model-Based systems engineering (MBSE) aims to provide a systems engineering methodology that leverages modeling methods to support design, analysis, verification, and validation of systems. As such, methodologies for MBSE have to be able to integrate heterogeneous engineering models from a variety of domains, including mechanical engineering, product design, legislation, and many more. Most research in this area usually only focuses on general system descriptions of a step in the system development process, without providing any interdisciplinary or interprocess connections. Thus, the models created by the domain experts are often unconnected and not suited for automated model transformations. We present a method to integrate abstract system descriptions in the systems modeling Language (SysML) with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) models, which are not only the primary model for geometrical hardware descriptions but also the starting point of most process chains in the context of virtual product development. The transformations of our method are realized in a plug-in for the MagicDraw modeling environment and support to generate parameters of a parameter and constraint CAD modeling approach from a SysML model. This automates the integration of abstract system descriptions with design models to foster a coherent virtual product development.

Control Code Generation using model engineering for an Electric Train

This paper addresses first experiments in the usage of model engineering to generate control/command code from a high-level description of the system featuring the notions of architecture and configuration. This principle has been applied generate IEC-61131-3 control/command code for an industrial PLC to control the circuit and the engines of an electric train. It has been implemented using the AMMA platform, more precisely the ATL transformation language.

We propose a new logic of valued Booleans for writing properties which are not just true or false but compute how severely they are falsified. The logic is reminiscent of STL or MTL but gives the tester control over what severity means in the particular problem domain. We use this logic to simplify failing test inputs in the context of random testing of cyber-physical systems and show that it improves the quality of counterexamples found. The logic of valued Booleans might also be used as an alternative to the standard robust semantics of STL formulas in optimization-based approaches to falsification. In industrial production, it is of great importance to have high availability in its production equipment. Well-functioning maintenance is a significant factor for a high level of availability. This can be achieved by minimizing the number of reactive maintenance stops and optimizing scheduled maintenance. New methods for predictive maintenance provide a good opportunity for this, but most technologies that are available today are designed for individual sub-systems and they are rarely designed for a complex, interconnected machine. In the process industry, raw materials are processed into a finished product in a continuous flow through several subsystems and if one subsystem stops, the entire process flow stops. For these processes, it is more important to optimize the maintenance efforts for subsystems so maintenance can take place synchronized. This paper describes a method of supervised control that includes maintenance aspects;health parameters indicating deterioration are included in a MIMO controller. The method is verified in a simulation of a rolling mill with three rollers. The results show that it is possible to optimize the whole complex process including several subprocesses by using a health parameter as a control parameter and broadening the controllability of the system by dividing the workload in a way that all the subsystems reach the desired degradation level for maintenance in a desired optimum time. Nowadays, the influence of the Industry 4.0 concept has increased the use of technologies that allow systems to be connected and make decisions in a more efficient way to increase productivity and reduce expenses. Among Industry 4.0 portfolio, simulation allows the creation of scenarios to observe, analyze and forecast data without investing in physical equipment. Manufacturing flexibility demands continues changes that must be mirrored in simulation models forcing companies to invest resources in remodelling previous works;this is expensive and time-consuming. To address the continued development of manual simulations, a model is proposed to create fast, adaptable and instantiable semi-automated simulations. In this paper, there is presented the structure found while developing simulation models and, a proprietary solution to address shorter simulation cycles derived from the interaction within the industry. There are also achieved successful results for delving in the case study in the automotive sector. The main result when applying the model is pointed out in the time saved to semi-automate functional and reusable simulation models. Copyright (C) 2021 The Authors.

Due to technological advancements and the ever- increasing demand for sustainable modes of transport, research on autonomous driving, shared mobility, and micro-mobility has gained interest, particularly in urban mobility. To facilitate such transport modes, systems like bike-sharing, car-sharing, and shared autonomous cars are implemented. However, the systems mentioned above have traffic congestion, a lack of parking space availability, and on-demand service concerns. To address the aforementioned challenges, we intend to integrate an on-demand shared-use, self-driving cargo-bikes service (OSABS) as a new mode of transportation into the urban mobility ecosystem. The selection of energy supply technology for self-driving cargo bikes is essential for making the OSABS system more environment-friendly and sustainable. Therefore, this paper aims to identify a suitable energy supply technology for our self-driving cargo bikes. Following that, we compare each technology using key performance indicators (KPIs), such as service level, implementation cost, energy consumption cost, charging station utilization, and profit analysis. Furthermore, we use the agent-based simulation model to experiment with the identified energy supply technologies, such as battery-powered and hydrogen fuel cell-powered autonomous cargo bikes. The industrial environment is slowly transforming to a networked system of systems nature with industry 4.0. Automation systems are getting more production friendly by being more reconfigurable and adaptable. The plant engineering process is also getting improved by offering modular architecture, model-based engineering, etc. This transformation necessitates novel methodologies in maintenance practices as well. With the emergence of predictive maintenance techniques, sometimes it is possible to predict a breakdown and thus conveniently schedule the corrective maintenance. But this is not always the case, the incidence of unscheduled corrective maintenance is prevalent in an industrial environment. And the methodologies for corrective maintenance have to be reshaped fitting to the new plant environment. This paper introduces a new modular corrective maintenance methodology, using the digital twin of an automation module. Fault ascription support for a human technician, performing corrective maintenance action of an automation module is provided by its digital twin and associated visual interface. The complexity in automotive systems engineering is increasing over the last decade. In particular, new comfort functions as well as functions towards autonomous driving are reasons for this complexity. A new dimension is introduced by the usage of multi-core processors since there is a shift from sequential to parallel thinking in the different development phases. Therefore, in this paper we present an approach for supporting the development process of distributed systems aligned with the EAST-ADL approach, by using partitioning. We present an extension to EAST-ADL for partitioning and show ways how an automatic partitioning on different levels of abstraction can be achieved. These partitions can support system designers during the design process of functional architectures, by giving a first insight how well the functional components can be distributed on hardware in later stages of the development process.
