systematic software development process is followed in robotics research. This is a real barrier for system level performance analysis and reasoning, which are in turn required for scalable benchmarking methods and reusing existing software. The process of developing robotic software frameworks and tools for designing robotic architectures is expensive both in terms of time and e? ort, and absence of systematic approach may result in ad hoc designs that are not? exible and reusable. Therefore, within the context of architecture design, component development, and their support tools, a coherent practice is required for developing architectural frame- works. Making architecture meta-framework a point of conformance opens new possi- bilities for interoperability and knowledge sharing in the architecture and framework communities. We tried to make a step in this direction by proposing a common model and by providing a systematic methodological approach that helps in specifying di? er- ent aspects of software architecture development and their interplay in a

Strategic Domain-driven Design (DDD) has become an established practice for system decomposition and service identification in recent years. The trend towards microservices increased the popularity of DDD patterns such as Subdomain, Bounded Context, Aggregate and Context Map. In our previous work, we presented a Domain-Specific Language (DSL) providing a clear and concise interpretation of the DDD patterns and their combinations. As a machine-readable description of DDD, the DSL establishes a foundation for systematic service decomposition and DDD-based architecture descriptions that can be refactored and refined by model transformations. The DSL and supporting tools are implemented in the open source project Context Mapper. In this extended version of our previous paper we enhance the DSL grammar to allow domain-driven designers to prototype applications rapidly: they can specify user stories and/or use cases in the DSL, and model transformations can then derive Subdomains and Bounded Contexts automatically. The Context Mapper tool chain supports the continuous, iterative specification and evolution of Context Maps and other service design artifacts. Our validation activities included prototyping, action research, and case studies. This paper illustrates such a transformation chain on the basis of one of our case studies.

Modern Single-Page Applications (SPA) use data from multiple Web services to support essential process in the enterprises. By using data from several Web services, the SPA changed their architecture from a one-to-one communication between client and server to an application using information from multiple servers using RESTfuls APIs in a microservice architecture. In this paper, we present a model-driven approach for the consumption of RESTful Web services in SPA. We introduce a Query Service meta-model and provide a tool to semi-automatically generate an SPA based on our reference architecture. The proposed approach was evaluated by using the tool for the development of an example application in the context of a research project with large German corporation in the domain of software architecture. The main limitation of the tool is the lack of support for the round-trip engineering functionality. However, the created Web service handles the access to APIs and reduces the complexity of the SPA due to the shift of responsibility away from the client.

Service-oriented architectures and microservices have gained much attention in recent years;companies adopt these concepts and supporting technologies in order to increase agility, scalability, and maintainability of their systems. Decomposing an application into multiple independently deployable, appropriately sized services and then integrating them is challenging. Domain-driven Design (DDD) is a popular approach to identify (micro-)services by modeling so-called Bounded Contexts and Context Maps. In our previous work, we proposed a Domain-specific Language (DSL) that leverages the DDD patterns to support service modeling and decomposition. The DSL is implemented in Context Mapper, a tool that allows software architects and system integrators to create domain-driven designs that are both human- and machine-readable. However, we have not covered the tool architecture, the iterative and incremental refinement of such maps, and the transition from DDD pattern-based models to (micro-)service-oriented architectures yet. In this paper, we introduce the architectural concepts of Context Mapper and seven model refactorings supporting decomposition criteria that we distilled from the literature and own industry experience;they are grouped and serve as part of a service design elaboration method. We also introduce a novel service contract generation approach that leverages a new, technology-independent Microservice Domain-Specific Language (MDSL). These research contributions are implemented in Context Mapper and being validated using empirical methods.

model-driven engineering (MDE) has emerged as a methodology, grounded in theory and tooling, to design and develop software systems with models at their core. MDE makes use of modelling languages, ranging from general-purpose like the standard UML, to dedicated modelling languages like Domain-Specific modelling Languages. Those are supported by modelling editors, with languages that typically offer graphical and textual notations as concrete syntax. However, being concentrated on vision, these tools ignore other senses and communication channels like audition (voice and sound) that could be used in industrial settings, for accessibility purposes, or simply as complementary to the visual approaches. We are building a modelling workbench platform that, similarly to modelling workbenches dealing with diagrammatic languages, allows a software language engineer to model a domain-specific language and generate a voice/audio editor where the domain end-users can operate (Create, Read, Update and Delete), and navigate diagrams through speech recognition and voice synthesis tools. One of the problems of editors that use voice is the fixed interaction paradigms that contribute to poor user experience. In this paper, we propose an interaction mechanism that can recognise vocal and non-vocal sounds as well as gestures adding two senses in the definition of Domain-Specific Languages' concrete syntax definition, not usually explored in the model-driven tools. we have built a prototype and we carried out a pilot empirical study, with preliminary positive results, to access the presented prototype in terms of usability, productivity and learning curve.

In model-driven software engineering, high-level models of a software system are eventually transformed into executable code. model transformations constitute a key technology for model-driven software engineering. QVT Relations (QVT-R) is a language for the declarative specification of model transformations which was defined in an OMG (Object Management Group) standard. In addition to unidirectional transformations, QVT-R supports bidirectional transformations: Rather than writing two unidirectional transformations separately, the user may provide a single relational specification which may be executed in both directions. In this way, the specification of a bidirectional transformation may be simplified considerably - which is crucial e.g. for round-trip engineering. This paper investigates a case study for evaluating QVT-R's capabilities for specifying bidirectional transformations. Even in this rather simple case study, development of a bidirectional transformation turns out to be more complex than expected. Motivated by the case study, we propose extensions to QVT-R which facilitate the specification of bidirectional transformations considerably.

The demand of automating mundane user tasks in business processes has been accelerated recently. There's a growing interest in making Robotic Process Automation more intelligent by embedding richer explicit knowledge in robotic reasoning and User Experience procedural knowledge can become a key enabler for this. The paper reports on a Design Science Research project introducing Knowledge Graphs to connect User Experience processes with contextual resources from enterprise repositories in order to feed procedural bots. This paper addresses a need to manage procedural knowledge pertaining to the User Experience that must be mimicked in RPA projects. It does this by capturing and exploiting semantic links of front-end usage processes across a semantic repository of such processes. This is deployed as a demonstrator that introduces an intermediary navigation layer over an RDF graph persisted from an RPA-focused UX diagrammatic language that operates very close to the business domain. The demonstrator highlights the benefits of a semantic graph view on User Experience and the associated context. It simulates the robotic process of realizing a task where UI elements, external files and programs need to be called during process execution therefore they must be traceable from User Experience steps. Linking the visual appearance of GUI elements and file/data resources as knowledge for procedural execution turns this into a domain-specific process modeling and management approach.

software engineering projects are faced with abstraction, which is achieved by software models, historical evolution, which is addressed by revision control, and variability, which is managed with the help of software product line engineering. Addressing these phenomena by separate tools ignores obvious overlaps and therefore fails at exploiting synergies between revision and variation control for models. Information Extraction (IE) processes are often business-critical, but very hard to automate due to a heterogeneous data basis. Specific document characteristics, also called features, influence the optimal way of processing. Architecture for Automated Generation of Distributed Information Extraction Pipelines (ARTIFACT) supports businesses in successively automating their IE processes by finding optimal IE pipelines. However, ARTIFACT treats each document the same way, and does not enable document-specific processing. Single solution strategies can perform extraordinarily well for documents with particular traits. While manual approvals are superfluous for these documents, ARTIFACT does not provide the opportunity for Fully Automatic Processing (FAP). Therefore, we introduce an enhanced pattern that integrates an extensible and domain-independent concept of feature detection based on microservices. Due to this, we create two fundamental benefits. First, the document-specific processing increases the quality of automated generated IE pipelines. Second, the system enables FAP to eliminate superfluous approval efforts.
